We've used Ravinia for years but we're going to try someone else next time. They are generally good, though on complicated issues we've had varying service depending on who we got. But their pricing is ridiculous. Just to clear out a sink drain cost us over $300 bucks. They try to get you to join their ""club"" but that doesn't include everything, so what's the point? How hard can clearing out a sink drain be? Their hourly charge exceeds that of a good lawyer.
I have used Ravinia Plumbing at home and at my office for many years. While their pricing is a bit high, you get what you pay for. Their technicians and office staff are very knowledgeable, polite, and friendly. They have always arrived as scheduled and even call me when they are on the way so I don't have to wait around for them.
AWFUL OWNER!! Although I was warned about Ravinia Plumbing when I moved to the Chicago area three years ago, I was in a bind and needed a plumber quickly. Ravinia was available and I used them - signed up for a contract and have had them to my house about 2-3 times/year since. I had always felt that the technicians were professional but that the prices were way too high.
Six months ago Ravinia came to fix my humidifiers that were leaking water around the furnaces. I was told that the drain tubes needed to be replaced. I agreed to it and they were fixed. Two days later my entire basement was completely flooded with about 4 inches of water. Over 24 hours later (due to freezing temperatures and a busy schedule for Ravinia) a technician was able to come to the house. He said that the previous technician knocked debris into the drainage pipe of the humidifier, which caused it to back up and flood my basement. The technician even said ""Boy...I'm glad it wasn't me that made the mistake!"" I realize mistakes happen and I just wanted Ravinia to take care of the issue. My kids toys were sitting in this water (many of them ruined) not to mention boxes (containing electrical items) were soaked through as well. The technician told me Ravinia would send Rainbow (a carpet cleaning/drying service) to lift my carpets, dry the basement and replace the carpets. I called the manager of Ravinia to ensure that I would not be paying for Rainbow's service. I did not receive a call-back. A day later I called again, saying I would really like to speak with someone about this. Again, no call back. The third time I left a message for the owner of the company (who always seemed to be ""in meetings"" when I'd call) that it would be in his best interest to use some business ethic and call his customer back. When he finally called, he said he wasn't certain that Ravinia caused the problem that caused the back-up. I told him his technician was certain about it and that it was too much of a coincidence that two days prior to the problem, they ""fixed"" my humidifier. After a long discussion, he agreed to pay for Rainbow's services but refused to acknowledge that I was owed anything for the toys and electrical items. I was also concerned about mold in the walls. He said our conversation was over and that he is not responsible for a mold check in 6 months. I hadn't needed a plumber since that incident but yesterday I called Ravinia about my kitchen sink being clogged and I was told that there is a ""Do Not Service"" note on my account! Ravinia refuses to service my house!! I will gladly switch to another plumbing service after my experience with the owner. DO NOT USE THEM!! I was told they are crooks - and they are!!
Always reliable; love that they call me 1/2 hour before they arrive.
Repair costs have been reasonable and without hassle. Service techs are knowledgeable, keep it clean and not pushy.
The people answering the phone are polite and helpful.
I started with Mahoney Plumbing and believe that Ravinia and Mahoney are now the same company.
I called Ravinia Plumbing for a very basic repair on my HVAC systems. They sent a tech out the same day who diagnosed the problem but did not have the necessary parts to perform the repair in his truck. He quoted me a total price of $694 for parts and labor and said he would order the parts for me. Seven days later the parts (which are readily available at any home improvement store) were still not in, so I called another well-known local HVAC contractor. They came out, had all the necessary parts in their truck, performed the repairs in about an hour, and charged me a total of $235 for parts and labor. Same day repair for $235 v. Ravinia's nine days for $694. Hmmm, who should I call next time???
I called on Friday, 12 July 2013 @ 3:30 pm that my tenants could not get the hot water heater re-lit. Ravinia said it would cost $140 for a service charge to look to see if the pilot light could be re-lit. I had to call 4 times for them to come out and they did not arrive until 9:30 pm. They said they would call if there was an additional charge. They said they would mail me a bill. Neither happened. I reviewed my credit card statement to see that Mahoney Plumbing charged me $307.78. My tenant said the technician was there for less than 5 minutes. I called them to rectify the error. They said they would call me back. My call was never returned. I would not use there service ever again. I am active duty Navy and they are taking advantage of me being in another state. Very poor custom service.
Julie F.I'm not one to hand out bad reviews. I generally like to review businesses that provide exceptional service and quality but my experience with Ravinia still rubs me the wrong way. If I had to give them a rating on their technicians alone I would give 4 stars. If I had to rate them on pricing alone I would rate 0 stars (more to come on that)....Ravinia was initially recommended to us by a neighbor and I had them come out on several occasions to fix plumbing and for routine A/C & heating maintenance. They do have a club price but you never end up paying just the club price. There are always add ons, etc. and I do not find their pricing system competitive whatsoever. Their technicians have always been friendly and seemed to get the job done.
We did have someone come out to quote us on a new A/C for the upstairs and the quote was so laughable that I just couldn't even respond. It was offensive that someone would put together a proposal that was so outrageously priced. I honestly felt like this person came into my home and saw ""sucker"" written all over my face. I've since found a another professional service that is not trying to price gouge me. If you have Ravinia come out for a quote make sure you shop around.
RP did some great plumbing work for us in our shower 2 months ago. Recently they gave us an estimate for new garbage disposal for $750.00! Way too high! B.B.
As of March 2013, Ravinia Plumbing & Heating has a new pricing policy. ASK first. I was prepared to pay by the hour, and their new 'by the service' method would have cost twice as much. I chose to pay the $59.00 service call charge and have nothing done. Staff is always courteous and professional. The plumber was in my house for at least 25 minutes looking at the work and explaining the 'club' program and the pricing. I was quoted $550.00 to rod out my kitchen sink line (as a preventativie measure) and to change a cartridge in my bathroom shower.
Update: Pasquesi Plumbing, charges by the hour, and the job cost $180.00. Pasquesi plumber, Joe, was in and out in less than an hour and was very courteous. He finished the cartridge change and explained that he took a few minutes extra to clean the drain as he saw the water was running down too slowly. This was done in less time than Ravinia plumber took to describe their 'club' plan.
i had them do a check up three weeks ago on my furnace.before the cold air hit..I tried to turn my heaters on today and neither of them work..i called and they want to charge me overtime because its sunday...too big of a coincidence not to be their fault and they have the nerve to try and charge me!!
