Company Overview

We at Rapid Service offer comprehensive plumbing, electrical, and heating solutions for installation and repair needs. Located in Columbia, CT, our offerings include installing and fixing water heaters, well pumps, toilets, sump pumps, water filtration systems, faucets, clogged drains, generators, surge protection, electrical upgrades, and bathroom ventilation. We are equipped to handle kitchen and bathroom renovations.

The journey began in 1987 when Andy Hul founded his venture, Riverdale Plumbing & Heating following his time as a plumber with a firm in Avon, CT.

The fledgling business grew through word of mouth and customer referrals. With no budget for advertising, Andy’s growing reputation for high-quality work at competitive prices fueled the growth.

These formative years were filled with a mix of excitement for Andy—his business was growing, he had a young wife, and an old house that occupied his free time. The requirement for electrical work in his home brought Andy to his future partner, electrician Jay Lassow.

In 1993, Andy Hul and Jay Lassow officially launched Rapid Service, which includes plumbing, heating, electrical, carpentry, and remodeling services.

As time passed, Rapid Service expanded by hiring skilled professionals and investing in new tools to improve the services we offer our clients.

Even after the loss of partner Jay Lassow, Rapid Service has flourished under the guidance of Andy Hul.

Gave this company one star as I couldn't go any lower!! Our septic pump failed around January 2nd and our ordeal was not over until April 9th. The owner of this company (as evidenced by other reviews and our experience), is apparently not fond of dealing with anyone elderly. Andy was rude, dismissive and angry a good deal of the time. We were actually screamed at twice . In addition, he stormed out of our home a time or two. He overcharged us by thousands of dollars only to back down (What plumber makes $1,000/hour/??), was condescending when we asked about the pump that was put in......When we questioned whether the pump was new or refurbished, he would say, 'WHO CARES?"" Welll, WE care as we are not paying the kind of money we paid for something USED!!! According to Ct. Public Act 22-104, Section 37, all work on a private residence must be provided with a description of the service, labor and material costs of service and beginning and ending dates. We were provided with none of that. When the job was FINALLY finished we were not even provided paperwork regarding the warranty for the pump. We had to insist and THEN, Andy had to call out to his helper in the truck to get it. Our conclusion, at this point, is that we are not even sure if this is the proper warranty paperwork. Never, in all of our years of dealing with tradesmen have we been treated with such disrespect. Run, do not walk away from this company.

Well pump and pressure tank went down on Sat 12/17/22 called and said we will be ok till Mon. They said they will come on mon. by 4:00 have not received any call from them and had to call them again. They arrived about 5:00pm 15mins later they gave me an estimate of over $10,000 for the work. then wanted a 50% deposit after i said it was too much, they reduced it in half. They called on Tues to start a 2-day job on wed/Thurs. Called on Weds to change start time to Thurs /Friday. I then cancelled the work called another company that came in 30mins, almost $5,000 less and took only 3 1/2 hrs. to finish the job. I now called 3 times to Rapid service out of Columbia CT. They still have not returned the deposit back into my account. Don't make this mistake with them. Look at another company. UPDATE All is correct with review except Deposit was returned by Rapid Service back into my account.

Do not hire them for well service! Watch out for their ""diagnostic charges"" -- given that it took them 20 minutes to determine why my pump was not running and charged $225, they are effectively billing at $675 per hour to find a failed controller and shorted pump. Their estimate for replacing the well pump and tank (over $8000) was laughably inflated. I know the cost of the parts and the size of the parts. The tech insisted that the entire system would need to be replumbed to accommodate the brand they wanted to use, even though other brands would have fit easily. The experience felt like a shakedown from scam artists. You can do much better by hiring authentic pump experts.

Buyer beware.. Look elsewhere for service. Rapid service incorrectly installed a water heater for me only 4 years ago that already failed. I paid 2x what I should have then. Even though the water heater is warranteed by the manufacturer, they will not stand by their work when questioned about labor price and opportunity to talk with the service manager. I'm not one to write reviews, but owe it to my neighbors to help you make a better choice than I did.

It was a fairly rapid arrival - but it ended up being $424.00 to change a breaker that costs $90. and he was supposed to follow up on parts for an exhaust fan and I never heard back, I called office 2 times and nothing. Granted he said he has bronchitis that day but I found him incredibly unfriendly and condescending.

Waited for call back, when called rude and sarcastic. Making jokes about my service panel without even being there. When I asked if he wanted to do the job or not he hung up on me. Will never call them again.

They called and left a message requesting me to clarify my review. There really is nothing to clarify: everything is explained in the review. They are simply way too expensive (in my case, even to an unethical extent), though excellent technicians. If you've got money to burn, they're your people.

I had seen a Rapid Service truck in my neighborhood so thought I would give them a call to fix an outdoor water spigot that was leaking into my basement. They charged a $49 estimate fee and did arrive within a couple of days on time. The technician examined the spigot, telling me just the spigot needed to be replace (the pipe had not ruptured). The quote to replace the spigot was $650!! For a moment, I could not even respond; but once I came to my senses, I paid the $49 and sent him on his way. PRICE GOUGING AT IT'S WORST!! Beware of Rapid Service! Not sure if it was because I am a female or if this is their standard pricing -- either way, it is SHAMEFUL!
