Recommended Customer Reviews
We were in need of a water heater. We have a geothermal system in this house we purchased in 2017. It takes two water heaters. The oldest tank started having white crust marks around it and contacted Rabe Hardware, Balirstown. They gave us two quotes over the phone for two sizes of tanks. One for $800 and one for $1100. We chose the $1100 one and scheduled for it to be installed the next week. The day they put it in we offered to pay them. They told us we only needed to pay a $110 new customer fee and they would bill us for the rest. Over a week later we were totally surprised when we received our bill and the water tank itself was over $2000. Plus labor and parts which we expected but we called Rabe Hardware immediately about the price of the water heater. The girl who answered the phone admitted that she had made a mistake on the quotes and will see what she could do and call us back. Never received a call. We had to call her back. When we did she said there wasn't anything she could do and that we would have to pay the bill. We asked to talk to a manager and she refused. We called back again and supposedly got a different woman this time and told us we couldn't talk to a manager until we had talked to the first woman. When we told her we already did and just wanted to talk to a manager she took our info and hung up. We finally did get to talk to a manager (at least we think it was) but he told us that we were never given quotes for the water heaters and that we had to pay the full amount. So either the person giving us quotes messed up and lied to cover her ass or Rabe Hardware, out of Blairstown is involved in questionable billing practices. Either way, we will NEVER use them again and will never give them a positive review. In all honestly, even after they sprayed water all over our basement we would have given them a decent review until we received that bogus bill! Please, just make sure you always check your billing statements from this company!!
Robert P.So as fall approaches, we turn on the furnace and nothing. Called Rabe (pronounced Robbie), who we've had out to the house before for small fixes. Tech comes out.. heat exchanger and burners are shot... furnace is 19 years old. Says the office will call with repair estimate... that was $1,700 to $2,100... says they'll send a sales guy out to look over the furnace. Jonny comes out, does lots of looking, measuring and talking (I didn't understand all of it). Next day, three estimates arrive that range from $6K to $17K (including AC replacement). Ask for a fourth quote -- just a simple furnace.. that was $5K. We decide to go with that. Jonny calls an offers a slightly used, better furnace for the same price... we go with that (duh). Brad and team have it installed in a single day. Here's the facts, in all my dealings with the folks at Rabe, the tech, Jonny, secretaries, Brad, etc... whether email, phone, text or in person... these folks are top notch professionals. I live a very small town and word gets around... never checked for another place ""for a better price"" as I simply trust these guys -- they even submit all the applicable rebates! Granted, no one expects to drop thousands on a new furnace but I am very pleased. The install was spot on... I wasn't even home.. not one spare screw or piece of junk around and the old unit was hauled off. If you are looking for an honest and fair company who will treat you right from start to finish, call Rabe!
