I contacted R&S Plumbing and Heating to service my boiler this winter (2020). During the COVID crisis, they said they were about six weeks out. I wasn't experiencing any problems with the boiler, just needed an annual service so I was willing to wait. The appointment was scheduled at 11 am, which they were very prompt on. They even called me to see if they could come early, but I missed the call. Once the tech arrived, he was familiar with the system we had and said he would be done in about an hour. He was able to clean it and fix a few leaks that we had. The price point was right on where he said he was going to be. Just about $150. Spending $150 is well worth keeping my boiler running at full efficiency and not having to worry about it breaking down in the cold Alaskan winters. Thank you R&S for for professionalism and courtesy.

I have recently relocated to Alaska for my job. I just called to get an estimate to get some work done. I was met with hostility and flat out rudeness. Most unprofessional individuals I have ever spoken to. I ended up using Extreme Heat and Air and they were so professional, efficient and affordable.

I just had the most horrific experience with a driver working from R & S Plumbing and Heating. I am literally shaking from this man's lack of human decency. I haven't been to Eagle River since the new McDonald's was built. I've been pulling into their parking lot my entire life. So I wasn't expecting that they'd changed to two enter and exit lanes when I pulled into the suicide lane on Eagle River road. There was a car pulling out of the lot which blocked my view of the exit sign in my line of sight. So I pulled in beside them as they pulled out with plenty of room. That's when I came face to face in my little car to this plumbing van. The man pointed to the exit sign, now clearly visible beside my vehicle. I promptly made an ""oh my goodness, I clearly didn't see that!"" face before motioning, asking if he would back up a few feet and let me through. Common decency and compassion would dictate the following response: this woman didn't see the new sign, I'll just back up a few feet and let her safely pass. Now she'll know for future reference that the parking lot structure has changed. That is not what this man did. No. He crossed his arms and shook his head and decided I needed to learn a lesson. He refused to move the few feet it would have taken for me to safely enter the lot. Instead he forced me to backward into oncoming traffic on the busy main road through Eagle River. At this point I am flabbergasted that this man lacked all compassion and forced me into a dangerous situation because he simply refused to move. At this point I'm upset that I, a pregnant woman with my mother, was faced with gunning it to get to safety. At this point I'm absolutely baffled that he REFUSED to move a few feet to let me pass. It gets better! The man drove back around and waited for me to go through the drive thru so that he could yell at me! That's right. He looped back around, parked, and waited for me to come back out. So I whipped out my cell phone, took a picture of him, which he did in turn, and proceeded to leave the lot. Again driving the wrong way for sake of getting my picture. Which NO ONE else cared about or even noticed. And this man got out of his van and followed me around the parking lot to continue to yell at me. Needless to say, I left McDonald's shaking and in tears, under waaaaay more stress than is healthy. We will never do business with R&S Plumbing and Heating. This man is everything that is wrong society, forcing someone into a dangerous situation because he was too inconsiderate to step aside. I'm starting my day absolutely horrified and trying to calm down. My baby does NOT need this level of stress .

We had R7S install a new Water heater a little over a year ago and was told during the sales pitch that this water heater was ""the best"" and would be ""trouble-free"" for years; well that lasted for about 15 months! Our water heater went out over a week ago and when I called for Don (The owner) I was blocked routinely by a rude, unprofessional individual who identified himself as Trent. I requested for Don to call me back on at least 3 occasions, but never received a call. I finally called again and of course, got Trent, and he said he would make an appointment for the following week! When I reiterated that we had no hot water and that was unacceptable, he stated that they could come sooner but that it would be time and a half! He also stated that we would also have to pay for the defective part! So, shoppers, if you want a quality product with quality backing, I suggest looking somewhere else. Do NOT recommend!

GET A QUOTE or PAY PER JOB! Took them 4.5 hours to replace a flange on a 2nd floor toilet. Billed me at full rate for 4 hours, regardless if they were driving for parts, or re-doing the job they just did. Completed the job after a 3 hours to include the parts run (during lunch time), and toilet leaked, so spent another hour figuring out what he did wrong. All parts were standard and should of been in truck. Job should of been billed at 2 to 2.5 hours.

Furnace made a funny noise and we saw the R&S sticker on the furnace. Called them and they came out pretty quick and told us it needed a part. They asked if we wanted to pay extra for expedited shipping and we did. Earthquake happened so we wait until things somewhat go back to normal before asking when they plan to finish the job. They didn't have our records and seemed confused by my wife's call, but finally found the part sitting on their table. They said they are doing other residential work related to the earthquake and left it at that. I called the next day to see what the plan was and spoke with Rich. He had an attitude seemed appalled that I'd even ask when they would finish the job. I know other homes may have more severe things to be fixed, but it is NOT unreasonable for them to give me a timeline on when they plan to return and fix our furnace. Paying extra for the fast shipping was apparently a waste and Rich was very condescending and just an ass in general. He said he IS the manager of R & S, so I'd just avoid them all together. There are plenty of other shops out there that aren't jerks when you call them. Rich needs to find other work where he doesn't have to talk to people b/c good customer service can go a long way.

They did extra work that was not requested and got charged for it. After they left, whatever they did caused a leak to happen the same day and it took an act of congress for them to come back and fix the leak. DONT RECOMMEND!

Do not trust this company. They told us time & material would be cheaper than doing a quote/bid......approximately $300-400 if we did a lot of the prep work, which we did. After the job, I about fainted when I saw the invoice. It was for $1010. Almost 3 times what they told us. I questioned it and he was ""kind enough"" to remove an hour of labor for one of the 2 guys there, which we were NOT told there would be 2 guys.....for a 1 person job. We had bids for $500 without us doing any work, but Don made it sound like a better deal. We would have NEVER agreed to them doing the job if we thought it would be more than $500. During the job, he didn't even tell me that he thought he would go over the $300-400. I would have told him to stop and we would have done the job ourselves. We are more than capable of doing the work, but we thought $400 would be worth our time of not doing it. What a SCAM!!!!!

Do not use this business for your plumbing or heating needs, not knowledgeable and makes assumptions on what needs fixing instead of accurately assessing the situation. Used this company on a Sunday after learning that the temp in our house had dropped to 37 and the thermostats were flashing ""low battery"". We were out of town, but called several places hoping to get someone local (Eagle River/Chugiak) out right away. R&S first advised to install new batteries to see if that would fix the problem--new batteries were installed, but still no heat upstairs or down, only heat was in garage and crawl space that had an old school non-programmable thermostat. R&S couldn't come out immediately, so called around hoping to find another provider, especially because I've read and heard mixed reviews for R&S. Finally had R&S come out. Tech changed out 2 parts on the boiler in the garage, but never went into the house to look at the thermostats or check if the heat came back on before calling for payment. When asked if the heat was back on, he said the boiler was off/not working when he arrived, and was now on so the heat was on. I said the boiler wasn't off, as the garage and crawl space were much warmer than the other floors (according to the person checking on the house), so had been providing heat there. Some discussion between us about that, and then the tech said a few things, the gist of which was if I wasn't going to take his word (over the phone) and pay, he could go back on the clock and go back in the house. I said just let me text the person in the house to see if heat coming on. I did so and was told heat was slowly coming on downstairs but hadn't checked upstairs yet. I paid and the tech went inside to leave the invoice, at which time he was told the heat upstairs still wasn't coming on. Did not get a call back from the tech, only a call from my housechecker telling me the heat wasn't on upstairs and the tech said the upstairs line was frozen (after checking the lines by the boiler to see if water would flow out) and I needed to get someone out to thaw it. Then the tech proceeded to try to back down the drive instead of turning around at the top, and got stuck partway down, wasted 3 or 4 bags of my gravel trying to get unstuck, and then wanted me to pay for a tow out. The next day I had a thaw company come out and they said the line wasn't frozen at all, just had a lot of air in the one line. They were able to get the air out of the line and the upstairs heat was fixed. They also said a valve needed to be replaced, (a 10 minute job but the thaw company doesn't do it), and should be done within the next few days--so now I need to call a different plumber. The thawing company was able to turn around at the top of the drive in their big rig, pulling a trailer to boot (no trailer with R&S), so up and down with no problem. Sunday rate, double time, was $280, plus parts of $150, for a half done job and unprofessional service.
