Chris C.We had used R Mechanical for at least 10 years. They installed a water heater, a garbage disposal, changed out lines to the washing machine, installed a water line for the refrigerator, replaced a faucet in the bathroom, and a faucet in the kitchen. We won't use them again despite several previous positive experiences. Their customer service is now poor, their service has gone downhill, and they are completely overpriced.
They wanted to charge nearly $700 for installing a new toilet (we were purchasing a new one ourselves), charging separately for replacing the shut-off valve for the toilet, and replacing the faucet in the bathroom. We asked for the quote when we scheduled an appointment for a plumber to come to the residence regarding the waterline. The hole in the foundation surrounding the water line leaking some water, presumably had lost sealant. We thought it might need to be resealed. The plumber wasted a trip to the residence over this issue because it had nothing to do with the waterline, so we thought we would have him at least address something while at the residence. I clearly explained the issue over the phone to Liz 3X. I stated it wasn't the waterline, it was coming in from the hole after a large deluge of rain and had stopped coming in as soon as the rain stopped. Liz still documented it as a leaky water line. . .
We waited for the quote in writing for nearly a week. It never came to my e-mail address. I wrote them on their website a few days later when we still had not received a quote, and I didn't hear back from them. I finally left a message and received a callback. Apparently they had an e-mail on file that is over 6 years old. They never bothered to verify the e-mail address at the residence prior to sending the quote out. And, despite changing the e-mail address with Brooke over the phone and calling them 2X, I still don't have the quote in writing. I finally just had her quote me over the phone.
Prior to this, I called them about hail damage to our r&r raincap that covers the furnace vent. Liz tried to refer me to a roofing company despite explaining to her that heating and ventilation companies are trained to replace these, specifically because if you push them down too far, which a roofer could do due to lack of proper training; it can cause carbon monoxide poisoning. This comes straight from a roofing company that instructed me to call an HVAC company. I only called them because our normal HVAC tech can't climb on a roof due to a disability and his father, the owner, is too old to climb on a roof.
When we remodeled our kitchen about 2 years ago, they installed a new faucet and reconnected our garbage disposal and replaced a bit of plumbing that the plumber claimed needed to be replaced under the sink. It cost us nearly $700. We recently found out it would have cost less than $400 elsewhere. The technician that came to the residence was also less than desirable. . .
When the water heater was installed about 10 years ago, there were problems (e.g. drywall damage when moving the old unit up the stairs), but we let it go and had several positive experiences following the incident, specifically with their plumber Adam. But the recent issues are so egregious that we won't ever use them again.
They are also terrible about getting receipts to customers. Receipts are important for records, especially if selling a house in the future.
After the last problem, I texted our electrician and asked for a referral elsewhere because we trust his judgment. We are glad we did it. Won't use them again.
I called on a Sunday afternoon to get a water heater replaced and the job was done next morning by 9:30. Nice and professional installers - highly recommend.
Kelly C.This company was sent out by our home warranty company. The work order had two items, the main one being a huge sewage backup in our basement The technician that came to perform the tasks did not have any idea what he was doing. He told us he couldn't more than 15' into our main line, and that he'd need to come back the next day with a camera and equipment that was not covered by our warranty company. Then, he told me that I would more than likely have to take apart my deck so he could get an excavator to dig into the concrete to get to the pipe (which didn't even GO under our deck!). For no reason, he concluded that the problem was in pipes outside of the house, which would not be covered period. On top of this, he drug LITERAL sh!t UP OUR CARPETED BASEMENT STAIRS AND CAKED IT ONTO OUR KITCHEN FLOOR WITH A PIECE OF EQUIPMENT!!! Now I need a carpet cleaning!!!!!! I called another plumbing company to pay OUT OF POCKET (A-1 Sewer and Septic Service), and the technician not only respected our property, but did a simple ROOTER and OUR ISSUE IS FIXED.
My first appointment they no-showed me. Struggled to try to work with them but I had one more task they promised to complete but they no-showed me on that too and never could get a callback. Spent a decent chunk of money there and not sure I'm any better off than when I started.
We have used this company twice they installed a new furnace in our rental
Property at half the cost of the big advertised names and when our home furnace went out last week they fixed it for a-great price and DID NOT try to up sell us a new furnace I think they are an honest and reputable company Cary Hall
Daniel D.I plugged up my kitchen line using the garbage disposal. Called at 10pm and they sent a great guy out. I've got an older house from the 20s and it took a fair amount of snaking but they got me back up and running by 1am for the $170 they quoted me over the phone. Great service from beginning to end. They gave me some advice on how to prevent it from happening again.
We had a horrendous experience with this company. R-Mech installed a new furnace in our home in 2015. In 2016, our A/C went out. Naturally, the first company we called to see about getting a new A/C was R-Mech. Unfortunately they were unable to get there for two weeks. Being that it was July when this was happening, we couldn't wait that long, so we hired another company to install a new A/C for us. While this was unfortunate that they could not get our A/C installed for that long, I understand in the middle of the summer they are busy, and this has NOTHING to do with the poor review.
Fast forward to summer 2017, and our A/C has a problem. Naturally, I call the company that installed our A/C (not R-Mech) to come take a look at it. The tech from the other company tested our capacitor, which he said was in good shape, and then stated the problem was that the fan motor on the furnace was not functioning properly, which was causing the A/C not to work. He stated that because the furnace was so new, it should be covered by the warranty, and recommended that I contact R-Mech, who had installed the furnace, to get it taken care under warranty.
So upon the other tech's recommendation, I contact R-Mech and explain that the furnace fan motor appears to be broken, and they have a tech sent out. Our tech was named Jake, and our experience with him was awful. He walked into our furnace room and immediately informed me that the warranty on our furnace was void since the furnace had been opened (by this he means that the screws were taken out of the cover plate on the furnace). Remember, it was another certified HVAC tech that opened the furnace and diagnosed the fan motor was broken. So he informed me that I'd have to pay full price for the part and the labor to install it. I explained to him that it was another HVAC tech that had opened the furnace, but he said that the warranty was still void. He called his boss (I think his name was Josh) and let me speak to him, because I refused to agree that the warranty had been void. After explaining the situation to him, Josh said that they would in fact warranty the part, and my only cost would be the labor.
When a part is warrantied, the manufacturer replaces the part for free. So to Jake and R-Mech, it shouldn't matter whether it is the customer or the manufacturer who is paying for the part. They make their money via the labor and service call charge. So why would Jake not do everything in his power to get the part warrantied in this situation? The only logical explanation that I can think of was that they were attempting to charge me for the part, which they would then warranty and get supplied a replacement by the manufacturer for free, so essentially they'd be charging me for a $500 part that they got for free because they warrantied it, hence increasing their profit by $500.
Fortunately after speaking with Josh, they agreed the part was covered by warranty.
We were scheduled to be out of town the day that R-Mech was able to come and replace the part. Jake knew this, and I also told him that my Mother-In-Law had offered to stay at our house and we'd leave her a check to pay him with. The day before the work was scheduled to be done (and the day that my wife and I were leaving town), Jake called me and stated that he had availability later in the day, and he thought he could get the work done that day. I was thrilled that we could get this taken care of a day early, but we were still going to be out of town. My Mother-In-Law then graciously said she could come over a day early so the repairs could get done as quickly as possible, and we'd have A/C again. So Jake came and got the part replaced and called me to tell me the total charges for the labor to install the new fan motor. The charge was about $75 higher than what we had previously discussed, and when I asked why, he said there was an additional charge for an after hours service call. Nowhere in our phone conversation where he offered to come a day early did Jake mention that he would be charging an after hour service call fee to get it done that night. If I had known there was going to be an extra cost, I would have just had him come the next day. Then, about 15 minutes after hanging up the phone with him, he calls back and states that our thermostat is broken, and the cheapest thermostat he had with him was $300. The thermostat was working fine before any of this happened. Being that we weren't home at the time, I said that I'll look into replacing the thermostat myself when we return to town. He then stated that it would void the warranty on the furnace if anyone other than a certified tech installed a thermostat. I explained we'd be using another HVAC company to get a new thermostat since I was so upset with R-Mech. After hanging up, he called back and informed me he made a mistake and the thermostat was working fine. Tell me that's not fishy.
HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! STAY AWAY!
Set up air conditioner clean and check up through our home owners association. $55.00 seemed to me to be a fair deal. When tech arrived he checked inside first then outside. Outside is where he found that the capacitor was not within tolerance and suggested that it should be replaced. I agreed to let him replace it at the tune of $225.00, which I thought was a lot, however I did not want to have the unit fail, so I decided to bite the bullet. The day after he left I was in the side yard near the air conditioner and noticed the tech left the old capacitor as well as the box that contained to new capacitor laying in the lawn, so I decided to check the part number on Google and low and behold found numerous places that sold the same capacitor for well under $10.00. Now I understand the the need for a company to mark up their parts; but by a 2,225% markup? That is obscene! No more R-Mech for me.
Kevin J.Justin Munsterman came out to service my heat pump. He called ahead of time to confirm when he would be arriving. He spent the time to walk me through what he was doing and why. Justin also gave me his opinion on the condition/quality of both my heat pump and heating unit. His professionalism, honesty, and integrity far exceeded any experience I've had before. He's a very knowledgeable tech and a high quality person. I strongly recommend working with Justin. I plan to request him for any and all of my future A/C and heating needs.
Paula C.One word: fantastic!! The best Kansas City A/C guys to call anytime. We have never found such an excellent company that makes itself available 24/7 when the a/c has issues and outside temp is in the 90's! Very professional service.
