Scott Carroll, the owner, was scheduled to come to fix plumbing problems twice. Both times I was called at the last minute to reschedule. The third time a nice young man showed up, not Scott Carroll, but was unable to fix most of our plumbing issues. He suggested that I make an appointment with Scott Carroll.

I rescheduled for 8 am the following week to have Scott Carroll estimate a cost for a water filtration system and fix some minor plumbing problems. Based on his history, I called the day before to confirm. At 10am that day he arrived. I told him he was 2 hours late. Rather than apologize, he responded with ""I don't need to hear this bullshit"" and he left.

I can't say their work is good or bad, but I would never reccommend a rude and totally unprofessional plumbing company like RJ Carroll and Sons and especially Scott Carroll.

For several years we had satisfactory service but the latest plumbing service we were grossly overcharged for the time the plumber supposedly was here. I called several times to speak to the manager hoping to correct the billing error but never reached her and never got a return call. I finally paid a portion of the bill that I thought was fair. Since then I never heard from them, apparently they accepted the lower amount. It appears there has been some management changes or internal problems.

They've always done fantastic work for our business. Dealt with the City, permitting, etc. They've always been prompt and very communicative. Employees are respectful and responsible. These guys are a pleasure to do business with.

They will charge you for their mistakes and blame it on you. Very unprofessional. I won't use them again.

They came after dark to my apartment. I had no notice from the landlord, and when I asked what he was doing he couldn't really explain himself. I asked for a business card and he couldn't show me one. Very unprofessional and creepy to say the least. My mom was about
to call the police.

I agree with the Review above. These guys are actually scary. They do the work and if there is something that we wanted to bring up, they would stare at me then tell me that were definitely not going to change it. Terrible customer service! This is an old SB company that has obviously gone south since the ""sons"" to over. Steer clear!

I needed a drain line cleaned out so I called RJ Carroll. I asked specifically what the charges would be and tried to make sure there were no hidden ""trip"" charges, etc. We agreed to a price (the 'everything included' price) and made an appointment. They showed up, cleaned out the drain, and I gave them a credit card. When I got my statement at the end of the month, I discovered that they had charged me more than the agreed amount. When I called to question the amount -- the 'office manager' said that the plumber had *forgotten* to add other necessary charges to my bill. These included a ""machine charge"" because I didn't provide MY OWN DRAIN SNAKE to clean out my drain, a ""misc charge"" which she explained was for the two blue gloves he had to put on to keep his hands from getting dirty. When I pointed out the conversation I had BEFORE they came out -- where we discussed the TOTAL cost -- she got very rude and claimed that the plumber told me what the charges were and that I must have just misunderstood him. DO NOT use these yahoos. Thankfully I saved the invoice the plumber wrote that didn't have the machine charge and glove charge. What a hassle. I called my credit card co and eventually got the extra charges taken off. Call somebody else. Don't waste your time.

Had a tree root problem. They were prompt, helpful and did quality work. They even problemsolved to save me money by trying something that fixed a related problem without spending hundereds of dollars. Diagnosis was immediate and thorough. Quality work with no further problems has been accomplished.

June 30, 2010. R. J. Carroll called to fix our blocked kitchen drain. Pipe under sink was disassembled and unclogged.

July 13, 2010. We receive, and pay, invoice for $111.33.

July 25,2010. We find water under the sink, see that the drain pipe previously worked on by Carroll has fallen apart. We call Carroll and drain is repaired. This was a fix of their previous work, so we assume there will be no charge.

August 3, 2010. We receive an invoice for $142.63. We complain, write letters to Carroll, and file a complaint with the Santa Barbara Better Business Bureau.

August 16,2010. We call Carroll again, and they say they will reduce invoice by $51.00, to $91.63. Further negotiations go nowhere.

August 30, 2010. We pay the $91.63 under protest, and notify Carroll that we intend to file a suit against them in small claims court.

October 7, 2010. Judge awards us half of the disputed payment (I thought). But the entry of judgement mailed on 10/12 says we get zero back.

Carroll's position: (from their letter of August 24, 2010) ""...sink waste tubing was too long (and not to code) and was probably part of the reason the drain tubing kept [my emphasis] separating."" Fact #1: tube had never previously separated in the 16 years we have lived in the house. Fact #2: tube had not separated when drain was clogged on June 30. Fact #3: tube has not separated since it was properly assembled on July 25. In other words, tube separated exactly once, after the original ""repair.""
