My pipes burst in my new home and I needed an emergency visit. The price to have them come out, turn off and disconnect the water to my powder room was astronomical. They told me I had no insulation under the room so the pipes will freeze again until I do.
I decided to leave them disconnected until spring. I called Putman back out to re-connect the pipes -- at least I could have it for the warm months.
From the moment the plumber arrived, he acted rude -- as if I was wasting his time. Like he had more important things to do.
I got the lecture about needing insulation and I said I wanted the use of the powder room until I can get someone to insulate it.
He then told me he couldn't hook the plumbing back up b/c he couldn't get into the crawl space. How did they disconnect it???
He then said he wanted me to get someone to break open the foundation to get to the pipes under the powder room.
Then he dropped the bomb that even if he could hook it all back up, it would be some other time and cost at least $1400.
After all the excuses to not do anything to reconnect my water, he was out of my home in record time.
There was this overall sense that he had no intent on reconnecting the lines that day.
So I'll give him exactly what he wants. I'll never bother him (or them again).

For my local peeps - if you ever need plumbing work done - especially in an emergency situation like I had last night - I can't recommend Putman Plumbing, Inc enough!

I called around 930ish pm to see if they had an available technician to fix a leak that was getting progressively worse through the day in the last copper pipe in my well water system connected to the water pump. Charlie was there within the hour, immediately diagnosed the issue, replaced the water pump (unbeknownst to me the old one was 29 years old and made it way past it's expected lifetime), pipes and one valve by midnight and did an amazing cleanup job. Their pricing seemed VERY fair to me as well. Couldn't have asked for a better service call!

Seriously if you're stuck with a plumbing emergency after hours and are in Frederick County, reach out to them!

Too bad I can't give them no stars. Freaking criminals. Why is it so hard to find a honest contractor that doesn't want to gouge you on every job? They wanted $4K to replace a water heater plus another $120 to fix a leak plus another $65 for a permit. Are you kidding me?

They charged me $65 for the service visit and another 2.9% for using a credit card to pay for the service visit. Who charges a service fee to use a credit card any more.

Even one star is one two many. Called for after hours service and was advised that all of their on call people were busy. One was at a wedding rehearsal dinner one was out to a anniversary dinner and one was with their parent. So I guess they really were not on call Then they called and said you know this will cost you 200.00 for us to do this call that we really can't do. Very poor way to run a business. They should not tell a customer what their on call people are doing.

Have always used Putman Plumbing for the past 20 years. All their employees I find to be excellent workers. All have different personalities. Just had a upstairs toilet replaced and upon arriving discovered I asked for the wrong color. Scott said no problem, luckily the color I needed was in stock at the warehouse and he left to retrieve. Excellent work from replacing the toilet and replacing the water valve. Thanks for a good job Scott!

Putman Plumbing is GREAT. They've always provided really good service, but today we had an emergency (friends flying in, no water) and, in spite of an already-full schedule, they installed a new well pump and made some other repairs.

DO NOT USE PUTMAN PLUMBING!

Here's my story from just Friday until today...

I took the advice from some people on here and had Putman Plumbing out here today to figure out why the pressure in the house was so low. I called them on Friday early morning because my wife was complaining about not having any hot water and it affecting more than just one faucet. We talked, they seemed nice, we scheduled for them to arrive at 3:30pm. I was surprised by the same day service but figured it was my good fortune.

1:30pm I miss a call from them and call them back about 15 minutes later. They tell me that they have a current customer without hot water and they're going to fix that customer instead of me. I'm really not okay with this but I just had surgery the day before so I'm not necessarily up for arguing and am just left disappointed. We rescheduled for ~9am on Monday. This of course meant I'd have a whole weekend without hot water thanks to their deciding that another customer was more important than me... bummer.

Jay showed up about 9am. He replaced the pressure reducer valve and helped me clean some sediment from a couple faucets as well as remove a flow restrictor in a shower head. I liked Jay.

Immediately after Jay left, I was hearing the sound of water running and I didn't believe there to be anything in the home using water so I began to look for it. The hose faucet outside the home was spraying water directly out from the valve as if the valve had completely gone at probably 2-3 gallons per minute. It wasn't like this prior to their visit. I have a garden right by it and tend it every day. I turned the faucet off and called them to fix what they broke.

They came back out and turned the faucet back on and it is no longer spraying out that same way. We talked about their replacing the faucet (he didn't even mention repacking the valve which any plumber that wasn't trying to jack the price up would probably have considered first) and he went back to the vehicle to write out their list of what it would take.

On the list was:
$275 fee for replacing the hose faucet
$120 fee for cutting an access panel in the drywall.

He then explained that because they came back out and don't see the problem I described that they were going to charge me the $49 service fee. I had a big issue with this as being charged for a return trip was never talked about, they were only out again because I discovered their replacement of the pressure reducing valve damaged my faucet and caused massive water loss, and he admitted to me prior that he had the pressure reducer completely open and was only getting 48 lbs (or whatever) pressure. If the pressure in Middletown varies then it's likely that I now have an open pressure reducer AND it already caused damage to at least one thing.

So we talked about my cutting a hole in the drywall. Paying $120 for a couple minutes to have someone cut a ridiculously small hole is just silly. It takes literally minutes but he wouldn't wait for me to do it. He said if I had the faucet replaced I wouldn't have to pay the $49 fee so I was going to do that but paying someone to cut the hole when it takes me literally minutes is ridiculous.

So I go to sign the form with the replacement of the faucet on it and he says he'll have to come back as he wont wait a couple minutes, and there's that $49 fee again. Tacked on like they were trying to pull a fast one.

I told him I wasn't paying it. He called the office who told him that if I wont pay it then they'd ask me not to use them in the future.

I'm suggesting that EVERYONE not use Putman Plumbing.

On top of it, when he came back out he never did recheck the water pressure to see if it had increased since he left the first time. Now I have to have someone else come out to lower the pressure reducing valve such that if the pressure does vary as much as seems like it may have it wont cause further damage in the house.

Seriously people, there are LOTS of plumbers out there. I've dealt with several in the past. I went with Putman because I thought they were a smaller local outfit but had I known they were going to be (what I would call) shady and refuse to take responsibility for what they caused, and not do any testing to see if maybe they really did cause it, then I'd have called someone else for sure.

DON'T USE PUTMAN PLUMBING.

It's gonna sound crazy, but we ENJOYED our visit from Scott today! Go figure, would look forward to seeing anyone from this company if he is an example. From the phone call at almost noon to them being on time, clean, polite, and professional less than three hours later. He cleared a drain we had been trying to snake for days. Save your time, call Putman! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

We called Putmun after trying a competitor. The competitor refused to give me a quote over the phone for a hot water heater replacement. Even after I told the dispatcher my budget, they send a tech to do an""assessment"". The ""assessment"" was to tell me that I needed a new HWH. I already knew that. Then he spent the time writing up an incredibly expensive service order that included a non-decript unit with no breakout of the unit and labor. I sent them on their way and to the urging of my neighbors called Putnam. They gave me a ROM price for the unit, and labor and gave me several options. They told me the make and model of the unit I was buying and did't hard sell a long term service agreement. The quality of the work was outstanding. The unit was neatly installed. Not a drop of water on the floor, and the old unit was leaking! Scott was curious, friendly and very knowledgeable in his work. I know we will have other issues in this house as we are getting close to that 15 year mark, and I will call Putnam again without hesitation.
