I hired Proper Plumbing to repipe my home. The sink in my basement water lines were connected in reverse. One of the workers stole multiple items from my basement. He also went into my storage bins and stole. When I called the all, Brenda apologized and stated he also stole tools from Mr. Swan. Glen Swan never contacted me or returned to correct the water line connection. So unfortunate when you try to support our black business they steal from you and do less than professional work.
I, Emily Porter, contracted with Proper Plumbing in May 2024 to install a water heater in my condo in Upper Marlboro, Maryland 20774. Of the several estimates I received, Mr. Swann gave me the lower estimate which I chose and also because I wanted to support a minority business. His service proved to be anything but Proper. In selecting the service I explained to him the kind of heater I had and that this was a complex installation He boasted that he had just installed two similar heaters. I paid him up front for the cost of the water heater he recommended which was among the top tier brands. On the day of installation his two helpers arrived first. One was quite boorish and did not regard my property -- did not come prepared with drop cloths, etc. to protect my newly installed hardwood floors. The installation proved to be a disaster!
First it was the water pressure; then no hot water, then scalding hot water and leaking from the tank. Luckily I came home just in time to control flooding from spreading from the utility room to the living area. I knew how to turn off the main water with some difficulty because the heat was so intense. I had to use towels , blankets and pillows to absorb the water. I called Mrl. Swann. He said he would come within two hours . This first such failure occurred at about 8 p.m. He did not show up until around 5 p.m. the next day -- after I made repeated calls to him. This malfunction was followed by two more. After the second malfunction he said he was sick of it. Each time he never responded in a timely manner. He never showed up as he promised or not at all. The third malfunction was worse, I had to engage emergency plumbing service -- flooding from the heater with intense heat -- like a boiling pot leaking pipes. There is much more unprofessionalism I experienced with Mr. Swan and his helpers, but in short I had to have the heater reinstalled properly. The company I engaged was appalled and asked if a lay person had done the job. Further they noted that it would have never passed inspection. Mr. Swann discouraged inspection when I inquired about it, stating that it was a waste of money and that was why he was licensed and insured. This experience caused me much anxiety, stress and additional expense which has adversely affected my health == having me to get emergency hospital treatment. I am an older person, in my twilight years and I am just now able to address this matter and being advised how to file a claim against Mr. Swann. (Note: I paid Mr. Swann even more than he charged in support of a small minority (Black) business.)
Mo F.Mr. Swann is a master plumber who is very competent, reliable and trustworthy. My extended family and I have used him for various plumbing jobs while I was living in Upper Marlboro, MD. When I sold my home, I knew I could count on him if anything went wrong with plumbing (fortunately, it did not). He was my go-to plumber. His prices are reasonable and competitive and he does great work. I definitely recommend!
I hired Proper plumbing services to install new faucets for the my new sinks that came with my granite counter tops. I called them as i had used them once before and felt that they were fair. Unfortunately my previous experience was not evidence of future performance. Though the guys that showed up were very nice and respectlful they arrived at my house at approximately 1:00pm and did not finish until after 8:30pm. The job was only to reconnect new faucets to the new sinks after having been disconnected for the counter top replacements. I specifically asked if the job was by the hour as i had to wait twice (over 2 hrs) for parts that they did not have. Upon completion of the job it was a very big surprise when i was told they were charging me almost $500 dollars. I spoke with the owner who made mention of how long they were there and the complications of a 60/40 sink. Last i checked 60/40 sinks were quite common place and should not have been considered out of the ordinary. How he could even attempt to justify this price for the amt of work that should have been needed is beyond me. I am horrified and disappointed that this type of highway robbery is out there. Especially when you are attempting to give someone repeat business. I will never use Proper Plumbing services of Brandywine Maryland again and I would strongly advise that you steer clear of this company if you have any other alternatives.
Outstanding service!! Glenn and his brother came within two hours of placing the call. Very efficient. They found the leak, fixed it, and cleaned up. Would definitely recommend them.
