My toilet was running when I first bought my house and someone recommended Prairie State. I imagined it was a faulty flap. The plumber came out and gave me a new flap and recommended a bunch of other stuff so I agreed. One thing was new bolts that connect my tank to the bowl. Total cost was almost $400. Two days later, I noticed those bolts were not sealed and water was leaking from the tank. The same plumber came back and said it was 1/4 inch off. He said he fixed it. This was months ago. Last night I noticed it's leaking again. I called and asked for a different plumber and not that guy. They said they could come out 5 days later and mean while my tank is leaking. On top of that, I have to call a carpenter to see if my floor is ok from the water. Prairie State said they are not carpenters so they won't check my floor for me. Yep days before the visit, I called them back to see if they could come out sooner. They said it would be overtime. I said I want to make sure I don't have to pay for the visit. They said that I do and it's $130 an hour. I asked about a warranty and they said they have a 30 day warranty on their work and since it has been over 30 days I have to pay for them to fix the same bolt.
Vicki S.Doug has always been professional, courteous and responsive. He explained everything involved and completed the job in a timely manner.
I am a property manager, and I have worked with Prairie State Plumbing and Heating for years. their level of professionalism, knowledge of their trade, and reliability have been what keeps me doing business with them.
I appreciate that they take the time to explain issues and educate me regarding anything they are working on. They are worth every penny I have paid!
We had used one of their plumbers Sean in the past and contacted him to do some quoted work for us. He had since started with Prairie State and we moved forward with their quote because we trusted Sean - at the time. Sean and I had spoke about running lines to connect a bathroom in my barn to the main line in the house in addition to getting water ran out to that same bathroom. We spoke at length about the pit that being installed and the water that needed ran. He stated after the work was done he would return to hook up the final part of the water since there were no mains to shut off yet he didn't want to cause more issues - just let him know. We let him know it was ready and he said he never said that. Then he stated it wasn't written in the quote so he didn't say it. He also stated he was using a pump in the pit that was plenty of power to pump to the main house and we'd be all set up. Sold me a really great picture. Once the bathroom was finished and on the pumps FIRST use it didn't work due to a float installation issue. I called them to correct it and they are now claiming that they didn't install the pump only sold us the pump. That my contractor was going to install it. Not true - I've worked with my contractor for years - never once has he been dishonest. When I contacted Prairie State about it they have declined responsibility because the receipt didn't specifically detail the work done to say so even though their plumber stated other wise to me. They filled in the hole dug that was expected to settle but has now settled Below the dig line creating landscaping issues around my foundation (potential water basement leaking issues can happen due to this) and leaving behind large holes. They say again my responsibility to ""grade"" the holes they dug. However after they filled the hole they covered it with my landscaping rocks that have sunk as well. So not sure how we grow landscape that was poorly redone. They haven't came to inspect they're just assuming. So if you use them my best advice is to get every thing they are doing in writing. Do not have them do work if it isn't listed and if they SAY they're going to do something be sure to get it in writing. That was my biggest mistake trusting a plumber on his words and not what was in writing.
