I had a clogged drain in the master bathroom and called Powers Plumbing to fix the problem. When the plumber (AND his ""assistant""?!) arrived they told me the service charge would be $89/hour and $45/hour, respectively. This seemed reasonable to me and they began the work to fix my drain. After 25 minutes, they were not able to clear the stoppage through the clean out. Next, they tell me they have to drive BACK to the shop to pick up a DIFFERENT machine. When they returned an hour later, they had a larger gadget (snake? I dunno) and ran it through the main line and then thru the roof vent. This fixed the problem and my drains were working again. The TOTAL time spent at my house was 1 hour tops!!! Well, a new problem arose...the BILLING!!! They charged me $335 dollars (I was thinking more like $134.00). Apparently, I was also charged for the time the plumbers drove BACK to ""the shop"" for another tool. SERIOUSLY?!! Does Powers Plumbing really expect their customers to fully know what the precise PROBLEM is with the pipes, what TOOLS plumbers should have to DO the job, and to have the tools in their van BEFORE they arrive at the customer's house? Give me a break! After complaining to Powers Plumbing, they were ""nice"" enough to knock off a half hour of their service time.

Cannot thank Powers Plumbing enough. We recently had a gas leak and Powers Plumbing was professional from start to finish. We got 3 quotes and it wasn't the cheapest but you get what you pay for! The service was fantastic and trusted both workers in and around our place. The owners followed through with updates which was so appreciated. Using them again!

Very honest. Had a water heater fail two months ago. They re-plumbed it and put in a top notch water heater for me. These guys all work as a team and back up their business professionally. Not a fly-by-night single person operation. You want them on your team, period.

I am a new homeowner and was looking to find a plumber for possible plumbing emergencies and maintenance/upgrades. I decided to try powers plumbing for a small job of replacing the plate on my shower and replacing the off/on nob and spout. The first thing that I was already forewarned about was that they begin charging when they leave their office in mission hills. Just hope there is not traffic or an accident. I live in north park and I was hoping this wouldn't bother me but it kinda did while I was waiting for them to arrive. Second I knew that they charged by the ""minute"" for services. Obviously I was hoping that the plumber I had would finish the job quickly but I wondered with variation in skill level how that might affect pricing. They charge by the minute and the plumber actually has an ipad with a big clock ticking away your dollar bills. As far as skill and professionalism.. the plumber completed the job in what I hoped was a timely manner but I don't know how long it should take. Who knows if a 30 minute job actually took 60 minutes. It took me about a month to receive my bill in the mail. You would think with the fancy ipad you would be able to pay on the spot? Powers Plumbing can complete a job and have a long standing reputation but I found a different plumber with business practices I prefer. He quotes a job and that is how much it will cost, updating you if the price will change as he works.. no giant clock sitting next to him ticking away my money. I much prefer this style of business. No hard feelings I just won't use them again.

This is by far my most enjoyable ""plumbing experience"" in 30 years of living in a variety of older houses and hence utilizing lots of plumbers ( in San Diego for last four years).
First, when i phoned for service, Janet was so pleasant and helpful (including checking on the merits of a kitchen faucet i had already purchased). Her description of the service and charges was upfront and clear and fair.
Second, the service person (Fernando) was here as scheduled at 8:15. Fernando was so pleasant -- as evidenced by my German shep immediately relaxing and stopping her barking -- and neat and efficient. Fernando also explained how water pressure may result in tiny leaks thru faucets and toilets.
Very simple: professional, competent, congenial.
And very fair pricing.
What a sense of relief and comfort to know that we now have a plumbing service we can comfortably call on any time.
Thank you.

Great personal service. They are awesome. This is the second(old home issues)time we've had them. I want to consider them an old home experts. I love the fact they are 5 mins from us...but the Plumbers are awesome!!!!

I like to support local businesses so I scheduled Powers to install a dishwasher and garbage disposal. They said it would take a couple of hours. The plumber showed up 15 minutes late and looked at the job confused. He was told he was to do something completely different then what I ordered. He said that he was told that it was a stainless steel sink and he didn't have the right drill. He left and another plumber showed up fifteen minutes later. The second plumber spent fifteen minutes explaining to me that they might chip the sink when they drill it and another 30 minutes explaining to the other plumber how to install the dishwasher and disposal. The original plumber left two more times to go back to the store. Granted it was close, but I am still suppossed to pay the guy $89 an hour while they get their crap together. He came back and spend 90 minutes with some kind of saw. I finally decided to come see what he was doing. He said he was having trouble cutting out the second drain. I didn't ask to have the second drain cut out. He said that's alright I won't charge you, she always gives us the wrong directions. He left again to get my free second drain. So 5.5 hours later he leaves with my sink disgustingly dirty. I am pretty sure I could have done the job myself in 5.5 hours. I went back to ask them to clean the sink and it was liked I asked them to give up their first born child. The second plumber came over and was extermely rude but did clean the sink.

The office told me there was a half hour minimum charge for someone to check out our old furnace then billed me for 45 minutes via mail when the guy was here 5 minutes to tell me the furnace was old and he recommended replacing it, which they do not do. I was not told I had to pay travel time. Guthrie and Sons told me the same thing over the phone and is coming to give a free estimate for replacement. Others in the industry also offer a free estimate for replacement. The service technician was a good guy and professional. I have no issue with him. I will not call L.B. Powers again and don't recommend them. (When I called they did lower the bill to half hour but I still find it insulting).

Fixed my 1920's Craftsman floor furnace. After making the appointment, I was impressed that (a) they called ahead to tell me they were on their way, (b) he arrived on time, (c) the service guy was very knowledgeable about our make and model of floor furnace, (d) he fixed the problem relatively quickly, (e) he was thorough in testing the fixed furnace for carbon monoxide. I also got a discount for mentioning Yelp. I will be using these guys again and recommend them to everyone.

Our shower faucet developed a steady drip that needed immediate attention. I am a religious do-it-yourselfer and had every intention of completing this project myself. After finding no obvious way to remove the valve and discovering in my trip to Home Depot that there are dozens of potential replacement-part options, many that are not even stocked in the store, I decided to make an exception and call in L.B. Powers. They had an appointment available on very short notice and arrived promptly on schedule. Robert was very professional, courteous, and knowledgeable. I quickly discovered that I made a wise decision in calling in a professional. After 25-years, the valve insert had calcified inside the housing and required a special extraction tool to remove. While on site, I had them replace an identical valve in our guest shower. The entire job took 30-minutes + parts. I am certain I would have created a huge problem doing this work myself and saved tons of time and $$ by recognizing my limits. My entire experience with LB. Powers was exceptional.
