LaToya A.My water heater burst on Monday, December 10th in the evening time, and desperate for an immediate resolution, I contacted Home Depot for plumbing services. They contracted the service to this Popular Plumbing & Heating
On December 11th, Gabriel, the technician, arrived at my home to install the new water heater which is located in my tenant's apartment. Once he completed the job, I looked at it and thought it was fine not knowing what would happen next.
On the next day, my tenant noticed that the water pressure in her kitchen was very low after installation. As a result of this notification, I contacted Popular and spoke to Erik and then later Brandon to request that they have someone come in and check the issue with the pressure. Erik confirmed they would send a tech out to check out the work.
On Friday, December 14th, a different technician arrived and checked the work that was done. I wasn't on site at the time, so the tech called me to say everything is fine. About an hour later after my discussion with the tech, I received a call from Brandon [from Popular] who stated that he has news for me which he presented as if it was good news based on his exciting tone. He informed me that my water heater was not installed correctly--the exhaust pipe has to be 4"" and the at the initial technician reused my old piping which is 3"" and the chimney needs to be cut to accommodate the new pipe. He then stated the cost for this would be an additional $900. I told him has to fix it and I will not pay 1 cent more than the quoted price. He also informed me that I could get a carbon monoxide leak if I keep the initial pipping. Later on that day, spoke with Erik who said that the New York City code changed recently and a 4-inch pipe is required. I informed him that this is serious and I need someone to come out right away, and it is their jo to ensure that their techs know what to do. The company took our safety for granted. The CO detectors did not go off, so thank goodness we were fine during the process. Immediately after speaking to Erik, I contacted Home Depot to file a formal complaint. In light of the complaint, I received a text from Brandon over that weekend stating that they can have someone come over by Tuesday of the next week to change the pipe. They did replace the piping and expanded the chimney at no additional cost to me.
In closing, Home Depot Is not popularly vetting their contractors. Popular is sending unqualified technicians out to do plumbing work. Please use caution using Home Depot and Popular Plumbing & Heating. Lesson learned: I will not use Home Depot for any future plumbing services.
Raul M.We had an emergency situation at home with our water heating systems breaking down. The guys at Popular Plumbing were here in less than 24 hrs and installed a new water heating system. They were very efficient and did a great job.
