Company Overview

Daryl Welker founded Poor John's Plumbing in 1987. He aimed to improve his family's living conditions. In 1995, he met his wife, who later became his business partner. Together, they managed the company until 2014. Today, their son and nephew manage the business, carrying on the family name.

In 2014, I acquired the business from my parents. As a licensed master plumber, I bring over a decade of experience. I take pleasure in meeting new people and tackling their plumbing problems quickly.

Well I hired them because of ""good"" reviews on Google. First off their communication is lousy. No one answers the phone, you always have to leave a message and someone will call you back. This ended up to be really inconvenient when we had a problem. Next the plumber did the job but he also did damage to tiles. I kept asking him to use a drop cloth (Duh) but he never did and consequently his hammers and wrenches cracked multiple tiles. Jasmine was contacted and ignored us thus the poor review. Not professional.

We called Poor Johns plumbing they sent out a young man that said I had a cold water inlet leak. left for over an hour to get the part said it would be $350 put in the part then came back upstairs and told me whoops sorry looks like you need a new water heater. He tightened it too tight broke my water heater they refused to give me their insurance information after he promised my husband he would. Be very careful with the people they are not honest and they lie. The young man who installed my piping said he told me it was the water heater that was an out right lie. Why would he go buy the part? And install it.I have pictures before the leak and now afterwords my 98-year-old father lives with no hot water and is a veteran of two war.If we turn it on it floods our basement. Take my advice find another company!

Just had a toilet replaced by Poor John's. They were quick to respond and the best price out of 3 bids. Did the job right and would hire them again.

These folks are my plumbers for life! When using the kitchen sink created a shower in the basement, I was VERY nervous about what sort of cost I'd be in for! Shawn showed up right on time, assessed the situation and showed me clearly what was going on, and prepared 3 different estimates within a few minutes. This involved some significant pipe-replacement and re-configuring but he had the entire thing done in under 3 hours, and the charge was MUCH less than I would have expected (and, I have learned less than others would have charged). Poor John's plumbers will answer all your questions, are very respectful of the customer's home environment, and provide really quality work! Jasmine in the office is also very pleasant to work with . And, as you may have noticed, they post their prices, practically unheard of these days!

My water heater broke due to old age. Jake and Dave were great to deal with and very knowledgeable about what needed to be done. Dave did an excellent job on the install!

I felt compelled to write this, albeit belated, review. If you would have asked me a year ago, heck even 6 months ago, for a plumbing recommendation, it would have been Poor John's Plumbing. First let me say that any & all work ever done by Erik, and another plumber whose name escapes me right now, has been top notch. Excellent job done every time they came out. But, back in September, we had requested a bid for our latest plumbing job. As part of the progressive remodel on our 1972 house. Jake came out to look at the job needing to be done in the main bathroom, which was pretty similar to the job Erik had done previously in the 2nd bathroom. Said he would get the bid back to us in a few days to a week. So we waited, and waited, and you get the idea. Called & emailed back & forth several times with the very nice lady Jasmine, who is the owners wife, and who handles the administrative end of things. She had attempted to find out what was taking so long on our bid. Which by this point had been 2-3 weeks, she said he told her he ""was working on it"". She apologized profusely, and said she would keep this on her radar. Another week, no bid, Jasmine stuck apologizing for Jake again. Another couple weeks, same thing. Then after well over a month, Jasmine, who I think gave up on trying to get Jake to get the bid, emailed us his phone # for us to contact Jake directly.

Good Morning,
I wanted to update you to let you know that I have yet to receive your bid from Jake for your property at ************ and have not received an eta from him.

Please feel free to call him at 816-***-**** to follow up on the status of your bid.

Thank you and I apologize that I have not been successful in getting the bid from Jake for you.

So thankful I found this company!! From the moment I first talked to Jake, he was helpful, professional, and went above and beyond to help me solve my sewer line problems. After four different people trying, Jake was the only person who was able to clear some massive tree roots from my line -- saving me from an $8,0000 sewer line replacement. Every other company that came out was ready to give up and dig up my front yard to fix it, but Jake wanted to make sure that the expense and undertaking were absolutely necessary. He explained everything to me as he tried to diagnose my main line problem and was always patient with my many questions. I am so impressed with how kind and honest he was, and would absolutely recommend this company to anyone!

They wanted to make a very simple job into a week long process. I called them to remove a faulty pressure reducing valve, which was between two shutoff valves (a real easy set-up). They wanted to reschedule appointemets to diagnose low water pressure. . . Tear apart lines and other stuff to find a clog. They emphatically told me there is no way that valve could be in error. That was the purpose of that call. . . To remove that valve. To make a long story short, I told them to remove or I'll get someone else. (I was correct) Still, only needed about 8"" of 3/4"" pipe, 2 couplers. . . But they still had to go to a store and purchase those items, and a drop light. Stating: ""if I hauled everything I needed, I'd have to haul 3 semi-truck loads of parts"". They were all about making the very simple 5 minute job into a week long project. I asked for a bid on some other stuff. . . They still haven't sent it to me. Charged $125. Thank god I was there, or they wouldn't have fixed the issue and would have milked her for all kinds of money, for a 5 minute job.

I hired Poor John's Plumbing for a large job on my property that included digging up and exposing my water line from the curb to the meter in search of a leak that the water department had notified me of. Poor John's Plumbing was the fourth company I had come out to my home. I initially spoke with Jasmine on the phone and she was very helpful in taking down the detailed information I left her regarding the issue I was having. She scheduled someone right away to come out and upon their arrival I quickly felt at ease. They are incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. The quote they gave me was reasonable and the best offer I had out of each of the companies who visited my house. The work started in a reasonable amount of time as well and they finished this huge project in only two days. My water line ended up being over 7 feet deep with complicated utilities near it. I can't even tell you how hard they worked knowing that I needed to get this issue resolved as soon as possible. Despite doing even more work than what was originally expected, they still honored their original quote and even came in under the bid. These guys are amazing and I can't even tell you how grateful I am for all their work. It's nice to know that good, hard working, honest companies still exist! They saved me so much money, time, and stress. I appreciate all they did and I highly recommend Poor John's Plumbing.

I'm usually very critical when it comes to hiring work in my home. I do most handy work myself, but plumbing is something I haven't tapped into yet. I hired Poor John's to install an anti-freeze sillcock in my garage, something I wasn't totally comfortable doing myself. I called them on a Wednesday, had a guy out on Thursday to take a look, a quote was presented to me on Friday, and the work was done the following week on the day and I had requested it be done. The contractor was professional, friendly, explained everything he did, and was done in about an hour. Great work and I will hire them again when needed!
