I encourage anyone looking for HVAC services in the Kansas City area to avoid working with Polestar Plumbing, Heating, and Air Conditioning based on the extremely disappointing and dishonest experience we had with them on June 13, 2024.

Our 14 year old home air conditioning system was having difficulty cooling our home to our preferred temperature so we called Polestar out to assess the health of our A/C and offer any repair recommendations. Their A/C repair technician, James, showed up on time and was relatively professional as he entered the home and inspected our equipment. After making a couple of recommendations regarding filters and cleaning, he noted that while the system was older it did not have any clear damage or require any significant repairs to continue working - at least in near term.

Then, his seemingly genuine advice and attitude transitioned into a heavy sales approach. He proceeded to inform us of a new environmental standard taking place in January 2025 which requires all newly installed A/C units to make use of a new type of refrigerant that is less toxic for the environment - which is true.

However, he then passionately encouraged us to replace our entire home AC system before the new standard took effect because our existing three year old furnace would not be compatible with any new A/C system after that date, and hence the furnace would have to be replaced as well, increasing our costs by some $4k or more if we were to wait. Their team then rushed estimates over to us that evening with notes to schedule right away and that they could get the A/C replaced as soon as the following morning if we agreed to terms.

Skeptical (based on common sense) I then contacted two other HVAC experts (including the team that installed our new furnace) and discovered that this advice was completely false. I called the same technician back with follow-up questions and after some poking and prodding he eventually conceded that the furnace would NOT be incompatible with the new A/C after all, and that he ""must have gotten mixed up on a very hot day"".

I can only conclude that they were just trying to scare us into spending $7,500 on a new A/C system that was completely unnecessary. And sadly, this advice seemed to roll off the technician's tongue so quickly and smoothly that it seemed as though this type of behavior is part of a broader company culture at Polestar rather than one rogue employee's maverick approach.

Predatory businesses like Polestar represent the opposite mentality that Kansas City businesses should have in serving their customers. And to cap it all off, their broadly promoted company tagline is ""It's All About the Relationship"". Sheesh.

Employees are pressured into having you pay for services you don't actually need here. An ex-employee exposed them a few years back for this, avoid at all costs.

I started using Polestar about 3 years ago to replace my HVAC system which was 20 years old and then their maintenance program every spring and fall. I was initially pleased with the installation process. However, since then, not so thrilled.

Basically, they haven't been doing all their semi-annual maintenance steps. They have nothing in writing that they can provide to a customer stating what is included in their maintenance for spring & fall. They could only tell me over the phone. One of the items that should have been performed, was cleaning out the condensation drain each time. I had maintenance performed on 05/07, then on 05/30 - guess what - the A/C stopped working and I see standing water on the unit. When they come out the next morning, the technician did a visual check of the drain and determined it was clogged. When he removed the unit's cover, there was at least 2 inches of standing water inside.

The technician vacuums out the water and clears the clog. Then comes the hard sell of things to do to prevent this from happening again for just another $1,000!! I already knew I was getting a second opinion and said to send me the estimate. Then the call comes in from the sales manager with the additional hard sales pitch that I have to do these things today and he will finance it, blah, blah, blah.

As expected with a second opinion, the things recommended would not even prevent this from happening. What would have prevented it - doing their maintenance procedures CORRECTLY!

This is the second time I've had this issue with Polestar in less than a year. I had a sewer issue last December with the hard sales call to incur $5,000+ in repairs to ""remedy"" that issue. When in reality it can be handled with annual maintenance costing $130 ish a year.

Just steer clear of these guys. They are not trustworthy and will do everything they can to upsell you leading to potentially thousands of dollars in unnecessary ""repairs"".

Be very careful who you choose to install new equipment. We had a complete system installed by Polestar two years ago & have had a lot of issues. It is not cooling again & they sent a technician out & said the coil was bad & they would replace it parts & labor under warranty but we had to pay for the coolant. Cost for 5 pounds is $875.00 for a unit that is just 2 years old. I would not recommend this company.

Avoid they will keep charging you more than they initially say from the start by wasting time looking for leaks that don't exist when your system. Its not uncommon for a system to be down a pound of 410A after 7 years. Its a great way to spend 800 dollars for some coolant to be added and they didn't even do the ac service as the tech said that the office said that I would have to wait another month. Of course they would come out and check for a leak again in 6 weeks and probably charge me another 800 dollars. Plus if the Tech gets there and hasn't eaten lunch yet they're going to eat it while they're charging you plus the 15 minutes after they he needed to take a dump. What a wonderfully company. Never again Some good companies are Mission heating and cooling , Lancaster Brothers . These are reputable companies that won't f around on you

Run away and call another small company ! My history with this company was too much.

I was introduced to this company by one of their techs, who was fine, he fixed my prior old AC. They installed my new AC system in my home. The quality of the AC/heat system is good (Rheem). However, their installers were clueless and not my original tech. They were clueless in the installation and it was not done correctly. That was 1.5 years ago. I complained to them back then, and they requested I not give a negative review and they would give me a discount on other services. I did not want to spend the energy and gave up.

However, now my thermostat went out. It is only 1.5-year-old. Polestart sent their ""senior tech"" to my house, knowing our past history. He tried to reset the thermostat and said he could not get it to work. He then tried to sell me a new Honeywell thermostat for $450. I pushed back. My current thermostat is under warrantee with Honeywell. I declined. I called Honeywell and had another AC company come out to fix the thermostat.

He found that the thermostat was not broken but had been set to off (setting zero). Unsure if this was done purposefully or by incompetence, but it was done.

Polestar has low quality work, no ethics, and should be avoided. They are scammers and should be placed under investigation and loose their business license.

My business was shut down for 3 days waiting for them. The manager kept texting me that they were on their way. Their technician overslept twice but guess what my manager did not. Look somewhere else.

Giving one star is being nice. We bought the house with an existing installation warranty for the HVAC / FURNACE warranty good through May of 2024. We happened to get the maintenance done by another HVAC company and found that the pipes had a high CO level. The Furnace was installed incorrectly not only the CO level a concern but the furnace was being taxed and would cause an early failure. Polestar installed the wrong inch PVC pipe and never installed an accelerator per the instruction manual.

First off -- When Polestar was called about the issue -- their response was --well if it was installed incorrectly, there would have been a break down of the furnace by now -- there was no concern with making things right or that we could perish due to high CO levels.

POLESTAR are liars -- and want your money. When questioned to come out and recheck the installation they asked for money. We said no, this is your installation on your dime. They came out but only measured the pipe. And confirmed all was done right.

We had the installation fixed at our cost, for peace of mind -- POLESTAR always responds by phone so that their trail isn't covered -- We emailed but they called back and told that we were taken advantage of by the other HVAC company. They also had the audacity to offer us a comp maintenance program for Polestar to take care of our equipment. Ummmm why the heck would we do that.

We had gotten several quotes ALL companies said that this installation was done wrong. STAY CLEAR of POLESTAR. They are dishonest and only want your money.

Total scammers. My AC went out on a weekend and I could not be at the house when Polestar arrived. The technician ""diagnosed"" and convinced my wife that our AC unit was extremely dangerous, and upon inspection of the air handler, the furnace was bellowing carbon monoxide into our home. He also stated that our AC unit was sparking and smoking...the worst condition he had ever seen. Polestar was there to come to the rescue however, save my family from being wiped off the planet and replace my entire system, a project manager would be calling me.

I returned home, and took a look at the unit, the fan was stuck, fan motor shot. $130 at Grainger and I was back up and running. Carbon Monoxide sensor was still reading zero. Oddly, the wires inside the wall switch were loose and had to be reinserted, I am guessing this may have been where the guy staged the sparks to support the sham and convince my wife our home should be condemned.

Everything about the interaction was sleazy. Run from this company.
