K S.I came across Pipe Works because of a very surprising boiler break (boiler was only 3 years old). A very stressful situation - not just the cost which is enough to give you heart palpitations, but also given the cold weather and urgency to replace, there's such a lack of time to do proper research for a reputable, customer-friendly and actually reliable service provider to handle the new installation (and with a bit of luck, a company you'd be happy to have remain for ongoing service).
While the boiler breaking was not great, the silver lining is that I have been so pleased with Pipe Works technicians and service operations overall. They always respond promptly and are thorough to ensure not just the immediately visible issue is being addressed but the system as a whole is operating as it should.
Each time I phone, someone answers at only a few rings and immediately goes into action to help. They're also very understanding - not rushing your explanation of the issue or acting exasperated.
Also I LOVE that for each appointment they text when the technician is on his way, and then afterwards we receive photos and written report on what was done, what needs to be done, etc. So helpful and organized and makes me feel they are also taking vested interest in tracking my home's repairs.
The technicians have all been professional and courteous. Everyone has been respectful of our home, time, etc. They are also extremely thorough, talking with me as a responsible home owner (you'd be amazed at how condescending some service providers can be).
I promise we weren't paid for this - just after searching for so long to find a company we could trust and not dread dealing with..I had to share.
Shane M.Zach did a great job on fixing our heater. Runs like a champ. He also advised us on how to make sure we stay safe with regards to carbon monoxide.
PS: he had to come back out because some air got caught in the line and our other gas appliances weren't working oddly enough. He was very apologetic and fixed the issue immediately with no charge. Great guy.
Jannese T.This is the only company I will ever use for any plumbing needs in my home. Very professional quality work, I know whenever pipe works is doing work in my home I can rest assured that it's a job well done. Mario is the best plumber ever! Makes it look easy.
We had a water heater that was leaking and since my regular plumber was unavailable, I called Pipe Works and described the leak. They were responsive and had Bob come to our house in about an hour. He appeared to be a nice young man and he informed me that the water heater had to be replaced and the only thing that could be done to prevent further water leakage from the tank was to remove and replace the unit which he could do promptly. I asked if there was anything else that could be done to stop the 50 gallons or so of water form leaking out into my house and he said no. I asked him for a quote on a replacement water heater. After seeing the quote my husband told Bob to just drain out the water heater and that we needed to think through what we wanted to do. Bob complied and drained the heater only after my husband directed him to do so. Fortunately we have 2 water heaters and could wait a day or so for our regular plumber to give us a quote, which ended up being less than half of what was quoted by Pipe Works. Not only did Bob not want to suggest an option for stopping the leak but was eager to gouge us on the replacement! Totally unethical behavior! My regular plumber came and we got 2 water heaters replaced for much less than the price of 1 from Pipe Works!
I had an emergency repair in my toilet The plumber Took advantage of the fact that the water was all over the place and we didn't have achoice and agreed to pay whatever he ask we did not get guarantee for the work because we didn't want to use a camera and additional services. We had to sign sign a form that the work has no warranty before he even
We paid almost $600 for an hour of work
Don't recommend to call them!!!!!!!
Wish I could give 0. Charged me $100.00 to replace stoppers in my toilets-each. Said they needed to be special ordered. Weren't even the right ones.
Wanted to ""rebuild my toilet tank"" for $500, and gave me quotes for various levels of service starting at $10,000. After multiple problems and visits I just had a total toilet flood and disaster.
These are incompetent crooks- avoid at all costs!
Pipe Works should be ashamed of themselves. I bought a water heater during hurricane sandy, they installed for $2100. It just broke, under warranty. So they came out to replace it. Told me it would cost $2800 upfront and then they would cut me a check for the water heater once they got the money. I asked them what the breakdown was and they said they could not really tell me, but that the water heater would be about $700-$1000 and the rest I owed in labor, which is insane!! So I called the water heater company and they said I could bring it back to where it was purchased and have another plumber install, which I did. In the end I paid, a total of $1000 and that was for the difference in price of the water heater as well as parts and labor. This company is a rip off and my parents have experienced the same thing. I would not trust them or use them.
I have a small amount of wall in a basement closet coming from an exterior wall. Based upon their website they said they have a super-sensitive microphone which is the secret to underground leak detection. It stated water makes a sound when it leaks out of a pipe though a small opening, especially if the water is under pressure. Water leakage can also cause a vibration in the water line where the leak is located. Sophisticated underground leak detection equipment utilizes a highly sensitive microphone and computerized correlation technology to isolate different sounds in the soil and locate the leak. The technician, not plumber who came to my home did not have this specialized leak detection equipment, and did not know where the leak was located and could not fix the problem.
Peggy T.Chris from PipeWorks came by today as we moved into a new home and the heat was not working on our second floor. He quickly addressed the problem and was able to answer a few other questions I had about the heating and cooling in our new home. We will work with them in the future.
Andrew D.I was very impressed with this company. We suffered a clog somewhere in the house that prevented us from using any water related utility (toilet, tub, sink, etc). Of course, this happened at 10 pm. We Googled ""Emergency plumbing services madison Nj"" and Pipe Works of Chatham came up as a prominent listing with a 24 hour hotline. That was the extent of my research. I called the number and a professional sounding woman answered and took down basic info about our problem. She said she would relay the message to the ""on call"" plumber, and that I would get a call back shortly. Amazingly, I got a call back within 5 minutes from a guy named Mike. Mike explained my options. Obviously, a service call at 11pm was going to command a premium price, so we opted to wait until a plumber would be available the next morning...which Mike said would be around 9am. That sounded great. The next morning at 7 am sharp, Pipe Works called to ask if we'd be okay with an 8 am arrival (an hour earlier than expected). Absolutely, we said. At 0750, a plumber named Dwight said he was enroute and confirmed his 8 am arrival. He showed up right on time as promised (these details are important because we always were kept informed of what their progress was,)
Dwight arrived in a very modern looking truck with an impressive array of tools and gadgets. He was patient and professional in explaining how he intended on finding the source of the clog, and he had a company issued iPad showing exactly what this service would cost....which I liked because the pricing seemed standard and not based on how ""stupid"" or desperate I looked as a customer! I signed an electric consent for him to start the job.
I'll spare you all the details, but since our house was built in 1931, it did require a bit of detective work on his part. I was wondering if the extra time spent finding the problem would jack up my bill....but it didn't. Dwight was really respectful of our home...wearing those protective shoe coverings so as not to track in dirt. He also cleaned up the work area well, restoring everything to its original condition.
It cost $379 plus tax ($403) to locate clean the affected pipe with one of thoe mechanical, rotating pipe cleaners. He even had a high resolution borescope showing me exactly where it happened, and what caused it.
Plumbing ain't cheap....it never is. So, considering all things (like madison is a high cost area, they were good about calling back, they respected my home, and they seemed competent), I thought all-in-all, it was a reasonable cost.
I would definitely use this company again.
