Hoyt L.I had a simple water heater replacement job and called Pipe Dreams because they are near neighbors and I wanted to support a small local contractor. We set a time for replacement, they had a cancellation and asked to come early, which was fine. The journeyman plumber was fine and the work was completed within 2 hours; however, then the bill comes. They charged substantially more than MY price on the heater even though they get a better price. The biggest problem was the labor... $353 for 2 hours of journeyman labor. I called and gave them an opportunity to correct the billing. They said they charge for drive time. Uh, it takes about 3 minutes to get from their driveway to mine. They could not justify the time versus the billing but also did not change the billing. It is quite a shame to look for a small local plumber to support but find a someone that I'm posting negatives about instead.
