I used Petri last year to fix a broken heating system when I was abroad (my landlord also lives abroad) I did have to follow up several times but it was the dead of winter so I figured they were busy. They fixed the issue and although the price was high, I just assumed that is what things cost. This year our heater broke again so of course I reached out to Petri since I had experience with them in the past. This time when my landlord saw the price she insisted I get a second quote. I am really glad she did. The other plumber came in significantly cheaper (even though they quoted doing more work on the system, including fixing a mistake made by Petri the previous year.)

If you are getting a quote from Petri I would highly recommend getting a second quote from another plumber, just to check if the price is fair/and the scope of work is properly quoted.

I used Petri to service our very old boiler for 3 years from 2012-2015. They also replaced our hot water heater in 2013. They were great. I also had signed up as a service member with them. In late 2015 I called them in an emergency because my boiler had put ash all over the boiler room and I was worried. They came out and said that we needed to have the flu cleaned and they don't do that so we had to call someone else. The boiler was still having problems and it turned out there was a gas leak. They came and fixed it, but the boiler wouldn't turn off when it reached temperature. So I was at home with a 9 month old in the middle of winter and it was 85 degrees! I called them multiple times and asked to speak to Michael the owner, they said he would call me back and he never did. When I talked to Chris his son, he told me to open the window. We had to hire someone else to come and fix it.

I used Petri for a heating problem because I have an off/on again feeling about how good my usual Plumber is. The problem was that the heating system did not seem to be obeying the thermostat completely closing down the system at night and overheating during warmer hours. I got great response from the dispatch people in the office and I left them the contact of my on site assistant. They hooked up with her and we got them into the building within 2 days. The guys tested the battery in my thermostat and determined it was in fact a defective thermostat not a need for a new battery. They replaced this with a Honeywell Energy Saving Programmable Thermostat, programmed it properly, and bled all the radiators they could get to on that floor. They called me when they were done, explained what they had done and sent me alot of photos of where in the building they had been (basement to see boiler) and each room where there was a radiator and the new thermostat. I appreciated that. I also appreciated the indepth invoice that had alot of notes on it. The total price was $675.19. I don't have a way to compare if this price is fair, but a Honeywell Thermostat on line is not more than $50. On my invoice ""my price"" was 337.55 and then diagnostics at $282.60. There were 2 guys on the job. I think they were there about 3 hours and driving there I don't know how long that took. I just object to the mark up on the items that NY plumbers install. I would rather they we honest about the real price of the thermostat and bill me the labor hours.

Made an appointment a day ahead of time and they canceled on two hours before schedule stating that they're behind on a job. I asked if they can come after and they said no. I was even willing to pay extra. So much for open 24 hours.

Petri tried to push me into signing off on a $3000 job that the plumber I called for a second opinion fixed for $200. What's more, the Petri crew didn't tell me there was a five-minute temporary fix that would let us turn the heat back on over a frigid January weekend while we considered the project. I guess they thought it would push us to say yes.

We were upset because they'd done careful and well-priced work for us before, so we called Chris Petri directly who would only knock the other local plumber (""I stand by my crew...you''ll be sorry"") rather than apologize or stop by to see the situation for himself.

Two stars because they did good work before, but we won't be giving them another chance.

Couldn't meet a 4 hour service window, which is ridiculous and no call to inform me that they would be late. When they arrived, the guys were super friendly and got the job done in 40 minutes, so no complaint there. Pricing was obscene, 40 min Job for $500! Would have cancelled having known how much it would cost, but couldn't afford to miss another day of work. This was a very disappointing experience that could have easily been remedied with some communication. I have no problem paying premium prices if I get premium service, but this certainly wasn't the case.

They overcharged me. The guy didn't properly seal the new pipe he put in so after about 3 months I noticed a small stain on the ceiling under neath it. I had to cut it open and call another company to fix it.

When I called petri they refused to fix it or refund me.

I basically paid 2x for plumbing and spent 2x the time on painting and drywall.

These are the facts. They wanted $95 to come look at the job. The guy showed up on Monday the 11th and looked at the job. He said, ""This is going to cost $495. What do you think of that?""

""What do I think? I think it's total BS. This is a job your competitors do for $125.""

""I agree which is why today is my last day. I'd rather sleep at night. Here's a plumber you can call. Should run you around $125-$150 tops.""

After writing the guy a check, I called the office to complain. I asked for a manager. The woman that answered asked what I was calling about so I told her. She told me that she was going to void my check right then; that her manager, Chris Petri, was away til Friday (this was a Monday) and that she'd have him call me.

When checking my bank statement online two days later I saw that the check had been deposited immediately. When I got Chris on the phone on the 15th I got some line of more total BS - something in which they apparently excel - about ""Oh, gee, golly gosh, I'll bet Susie wasn't in the office and Mary must have put that check in without speaking to Louise who was at the dentist..."" He offered a refund, promising to ""cut the check myself"", and that if I didn't have it by Monday or Tuesday (the office is blocks from my house) to give him a call. I contacted him on the 21st to tell him I hadn't received the check he promised 6 days earlier. I offered to come by and pick up the cash. He sent me a cheery email. The check came two days later.

Facts. You decide.

Here is his actual email:

""I personally put the check in our mail deposits myself on Monday morning. I wanted to ensure there was no aberrations or mistakes so I waited until our Accounts Payable was in and personally sat with her to make the check. I will let you know the exact check number you will receive when I get to my monitor to put at ease any thoughts of ambiguity."" (Note - this didn't happen either.)
""That being said I would not opposed at all for you to come into our offices for a face to face meeting so I can highlight facets of our company by which no one in this industry can match! There is a reason why we have been in business for 111 years and have had clients for over five generations!
Please let me know if you still have any questions and I would be glad to assist! ""

Great service. I received calls to advise me of the status of my appointment and when the technician would arrive. Price was confirmed before work commenced. And the technician left the bathroom cleaner than when he started. I call Petri for all my plumbing needs,

Had a pipe corrode under my sink causing a small flood. After cleaning up the water, we called Petri. They gave us a time window as to when the plumber would be there. Petri sent us emails and phone updates as to his eta. Very professional I must say. When Tom our plumber arrived before even walking in our door he put shoe covers on. Well Tom could not have been nicer. He assessed that other pipes were ready to go also, as I had suspected. He went to get the parts and a estimate (just to let you know, Petri are not a fly by night company so the the price is up there but well worth it). Also it was on a Sunday. Tom gave me the estimate which was fine with us and went to work. Tom did the work quickly and cleaned up everything. If you have a plumping emergency call Petri Plumbing
