Denita N.If there was a way to give less than one star this would definitely be given. We had a brand new heater and A/C installed last month (spent a small fortune as well). A few hours after the install we noticed water in our garage and then in our basement. The installer had moved our drain line for our water softener and when it ran it's drain cycle like it does daily it flooded our garage and FINISHED basement. We are now almost 30 days from install and our basement still has carpet ripped up, trim off the walls and an entire area that is unable to be used. We have called customer service NUMEROUS times and have NEVER RECEIVED A CALL BACK. Even after asking to speak to an owner. Oh, and the installer also turned off the water supply to our water heater (which there was no reason why it should have been turned off) so we also had no hot water for 2-3 days either, before another tech finally came out and figured that out. Their customer service department is a joke and we have never been contacted about our issues or offered any sort of compensation for our troubles. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!!
Used for plumbing services in April 2022. Do yourself a favor and get multiple quotes before committing to Peterman Brothers. The quote I received from Peterman Brothers was $18k+ more than the plumber I ended up choosing. Peterman Brothers also caused damage to my home, which had to be repaired by other companies.
In April 2022, I paid $317 for them to inspect a clogged sewage line. While roto-rooting, Peterman Brothers broke the sewage line in my crawl space. I was not informed of this, but discovered it a day later when a service member from another company was at my home. (Luckily, I have photos of before and after, showing Peterman Brothers negligent work.) When I informed Peterman Brothers of their wrongdoing, they said I would be charged service fee + materials/labor for them to return to my house.
In addition, Peterman Brothers quoted me up to $20,000 to repair sewage lines in my yard that were clogged by tree roots. They told me that if I compared this quote with other companies, it would be like ""comparing Walmart to Meijer"" and that I would find similar pricing. They felt pushy to have me commit to them on the spot. I'm glad I followed my gut to get a second opinion, because the next company quoted me $2,500, and did incredible work.
Due to the sewage line that Peterman Brothers broke, and did not inform me of, I now require crawl space remediation and also had to pay a different plumber to come and correct Peterman Brothers' shoddy work.
Following Peterman's visit to my home, I struggled to make contact with their customer service department. More than a week later, I was informed that they could either refund my visit OR pay the $800 I was quoted for crawl space remediation. I was disappointed to not have BOTH made right by Peterman Brothers.
Save yourself the time, energy, and money, and choose a different company for plumbing services.
About 9 months ago, Petermans came out to service our furnace. It ended up costing almost $900. Ok fine. Im not HVAC certified. I trusted them. Signed up for the annual member fee so that we could get routin maintenance and cleaning done. They scheduled us and came out 2 days ago for routine cleaning. This was not an appointment for anything being actively wrong with the unit. Temp is holding. No weird sounds or smells. Literally just a cleaning. The technician then hands us a quote for $5063 of repairs that had to be made. And a list of parts that needed completely replaced...3 of which they had replaced 9 months ago themselves!!! And in true scam artists fashion, the list of parts that all needed replaced or repaid mentioned no prices for said parts. Just the quantity needed and a grand total of $5063 after almost $900 was deducted for member pricing. The technician used scare tactics like ""You have a gas leak...and needs to be repaired immediately for safety reasons."" We got a second and 3rd opinion from reputable businesses. Both technicians found only one thing wrong...a job worth the grand total of a mere $114!!!! Neither technician found a gas leak at all! Funny thing is...Petermans did work on my elderly, widow mothers furnace less than a year ago and told her she had a gas leak and it needed replaced entirely immediately. Well with a husband only recently in the grave and my brothers not in state to ask...she trusted them and replaced the unit. She also trusted them when they said it was due to a carbon monoxide leak and that her homeowners insurance would cover it! However, they did not lost the carbon monoxide leak in their paperwork and insurance did NOT COVER IT! My fixed income, retired mother out over $6000!!!! We will be taking our grievances to the BBB. I have also comprised a group of 7 other individuals who have had similar situations with Peterman Brothers. Petermans preys on the elderly through the predatorial use scare tactics. I pray that nobody else falls victim to their scam artistry. I have never dealt with a business with such a collective bad review from so many individuals. How you have any positive reviews is completely beyond me. You are no better than the caretakers that abuse the disabled and elderly. Smooth talking criminals.
Tech tried to sell me on items that did not need repair. Notified office and sent two other techs. Estimate went from 3k to 1200.00. Nice guys but...asked to check and change all hot and cold water connections to sinks that needed it. When I went to replace kitchen sink the connectors were seized up. It's amazing you get many text messages asking how things went after the job but when you call and to let them know the job was not done completely you get no replies. Pretty much think they try to scam you. And no customer service. But will definitely come out and sell you the farm.
We needed our ducts cleaned in our house, and we chose Peterman to do the job after seeing an ad with a coupon in a flyer we received in the mail. $650 to clean all the ducts, no limit. 2 people came to do the work. They said ""you will never even know we were here"", meaning that they will clean up and leave the house with everything swept up and cleaned up. Not so much. Not only did they not cover anything to keep stuff from falling on the furniture, floor, etc., they didn't do much cleaning up at all. We spent at least 2 hours cleaning up after they left. And one of them left their sweatshirt in the house. We called Customer Service to complain about the service we received. We expected to receive a partial refund since they obviously did not do the job as advertised. They offered a $25 Visa gift card.....not exactly what we expected. We won't be using them again.
While their estimate was on the high side (for our bigger issue), they were fast to respond / got things running again. They were friendly & professional. Highly recommended
Stacey C.I am fairly conflicted on how I feel about Peterman Heating and Cooling now Peterman Brothers.
I have used them multiple times over the last few years. Initially I called them as my AC was out and they came out and found that it was the capacitor. They didn't have the correct one my unit needed in stock, so the tech offered that he could wire two together that would ""work"". If I wanted the correct part, it would cost an additional $100 dollars just to order it, plus the cost of the part.
The next time I had an AC problem, I called them again and the gentleman fixed the problem and offered me to join their membership program. The pricing is fair and it includes two check ups a year. He also told me that they do not charge a $100 fee to order in parts as the previous tech had told me.
Yesterday was my first check up. The gentleman they sent was very nice and said my condenser might need more coolant, but he wasn't sure they would need to send out a repair technician, he was only a maintenance technician. So today another very nice employee came and checked my unit and said yes, in fact it could use additional coolant, and he gave me the price.
I was quite shocked by the price, and looked up online the typical pricing for the type of coolant that I needed and it was a third of what I was being quoted. As I don't believe everything I read online, I called another HVAC company for a quote and they about a fourth of the price per pound.
So there it is. Very nice service people, super duper over priced on coolant even if you are a member of their service plan and that was with my discount :(
Richard V.I gave these guys a few chances and they are either incompetent or blatantly dishonest. My house is almost 100 years old on a WL city lot. A couple years ago, I called them for a blockage in the main drain line that runs to the street. They immediately wanted to sign me up for their ""subscription service"" which is a monthly fee for certain basic annual services. They said it included free annual visual inspections (snake camera) as well as flat-rate clog service ($50 I think). It was Friday, they could come right out, and I had a trip to China on Sunday, so I said I would give them a try and signed up.
They promptly came out, put the camera down and found some roots and said it would be $20,000 to excavate and replace the blocked section of main drain line.
Now, I've lived all over the country and done a lot of remodeling to my houses and for our small lot, this seemed exorbitant. Plus, the tree had been cut down a year earlier and the stump removed so the roots were probably dying and we were planning major remodeling of the driveway, so I figured this could wait. I told them I was leaving for a week-long trip to China on Sunday and needed the clog cleared, so I told them to just take care of the clog now and we'd decide on the drain line later. They agreed and worked on it for awhile, but gosh! They told me they went out 40 feet but it was just too tough of a clog! They couldn't clear it and they left!
Some detail: there is a cleanout next to the washing machine in the basement right where the main line leaves the house and there was standing water in that pipe that you could see (with the cover off). That means water was not leaving the house, but it was not to the point of overflowing the basement drains. Yet, it was certainly close to having raw sewage back up into the house! They knew this and they knew I was leaving for a week-long trip to China and the main line was blocked. This was a time bomb.
On Saturday, I rented a power plumber snake for $50. I had never used one before, but wanted to see if they were telling me the truth. The snake has 8-foot sections and I started running it out the main drain line from the same clean-out they had tried to use. On the 4th section of snake (between 24 and 32 feet), I ran into some serious resistance, but I got the snake through it and by the time all 32 feet of the snake was down the line, the standing water in the drain pipe had flushed out and it was clear sailing. I ran the snake all the way out to 80 feet, with no other blockages! Remember: they told me they went out 40 feet and just couldn't get the clog cleared. That was clearly not true. More importantly, I had never used a power plumber's snake before in my life and this took me an hour-and-a-half from start to finish. It had multiple tips and I didn't know what tip to use and had to pull the entire snake out to change tips. if an amateur can do it in an hour-and-a-half, I think a professional could have done it in 30 minutes. (I'd post the pictures, but the spray of human feces on the side of the washer/dryer is not pretty!) So, I think they deliberately left the clog, knowing my wife would have to call a few days later with sewage in the basement and nothing but the exorbitantly high $20,000 bill to replace the line!
By the way, it has been a couple years and no problems since...
...except the furnace. After my trip to China, I called them up and talked to management and told them of my experience. I told them it was appalling that their guys left standing water in the main drain line and lied to me about going out 40 feet. I also told them I thought the $20K quote was ridiculous and that I was watching them. But I did not cancel my ""subscription.""
The ""subscription"" covered not just plumbing, but HVAC, as well. They came out to annually inspect the heating and cooling. This past winter, they came out and told me the heat exchanger was cracked and it was going to be another $20,000+. Well, that can happen, but I asked the tech to show me what he had found. He said that he thought we must have had problems because the ""previous technician"" had left the over-temperature sensor out of place. He felt that was putting stress on the heat exchanger and cracked it. So, he checked all the ducts to see if we were under-sized, but he wasn't sure. (The quote person from Peterman said they were OK.)
But we have the ""subscription"" and the only ""previous technician"" that has worked on the furnace was Peterman! Hmmmm. That means it was the previous Peterman technician that either ""forgot"" to replace the sensor during the previous annual check-up (incompetence) or the technician deliberately left the sensor off to stress the heat exchanger and cause the crack (blatantly dishonest).
In either case, the entire company seems corrupt. The plumbing technicians clearly lied about the snake out to 40 feet. The HVAC technician told me the previous technician did not assemble it correctly. STAY AWAY!!
Great service. Got right to work had it done in no time. Very good customer service, showed up earlier than expected (which is best if you can't use any drains). They have a really cool customer club with some excellent value.
On top of all that, the conversation was great! Felt like I was talking to an old pal!
Had a shutoff valve for a toilet replaced. $351. Are they crazy, it took him 35min from start to finish. I feel this was price gouging. $85 for a trip charge, but I supposedly got that back with the repair.
This is the first time I have used Peterman and it will be the last. I honestly feel I should have gotten a much better price. I did give them a star for showing up on time and one for fixing it right.
