Penning plumbing installed a water heater for us a few years ago and did a good job. So when we needed a new gas line for our new dryer, I called them. They did offer the tier of services, and we chose the higher one, because you kind of feel like a cheapskate if you don't. They installEd the gas line and hookEd up the dryer. Several days later we smelled gas in the basement. I called Penning and they said they could come out in three days to check. I decided we might die by then. I called DTE better immediately. There found a large gas leak. They called Penning and demanded they come immediately to fix it. Pretty unhappy of their level of care. finding a new plumber!!

Paid for a service call, was told my main water was completely failed (not true and confirmed to be working by two other plumbers to follow him!) was also quoted 4x as others, when my ""professional"" was ready to leave my home because his quote was over... I asked him to email me these figures, and go figure... never got it. If you want to throw away almost $100 to be lied to and never get your actual quote, call Penning! :)

I had Penning come out in 2021 after my sewer pipe backed up a little in the basement. After hearing their pricing options, I opted for one of the higher tiers that included a follow-up in one year with their camera. They ""cleared"" the pipes of roots and rocks.

The following year in 2022, I had another backup. They came out, but to check but said the camera was an additional cost not under what I had paid the year before. They ""cleared"" my pipes again, but suggested I needed new sewer pipes (which they don't install themselves).

After a poor experience with Mr. Rooter ""replacing my pipes"", the City of GR came out and said I likely didn't need the pipes replaced. The pipes were 6 inches wide (Mr. Rooter replaced some with 4"" PVC per their service), but Penning uses a 2-3 inch rotary head that doesn't actually clear the pipes. At best it shaves the tips of the roots off.

An additional note: Penning doesn't look at anything without consulting and offering its tier pricing structure. Before the second pipe clear I had them work on a shower, and asked if the gentleman could quick look at the adjacent sink which clogged a few times a year. He had to check the pricing and explain the price tiers to me to even look at it. I declined, and for the time it took to go through all the pricing, he could've checked the sink (I'm sure this is an office decision and not the plumber's). All the tiers were expensive for what was being offered.

If you need your sewer pipes cleared, DO NOT call Penning. Learn from my previous lack of knowledge and call your city/municipality first.

what a ripoff! install 2 electric outlets ($10.00 ea ) Home Depot and hang a lite ( our own) 45 to 50 minutes total time. 1 person did the work, and the told us about his travels. Got the bill for over $625.00 could not believe the price. Think more than twice before you hire them as no price was given.

I was told I could only do levels of packages instead of them assessing and fixing a problem. What's worse is after choosing the ""band-aid"" package, they didn't fix anything and charged me $241. Complete waste of money and horrible service. Lastly, the rep who worked on it smiled at me and said that sucks. I left a voicemail for the owner and my call was not returned.

Needed a washer and gas dryer hook up. Guy came in and went outside coming in 20 minutes later quoting us their platinum, gold, silver, and whatever else they have (you get the gist: salesmen with windows, furnaces, roofs, etc). This company just wants your on-call money (79.00 now). Almost $2000.00 to hook up our gas dryer. We just needed some plumbing work done, and they figured it was a good time to take advantage of some unsuspecting people. Not us. we will never recommend this place. Just do some plumbing one time.

Penning replaced a water heater for me. The work was done properly, but the price was very high. I paid $1500 for the water heater installation - NOT INCLUDING the price of the water heater itself, which I purchased. There was an additional $79 charge for the initial visit to confirm that the original water heater could not be repaired. I was told this charge would be deducted from the $1500 charge but it wasn't. Had to call a couple of times to have that credited. My advice is: Don't throw away your money with this company. Use a reputable business that charges fair prices, like Kentwood Plumbing and Heating or Godwin Plumbing.

Penning Plumbing has stolen $696 from me. They came to fix my furnace, and took the defective part away. Per furnace protocols, Penning is obliged to file a warranty claim on my behalf, and have not done so. I have been promised resolution. I have been promised compensation. I have been promised four times that they would call me back and they have NEVER done so.
Multiple broken promises. No promised reimbursement. They have my money and will not return it. Do not do business with them.

About the worst company I've ever dealt with. Grossly overpriced and terrible--and I mean TERRIBLE--customer service. I can't speak lowly enough about them.
