We called Penguin with a groupon for a 'tuneup.' Fernando came out and after a half hour on the roof, told us our condenser needed cleaning at a cost of $1,000.00. He said it would take a couple hours. I asked him what the coupon covered and he said cleaning the coil and 'checking' the a.c. He said the coil wasnt that dirty but agreed to go back up and wash it off.
The next day, my husband got up on the roof, sprayed the condenser for 15 minutes and washed off the mud, and the a.c. is now working like new. Fernando also jammed our hose back on after using his sprayer, and the fitting is broken, so we are replacing it.
Amanda called me the next day to ask about the customer serve, so I told her my sad tale. She said only that he groupon covered cleaning the coil and a.c. companies always charge you for an estimate. (Not true.) She said she would report the tech to his supervisor, but since Fernando told us his father owned the company, I imagine there will be few repercussions. I doubt this is unusual for this company, and it may have helped that we were senior citizens and Fernando didnt think we could get on the roof ourselves...

I'm a retired U.S. Marine who got a great sales pitch from this company for two units that keep breaking down. I bought two air condition units for $12,000.00 on October 2014 that have stopped working the past two summers. In the summer of 2015 (first summer with the units) i had the following issues:
1. Defective TXV's on both systems that needed to be replaced.
2. Condensation was not draining properly, so the furnace had to be leveled correctly and new brass caps needed to be installed.
3. Problem with Overflow sensors and they needed to be replaced.
4. Replaced faulty Thermostat.
5. House not cooling down at night and system is running all night.
6. Units going off on their own in the middle of the night.
In the Summer of 2016 (which we are still on) I had the following issues:
1. Motor went down on one of the units and had to be replaced.
2. TXV needed to be replaced again on systems.
3. Problems with Thermostat
4. House still not cooling off.
Mr. Jay Kline, the General Manager of the company was at my house this past Monday (1 Aug 16) and assured me that he would be talking to the manufacturer about our units and get back to me the same day. He also said that someone would call me on the Thermostat. I'm still waiting on that phone call Mr. Kline.
I would really think about using this company for your air condition needs since they don't stand behind their workmanship or product. I will also be talking to my fellow brothers and sisters in the military to avoid this company.

I used this company about a month ago. My downstairs AC started blowing warm air the night before I had to leave town. Found a coupon online for a $69 service call.
Called Penguin out and the tech says the coupon is not good for after hours, although it never said that on the coupon. So, because I don't want to wait until I get back, I tell him to go ahead and check it. Now I am a do it your selfer and have repaired my AC several times, replaced motors, capacitors so I kinda know what parts cost. The tech told me the compressor capacitor went out. Because it was 11pm and nothing was open where I could get one and fix it myself, I asked him the price. It was $350. Ridiculous! I told him I know those aren't that high but his comment was ""well, we have to make a living"" Ended up paying $450 which is probably double what it should have been.

Called Penguin Air on Friday to schedule a Saturday appointment. I was advised that the call time would be between 1200 and 4pm. The tech called promptly at 1115 and was at my home by 1200. After about 40 minutes, the tech advised that he had never seen an AC unit behaving like mine was behaving. He was unable to tell me why it was not working. The tech advised he would have to get another tech to look at it, telling me it would get taken care of today (Saturday). The tech advised he would call with an ETA for the replacement tech. After 2 hours of not hearing anything from anyone at Penguin Air and sitting in a 90 plus degree house, I contacted Penguin air by telephone and was told their techs did not understand York Air Conditioners and to try someone who specialized in them. I wouldn't hire this outfit to replace a light bulb. Thanks for wasting my afternoon waiting for your return.

Very fast in coming to the house. It took less than hour and they were coming from the other end of the valley!.
Gregory, our tech, was very professional and knowledgeable and fixed our problem in no time.
I recommend using them.

they were reasonably priced. Came initially on time but when it was time for them to return to finish the job we had some snafus. The office is good about keeping you posted. Nice that they send you a picture of the technician ahead of time and call when they are on the way, so you do not need to sit at home the entire window of time. This was for a condo remodel so they came and plumbed and had to come back to finish the hook up after tile etc was done.

DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING WITH THIS COMPANY. I was really hoping I could write a positive review about this company. They came out to check our AC because it was under warranty and then pressured me into signing on for a coil replacement that still was going to cost $1650. Shorty after (5hrs) I decided we should get a 2nd opinion and called to cancel the service. They said 'not a problem and there will not be any charges'..... 8 days later, they fully charged me, I called for a refund and they are trying to charge a 20% restocking fee...ON A WARRANTIED PART!!! So RIDICULOUS.
Update: I did hear back which was appreciated but I still have not received the refund...

Now we needed the Fire Dept out, since the water pan and AC drain were incorrectly installed and all our fire alarms went off and the ceiling is leaking and filled with water. The fireman said it was one of the worse installs he's seen! After my post on 6/11, I am so furious. Please use another company and save yourself all this aggravation!!!!

We found ourselves in need of a second opinion on repairing or replacing one of our air conditioning units. We were uncomfortable with the information provided by the previous company, and several friends recommended we call Penguin Air. Steve, from Penguin, came out and gave us the bad news that we needed a new unit. Unlike the first company that came out, Steve really educated me on the options (repair vs new, pros and cons of each). I walked away knowing exactly what my options were and feeling comfortable with the decision to replace (with a much nicer unit than planned, but boy was it worth it!!!).
Jay and Fernando came out to do the install as well as some of the vent and duct repairs that Steve recommended. I'm really happy with their work and professionalism!

Woke up in the morning AC not working. Went and checked the unit the capacitor was bad. This is a simple check fan not turning, just humming take a stick push fan it starts turning your capacitor is not giving fan motor enough juice to start. This is a very simple fix, 3 wires remove old one plug in new one. Problem!! buying a capacitor. Home Depot sells them for around $10 but you have to order online & have shipped to house. I called several places with no luck. Its getting very hot in the house. Channel 3 news is on, Penguin Air sponsors Bruce's helicopter. I think this is a big company, they wont rip me off. Wrong!!! Waited all day for them to show up, understandable it is summer. Tech looked at unit 5 min. came in house said he could fix it for $406.00 I asked what was wrong with it? Bad capacitor he said. What am I to do? I told him to fix it. It took another 5 min. to fix. he explained it was because he was so good. I am assuming the $6 was for the capacitor & $400.00 For 15 min labor & travel time. I felt they took advantage of the fact my ac was out and I would have no choice but to pay there ransom. Just in response: my name is Phil not Paul Just wondering do you charge $400.00 To do a AC check up
