Vicky K.Not sure where to begin with this one. I called Payless to install a water filtration system that I had purchased (so not their equipment). I was assured by both Antoinette and Rich that Rich was a master plumber, ""best in the business"" and could absolutely do the job. So the quote was over $7k, which was outrageous, but still competitive with the other outrageous quotes I got, so I went with them. They would only accept cash, not even bank checks, so that was a clue right there. I had to go to the bank in the middle of my work day to give them 50% cash up front before they'd even start.
As far as the work itself, Rich didn't look at the instructions for the system at all (and it came with very clear instructions that I could have done myself if I had the time). He's such a master plumber, yet multiple times it was his workers that explained to him what needed to be done. I personally had to spend hours on this project overseeing his work, instead of doing my own work, which was the whole reason I hired someone else. He used the wrong kind of piping. He daisy-chained the backflow pipes so the water softener ended up flooded. He used the wrong kind of electrical box, the wrong screws for the filter attachment, the water pressure was wrong... it was ridiculous. I hired another plumber to come fix some of the work Rich did incorrectly.
Rich may be able to fix a leaky faucet, but I would never hire this company for anything beyond that.
Nina M.I called this company because of the good reviews to get an estimate to hook up a washing machine and after they set up my appointment, at the end of the call they said the quote is $125 and only payable by cash. That kinda wasn't great but I figured with their reviews being good I was going to end up using them and the $125 goes towards the job total. I didn't like that it was cash only but it's my fault for not saying anything.
They quoted me $1700+ to hook up the washer and told me $300 of that was for parts. I was shocked at that price because I already had gotten an estimate of $500 for the job but I didn't want to use the other company. There is a hot and cold supply and a drain pipe right on the wall so I don't see how the parts were $300. Even if that was the case the labor comes out to $1400, for something that should take 2-3 hours tops. Must be the best plumber on God's green earth for $700 an hour. I'm not a plumber but I do a lot of work on my house alone and I know when something is beyond outrageous.
I asked for partial refund on my $125 because the guy that came for the quote was here all of 15 minutes and they refused. I then asked for a itemized estimate of how they came up with $1700 and they refused again. Really? You can't itemized an estimate you charge $125 for? Not shady at all.
I'm not going to say don't use them, but just keep the above in mind. I gave them the money in good faith thinking they would not try to rip me off like they did.
The 2 stars are because they are very pleasant and courteous while trying to overcharge me.
After 2 H drive and they called us 3 times same day they cancel the appl for fix my bathtub leak. No professional people .God safe us.
Absolute rip off. Pushing us and reminding us 3 times to ""pay cash."" Female on the phone is extremely unprofessional. Just talks a lot, but doesn't answer direct, simple questions. Changed the price twice after initial work was done. Will NEVER use them again and recommend any other business in the area, even the big guys Lowes and JSP.
Fixed our issue, but way too expensive to call themselves ""Payless"".
The woman who organized the $75 consult was also extremely unprofessional and seemed confused about everything.
David W.Was told on the phone $85 for an estimate and any work to be done the repairman would 'follow' me to the ATM because they accept cash only, charged me $250 to clear up and issue and suggest I replace a condensate pump. Mind you, the pump is already installed and would just need to be swapped out. Okay, so they got me for $250.
I picked up a new condensate pump (only $40), would if been an easy install, just replace the hose and plug it in. I called 'Payless' and was told it would for almost $500 to install and she kept insisting cash cash cash only ad nausea. I told her I would call back.
Found another plumber, he came the next day, took him all but 10 minutes to install, charged me $125 service call. $125 vs 'Payless' $500? Why such a big difference. And the plumber I used provides full services and has insurance and workers comp, not a fly-by-nighter.
This was my first and last time using Payless Plumbing (don't be fooled by the name), but make your own conclusions.
I am sure Payless does good work, but you can find a lot better plumbers in the area that are much less expensive if you just do your research.
Very good experience. There were a few plumbing issues that we had lived with for a few months and it was time for some corrections. Rich came on time exactly as promised and repaired our toilet, bathroom drain and heating pipes (they needed purging) swiftly and completely. He also was very good at diagnosing a couple of mystery side-issues and was able to field all our questions. He also had to contend with the issues associated with our exceptionally hard water and made some good suggestions. Beyond the repairs, communication with the office was easy and reassuring - Antoinette who handles scheduling is a pro, a great listener who's clearly well seasoned and very pleasant to deal with.
