I wish I could give them no stars. I called to have them come and assess my garbage disposal thats leaking. they arrived 3.5 hours later than the estimated time and was here for 5 minutes, told me it's broken (which I knew) then said I would need purchase another. he was here 5mins and charged me $105. I called to offer a lesser price. $20 seemed fair to me. I explained that's $7 for gas since they are 10 mins from my house, $5 truck fee, and $8 for the plumbers wages (they refused to tell me his hourly rate so that's assuming he makes $40 an hr). They deemed that unfair and offered to drop to $55. When I asked how they arrived at that number they stated that's the lowest they can go. That $100 is the hourly rate. I mentioned the repair guarantee they said that I didn't ask for an estimate so the full amount is charged. Not sure what they thought I was asking for. I was being yelled at, interrupted and cursed out the entire phone call. I could also hear other staff in the background insulting me so loud it was hard to hear the person I was talking to. Extremely unprofessional!
I called first thing in the morning and someone answered hello and sounded like they were still in bed. Didn't even identify the business. When I asked if someone could come out and look at my water heater the person said they didn't have the days schedule in front of them and would call me back in 15-20 min and that they had my number. Never asked my name and never called me back. They lost my business and I won't be calling the next time I need a plumber.
Chris J.Terrible service. I had a toilet that was leaking and a busy work week such that I decided it was better to call in a plumber than fix it myself. I was charged $180 in labor to replace a supply line--a ridiculous amount for a tiny bit of work. Turns out that's not where the leak was--it was the fill valve, so when I got home later that day my bathroom was again flooded, as was my laundry room in the basement below. I called the next day to let them know they had not fixed my problem, then arranged to be home Friday, three days later, when they said they could send someone, and now they tell me they can't come today. With parts, I'm down $212.82 for absolutely nothing, and have spent more time trying to communicate with them than it would have taken to fix it myself. Shamefully bad service.
I have been using Young plumbing for several years. In May I had a leaky shower and they sent out an inexperience plumber who really botched up the job. Two months later they sent out another guy who fixed it, but it only lasted one month. Tried to get them to come out a third time, and got the brush off. The first guy did get fired but he didn't do anything right. I will not be using Young plumbing again!!!!
Our septic pipe was clogged. We hired them to unclog it and ran the camera to see the condition of the pipe. They charged us $485 and told us the pipe has holes and has to be replaced, which would cost at least three thousand dollars. We asked to talk to the guy who ran the camera through the pipe to get more information about where the holes are, how big they are, etc. We made at least five phone calls over more than a month period. They refused to let us talk to the guy. Every time they would say the owner Paul Young would call us back. At least four times he didn't, and when we asked about it they would say ""I don't know what happened."" In the end the owner did call but he couldn't answer our questions. He said he'd ask the camera guy to call us but that never happened. We were beyond frustrated.
Two months later the pipe was clogged again. This time we hired another company that charged us half the price for doing the same thing and was a lot more responsive to our inquiries. We'd never use Paul Young Plumbing again.
David C.Get an estimate or enjoy getting gouged!
Fees are outrageous and scheduling is a disaster. Plumbers on first visit were nice, but walked around and looked at things and then spend 15 minutes repairing outside spicket. Running out of time for replacing valves, so had to reschedule for five days later. Charged a full hour and then charged an additional two hours when one plumber returned. His rate was over 65% of the hourly fee they were charging for two plumbers the week prior.
Billing practices are definitely corrupt! We were over-charged by $300. They quoted us for 4-6 hours of labor, the plumbers worked for 2 hours on site, and yet we were billed for 4 hours. They've been very, very unreasonable about it and completely unprofessional. If I had a pipe burst in my house and I needed an emergency plumber and Paul Young was the nearest help I could find within 50 miles, I'd pay extra to bring someone else out here just so he doesn't get another dime of my money!
Totally agree with the previous post about corrupt billing practices - apparently this has been going on for some time. I had to report them to BBB and the Indiana Attorney General, unfortunately. They came and did work for me one week and charged $150/hr. for labor and then the next week during a different visit, I was billed at $262/hr. Similarly the first machine use charge (whatever that is) was $35 and then the second machine use charge was $150. Same machine! I also had the $5 truck use fee each time and they even charged me labor for loading the trailer to the truck first thing in the morning before they arrived at my house. Kind of hard to predict your bill when you are being charged for times when they aren't even at your house and when the hourly rate is not consistent. Buyer beware!
I would not recommend this company. I was quoted between $125 and $150 to have their crew come out and remove a blockage in my main sewer drain. The crew that arrived (arrived 2 hours late with no phone call) brought a small mechanical snake, which they sat on top of my dryer and covered my dryer in mud. They could not get the drain to work properly with the machine that they brought so a second crew was sent over. Meanwhile, the first crew tracked mud all over my house (all over my basement, my washer and dryer, and the hardwood floors leading from the front door to the basement) and rather than cleaning up their mess, they sat in my driveway in their truck smoking cigarettes waiting for the second crew to arrive. Once the proper machinery showed up, it took them 15 minutes to fix the drain, but I was billed $340 ($50 tool charge; the rest was 'labor') and I had a huge mess to clean up. Completely unprofessional.
We experienced a stoppage in our plumbing on a Friday evening, 2/6. Youngs said they were able to come out the next morning and would be there by 10am. At 9:30am, I hadn't gotten a phone call, and called to confirm everything was still ok. Turns out they weren't able to locate the person who was supposed to come, so they had to pull another crew. After a few phone calls, a team finally showed up around 11:30, snaked the drain, and got our plumbing back flowing. During that visit, we asked for a quote to replace the old cast iron pipe that was causing the problem. We got a call back on Monday, 2/9, with the quote. Then a month later, on Saturday, 3/7, same stoppage happened again. So I called Young's, explained the issue, and asked if they could come out and just replace the pipe this time. They said yes, but they wouldn't be able to come out until ""Wed, Thurs, or Friday, but they'll call and let us know when they're on their way"" I explained that a) I'd need to coordinate the time with work so I could arrange to be home for them, and b) that we had no functioning plumbing, so I'd rather not wait 5-7 days to use a toilet again. He said he'd give me a call on Monday to see what they could do. Luckily on Sunday, our plumbing started flowing again, but we still wanted to have the work done, so I waited for the phone call from Young's. Nothing. No phone call. So after a few days I called another company and arranged to have the work done with them instead. Now, today is 3/19. This morning as I'm walking to work, I get a phone call... ""Hi, is this Amanda? This is Young's plumbing and we have a crew on the way to your house."" I had never received a phone call back from them. No one had ever called to set up a time with me. As far as I know, they either forgot or were too busy to want the work.
I understand that it's busy season for plumbers, Paul Young was even recently quoted in one of the local papers saying as much. But in both times I had to deal with this company, I was pretty disappointed with the lack of professionalism/customer service. Why on earth would you send a crew out to someone's house without first making sure that time would work for the customer?! Why would you go two weeks without responding to a phone call and then assume I still want to patronize your business?!
I do have to say I was happy with the work they did for us on 2/6. The crew that showed up was very polite and apologized for the delay in arrival since the other crew member went MIA. They did the job well, were honest about the time spent, measured the pipe I needed to have replaced so they could get a quote drawn up - no issues there. But it seems like they have some serious issues with their administration and/or management of appointments and scheduling that need to be addressed!
