Dec. 2011: We called O'Neill to unclog the kitchen sink. A simple enough job and O'Neill did it in about 30 minutes, although he came at the wrong time. Without advance warning, the company charged $350. When we called to ask why it cost $700 an hour to snake a drain, the owner (Shannon O'Neill) got angry that we had questioned him. He said he used a lot of unnamed expensive gear on our sink. The bill, however, identified charges only for labor. No parts. We didn't refuse to pay. On the contrary, we just wanted to know why it cost so much and, admittedly, would have liked a more reasonable bill. But he was so furious that he vowed never to do business with us again and refused to accept any money. He said he was going to cancel the bill. He was insulting and hung up on me twice. It was a bizarre experience.
UPDATE: April 2014: Not having heard from O'Neil for 2.5 years, the company suddenly sends another bill for $350 demanding immediate payment for a bill that Shannon O'Neill said he had canceled. I gather that some customers have had good results from O'Neill. I would weigh that against the chance that you'll be overcharged, verbally abused and otherwise left unhappy by a very volatile company.
FURTHER UPDATE: April 2014: After I wrote to the company to ask about the new bill, Shannon O'Neill called me and apologized that the bill had been sent to me again. The new billing person was going through old accounts and didn't know the history of our case. Shannon was polite and acknowledged that at times he gets ""hot-headed."" It was a very nice gesture and showed very good will on his part. I offered to pay a portion of the bill; he declined to accept any money. All in all a satisfactory solution.
I cannot say enough about the quality and professionalism of Shannon and his crew. We had a recurring issue with drains in our basement backing up and needed to replace the outflow pipe. Shannon came out on a Sunday and knocked the job out to perfection. In addition, he accommodated several particular requests in order to satisfy a particular neighbor, given the work was being done right on our property line.
Shannon is the epitome of honest and genuine and provides a level of service you don't often see amongst contractors. Could not recommend O'Neill Plumbing more.
Jenn K.Shannon, who runs O'Neill plumbing, is a very honest business man. He came out to our home (was considerate enough to call when he got stuck in traffic and knew he was going to be a bit late) and looked at the plumbing problem we were having. He ended up diagnosing a problem that we could easily fix ourselves, and he didn't charge us for the visit--even though I tried to pay him. He is a good guy and a straight-up honest business owner. We will definitely be calling O'Neill plumbing when we have a plumbing problem we *can't* fix ourselves.
Our backyard sump pump needed replacement. It had gone out while we were away and there was a large pool of water behind the house. Shannon O'Neill replaced the pump. However, it never cleared up the water problem in the yard. In fact, it never drew any water at all. After pocketing some $2,500, O'Neill explained that the water had built up to the point that it would not flow to the sump pump. He asked that we pay him an additional $9,000 to build a drain to alleviate the problem. I refused, noting that he had never told us that the new sump pump would not do the job and first mentioned the additional cost after it failed to do so.
We now still have the water problem and are out $2,500.
Lolo A.Once again O'Neill plumbing came to the rescue. Excellent service. Shannon is extremely knowledgeable and will tell it like he sees it. There's no mystery in what he is offering and the price you are going to pay. We have used O'Neill for emergency situations and for larger, more complicated projects. We have been extremely satisfied each time.
Due to the great Yelp reviews, I just had O'Neill's plumbing out to replace the hot and cold water valves and box for my washing machine. They were super easy to get an appointment with, called 30 minutes before arrival, showed up on time, and did a great job replacing everything (and cleaning up after themselves). My only complaint would be the price. They arrived at 10 and left a little after 11, and to give you an idea of cost it was $250 just to come out, $150 in parts, and $500 in labor, for a total of $875. Guess I should have been a plumber!
Pete A.I have never experienced better customer service on the phone....ever! I called for a question on 2 different plumbing services I needed. Megan apologized that they did not specialize in those services but recommended individuals for each service.
Very pleased. Managed same day service with less than two-hour turnaround. Service was spot-on, quickly fixed, and provided an estimate for another job quickly at the end upon my request.
They even coordinated with my home insurance company to be sure the job would be covered and reimbursed by them.
Just very happy with the professionalism, help, and turnout across the board.
Best plumber that never came to my house. Let me explain. My shower faucet was leaking. I replaced the cartridge on my own, but that didn't stop the leak, so I contacted O'Neill Plumbing via email to request an estimate to come out and fix the problem. Shannon, the owner, called about 2 minutes after I submitted the email. He spent a good 15 minutes with me on the phone talking through possible causes and ultimately determined that the replacement cartridge I purchased, while the correct model, was not the original manufacturer's cartridge. He recommended I buy the original manufacturer part instead. Get this, after we got off the phone, he contacted the plumbing supply store and placed the part on order for me. Didn't ask him to do that, he did it on his own. Unbelievable.
Shannon is a great guy, and was seeking the least expensive and most effective way to solve the problem. I bought the original manufacturer cartridge the next day (only $30) and it stopped the leak. I was worried it was going to run me at least $250 for Shannon to come out and fix it. But because he took so much time with me on the phone to diagnose the problem, I saved a lot of money and hassle.
Shannon knows what he's talking about, and just as important, is honest and very patient. Incredible. If you need a plumber, give O'Neill plumbing a call. Fantastic plumber!
When a pipe burst in my wall, O'Neill was the first to respond to my emergency plumbing request. He arrived, turned off the water supply and laid out my repair options. As we were discussing payment, he became angry with how I responded to one of his questions regarding a check payment. He then proceeded to start yelling and cursing about how we were ungrateful, rude, and selfish people. He then stormed out of the house and was gone in his truck for a few minutes. When he returned he asked if there were any questions regarding his customer service. We told him that his language and demeanor were unprofessional and he began yelling again about not being able to see his family and us being ungrateful customers ( we paid him $250 to make the house call in the first place).
Needless to say, I will NEVER use this company again. He was completely unprofessional, unable to control his emotions, and unable to accept responsibilty for his poor behavior. Lastly, the quote he gave us for fixing the pipe was almost $1,500. Turns out, it only cost $350 to have the entire repair job completed...terrible prices and terrible customer service equals negative Yelp review.
