In the Spring of 2012, several weeks before my wife was scheduled for surgery, we began smelling an odor from the basement area. Checked the sump pumps, all ok. Checked for dead animals around the house. Nada. Then it happened, raw sewage backed up into the appropriately named slop sink.
Our neighbor, who had used O'Neill Plumbing, gave us a referral, and we quickly made a call. Shannon called back, and arranged to come by in the early evening to look at the waste line. It had collapsed and was completely blocked. He wrote a contract which we felt was fair, and whaa-laa, within a few days, he and his crew took out the old ceramic tile pipe, and installed new pvc piping to the county line.
Bottom line? We had a big problem, and O'Neill fixed it .
Since that time, we have used O'Neill Plumbing twice. And while the pricing on those services we felt tended to be on the high side, we knew it would be done to our satisfaction.
Amy M.Shannon and his team were terrific-- A month after moving into my new home, I had a sewage back-up in my basement due to shoddy work by the previous owner. Shannon arrived less than 2 hours after I called, quickly cleared the blockage, and identified the cause. The fix required excavating my newly finished basement and replacing the main waste line for the house. Shannon and his crew were efficient, professional and meticulous. Shannon walked me through every step of the process and called regularly with progress updates. He took great care to make sure every aspect of the job was done right (perfect, really) and even helped me document the shoddy workmanship by the previous owners. They finished the work on time and at the quoted price. They were respectful of my home and left everything (inside and outside my home) in perfect order-- you would never know they (or the sewage) had ever been there! Terrific work; outstanding customer service.
I was looking forward to working with O'Neill so I called and left a message. After I didn't hear back a day later I called back. I got a very unfriendly woman who seemed rushed and immediately told me they couldn't get a plumber out until Monday (today being Tuesday). She then followed up with the caveat that if I made an appointment and canceled it would be $50. I asked if most companies do this and she said ""well that how we do it."" Oh and it doesn't matter how much notice you give on the cancellation! I then asked what was the fee and she said $250 plus any additional labor or parts. Well I politely thanked her for her time and thank goodness I found A-Annandale Heating and Plumbing. They are getting a plumber out tomorrow, didn't ask for a deposit and will waive the flat fee if work is required. I will not be calling O'Neill ever again.
Shannon was incredibly helpful and talked me through, by telephone, how to repair my broken shower, without charging me a penny! I was able to reach him immediately and he was very courteous, respectful, and patient. Will try to complete the shower repair myself, but if I am not successful, I definitely would not hesitate to use Shannon for this and future projects!
Peter Z.Didn't use them, but Shannon talked to me on the phone for about 30 minutes on a Saturday night giving advice. He said it was his job and he enjoys it. Great guy, devoted to customers. Thanks.
I signed up for Yelp, just so I could rave about this guy. No joke - I call this guy at 8:39 p.m. on a Saturday night, explained my problem, and by 10:15, he was walking out my door, job done. He told me he was a ""stand-up guy"" on the phone, and I'll admit, I rolled my eyes a little bit when he said that - but then he proved it. There's a reason he pops first in search results, and it's because he's good.
not worth the star...
I called the number listed on the web site, (703) 655-0071, where these glowing reviews were listed. Gave a brief description for why I was calling. After I was blurted a flat rate of 350.00 for unclogging the tub, I asked a few questions: like military discounts, additional fees for services, contract for payments. It may have been my fault for looking around and comparing prices and rates to see which plumbing services truly were the best, but the receptionist informed me that "" I don't really care about what other services are charging, I'd be happy to talk with you about setting up an appointment but otherwise I will have to let you go."" Strange that a business wouldn't care about their competitors. Nevertheless, I thanked her for her time and hung up. Not a great way to represent interested parties or this case, potential customers.

Meant to write about my experience from earlier this summer. I had pretty significant damage in my basement due to a damaged water heater which had leaked gallons and gallons of water, two days before my sister's wedding (in which I had tons of family staying in my home), Shannon was completely flexible with my urgent schedule, while providing me a better estimate than all other local competitors in Northern Virginia. He also provided great detail for all of the work required (which I was able to verify was necessary) and helped have my basement looking like new within a few hours. Overall, would highly recommend him and his team.
Mary D.Love, love, love Shannon with O'Neill plumbing. He's really responsive and does greta work. I highly recommend him.
Jason R.The flexible water supply line to my Arlington townhouse's hot water heater split and flooded my basement. With just two hours notice on a Friday morning Shannon was at my house and was put to work. I haggled the price he quoted and immediately dropped the price 20 per cent and then did the work in half the time i expected. He showed me how to flush the water tank (something everyone should do at least once a year) and left the place clean and tidy. I would recommend him to anyone needing plumbing service. And there is a warranty on parts and labor. No brainer.
