I had an older toilet in the spare bathroom that rarely got used. It seemed like it took 10-15 minutes for the toilet to flush and refill. Since it was rarely used, I did not think about it too much. On a whim, I called Oehl Plumbing & Heating and asked if they could tell me why this toilet took so long to drain and fill. The technician had a few ideas, but stated he could only be sure by coming out and looking at it. He was very upfront about cost per hour for the service call and a trip charge for traveling. I understand in this day and age, the cost of goods/services are a little higher than they used to be. Once he arrived he assessed the toilet, gave me some choices of what we could do and gave me the option of replacing it with a newer, more efficient toilet. He tore the old toilet out, installed the new toilet, cleaned up the floor, sealed it with clear caulk because my floor is uneven and advised me not to use it until the next day. He disposed of the old toilet and materials. Aside from having a new, more efficient toilet in the bathroom, you would never know he was even here. Oehl Plumbing, Heating and Cooling definitely is not the cheapest company out there, but I am a firm believer in ""you get what you pay for"". They are very knowledgeable and will put together many options for you to choose what you want in a price range that is right for you. Thank you Mike and Oehl Plumbing & Heating for your great service.

I had the same experience as Lorrie C did six years ago. Expensive initial cost for a water heater and then the ""warranty"" invoice is $657. Don't try to discuss your invoice with the owner, Mike Even (cell 319-330-1000) because he believes that either you ""pay your invoice or work things out through the legal system."" I will never use them again, and anyone considering it should get a quote in writing for the charges prior to agreeing to anything. Poor customer service and unwilling to do the right thing to stand behind their product.

I filled out multiple online requests for a sump pump replacement on a Saturday morning. Not only was Oehls the only company to respond, they responded with a phone call within 5 min (on a Saturday). I was very pleased also that they were able to come out that Monday. The next day it began to rain unexpectedly and, out of the blue, they called to ensure that my basement was not flooded and to see if I needed them to come out that day. This was truly outstanding customer service.

Rediculous charge! Was told that plumber would cost $85.00 per hour on a warranty replacement water heater. This was put in by Oehl only three years ago and cost over $1500 then. The water heater had a 6 year warranty. It rusted through and was leaking. The replacement was ""free"" but the cost of labor and supplies was $866.00! This was supposedly due to the plumber needing help to get the old one out of the basement. They sent another plumber and charged us for two plumbers for the entire time even though the last time it only took one plumber to put it in. Tried to protest the cost and got nowhere with them. Do not use this company.

I understand most ""repair"" emergency services are expensive... and this is no exception. If you're looking to get a fair price on something or looking for decent customer service, I don't recommend this place.

I don't know a lot about furnaces, so I won't describe the issue too much, but there was something wrong with our furnace and it was an off-day (Sunday) when I called to have someone come out and take a look at it. The tech was here for maybe 15-20 minutes (if that), he removed the furnace filter, it magically started working, and he said that that was the problem. I figured I was going to pay a bit since it was OT hours, and the total was just under $150.00. (They have a 1 hour minimum, so that's what I was charged.) That's fine; it's fixed, so I'm happy.

Well, at some point during the night, it stops working and does the same thing it was doing before. I call them back, tell them the issue, and I asked the lady if they guarantee their work because I essentially just paid for a full hour of OT work for an incorrect analysis when the tech wasn't there for even half that long. She tells me they do... and then proceeds to tell me that they'll be charging me in full for coming out again and that it's basically my fault.

I didn't blame the tech initially because he made a conclusion based on what he knew, but what bugs me about this is that the customer service was such garbage. You do guarantee your work but if it turns out you're wrong you blame the customer and charge them in full anyway? After putting me on hold for a few minutes, she came back and presented me with an argument that is easily summed up by saying it was my fault for not changing the filter and that the tech told her he was standing there for 15 minutes while I got my card and he wrote down all the numbers, meaning he was there close enough to an hour to warrant the full charge. At one point, she even said that he told her it looked like we hadn't changed the filter in a couple of years. We changed it TWO MONTHS AGO. (I get that that's longer than it should be, but it's definitely no two years.)

I didn't argue with her much because 1) she wasn't making a whole lot of sense and was pretty determined to stick to her guns (meaning there was no way I was getting the time I paid for back or any sort of discount), and 2) it's winter, so what am I supposed to do? I have family and friends that are mechanics and plumbers; my next step in life is befriending an electrician who can fix major appliances.

In conclusion, be prepared for a crap shoot when you call these guys. If they're wrong the first time, YOU will be the one paying for it.
