Trudy B.Worst experience I've ever had with any company in all the 20 years I've owned my home. I called for two plumbing issues. The plumber who came to my house seemed extremely agitated. One issue was high water pressure and nothing was looked at. After he left, I called the office and said I didn't want him to come back to do any work and paid them their $110 fee to come out. I then received a receipt in the mail for the initial $110 I paid for them to come out with all kinds of exclamations saying I didn't pull a permit for my Jacuzzi. I wrote a letter to the owner in early Feb 2021 and enclosed a copy of the signed off permit way back in 2010 for the jacuzzi work. There has been no response from this company to this date. No revised receipt, no apology, nothing. I ended up having a plumbing company come out from Leominster and they fixed the water pressure problem which was due to my water heater. And might I add the company from Leominster was extremely pleasant. I will never use O.G. Croteau again. I used them in the past for a small job that's why I called them again, but it seems their customer service has definitely gone downhill.
Kevin B.Called on a Sunday at my house in ten minutes, heat back on in an hour. Very good service.
Hot water is one of life's little pleasures we tend to take for granted. In the early winter of 2019, I noticed my hot water tank was ""hissing"" and water temp was not as hot. Even after flushing the heater, the water temp was still not where it used to be. The tank was brand new when I bought the house and had a 6 year warranty. 2019 was year nine, so I could not call foul.
The goal was to get to the spring and replace the tank. In June of 2020, the water temp was getting worse, so I started shopping around. Before contacting a plumber, I shopped around at big box stores to see the prices of heaters. I figure start there as a base price of the unit would give me a foundation of what the total cost would be after labor and permit costs. I was looking at about $1000 to about $1200 after all was said and done. That range is what I budgeted for so I was okay with that.
As with any home repair project, get at least three quotes. Unless you are in dire need, never, ever go with the first quote! Let me explain.
I reached out to three plumbers in the area, O.G. Croteau Plumbing & Heating (OGCPH) included. While all were easy to reach and get quotes from, estimates were eye-opening.
Plumber #1: Quoted $1300 to $1400 and was scheduling for more than two weeks out.
Plumber #2: Quoted $1220 to $1275 and could fit me in within a few days.
OGCPH: Quoted $1100 to $1200 and could get to me within a week or so.
It was June, so if I lost hot water for a few days, no big deal. Now, remember these are *estimates* only. It is all contingent upon the size of your heater, brand, and work involved. Mine is in the middle of an unfinished basement easily accessible through the walk-in basement door with even easier access to all the piping.
After reviewing all estimates, I went with OGCPH. The ladies I dealt with were genuinely nice and responsive. We scheduled for a week out in the morning.
Now, another thing when dealing with companies is never assume the schedule is set in stone. It is easier to deal with adjustments when you have the whole day open instead of banking on the company to follow through as stated. I had the week off from work, so if anything went awry, no big deal.
That said, I get a call the day before saying they needed to reschedule for the day after the original appointment. No big deal. We rescheduled again for the morning.
The day of the appointment I was called at just after 7AM and told they had employees call out. They could not commit to a time but assured me it'd be done today. Annoying, but again, not a huge deal.
At around 1PM, two men from OGCPH arrived. I did not catch their names, but one was a gentleman in his 50s, thin. The other was a younger guy late 20s or early 30s maybe, husky build, and tattooed. Both were *very* nice and got to work instantly.
I had drained the heater the night before so that saved them 10-15 minutes. They worked expeditiously while I was upstairs tending to household cleaning.
Everything was all said and done in about an hour. Given the ease of access to my home's plumbing this was not a surprise. I was advised by the bigger guy to run the tub faucet on hot for 30-40 minutes to flush the pipes and heater. After that he said I should be all set and to call the office if I had any questions or issues.
After they left and started running the tub faucet as advised, I went to the basement to check out my new heater. OGCPH was so clean, I could not tell anything was done! The heater was working fine, and water was hot like it should be. So far I was happy.
About three days later, OGCPH called about the bill and the final total. $1005.38 was the final tally. I was supremely happy and even asked her to repeat it to make sure I heard her correctly. It was lower than their estimate and much lower than everyone else I contacted.
Due to COVID-19, payment was due over the phone via credit card. Honestly, I don't like giving my card info over the phone, but given the pandemic I understood. I also knew that OGCPH has been in business for decades, so I could trust them. A few days later, I received a nicely put together envelope with the work order, final total, and credit card receipt.
I could not be happier with this whole experience. I will admit that reading the reviews on Yelp gave me an uneasy feeling, I had to remember that Yelp and other online reviews are what they are and never the full story.
My experience was top notch with OGCPH and will gladly use them again for other plumbing needs/projects.
Just had our gas boiler serviced by Felix and he did a thorough job and gave us the info regarding things to watch for and what we should do to keep our burner in peek working order. Very positive experience.
Their plumber came to replace our faucets but didn't put in the stoppers and one of the faucets they replaced now has a leak. Plumber showed up late and they charge based on when the plumber leaves the office and when he gets back. An absolute ripoff. They will probably remove this review
Andre. D ..The biggest disaster of a company stay away from them i'm real reviewer they don't communicate and Gale who answers the phone is awful no customer service! Their manager could care less about pleasing a customer. I had to call them 3 times to get an appointment time and they just went into my home did work never called me like they were supposed to never tested my system not worth the aggravation stay away!
We awoke to a leaking water heater. After having a bad experience with another business recently I remembered being impressed with the work they did when our gas line was upgraded. I called O. G. Croteau looking for assistance in fixing my water heater. I was impressed once again by the help I got from Gail in the office, she asked all the right questions and even checked the warranty 0n a heater that another company installed. James stopped by to check out the situation and proceeded to replace my water heater without a problem. I was impressed again! They took care of my problem right away even though I wasn't a regular customer (I will be from now on). Everyone I dealt with was very professional and helpful. This could have been a terrible experience if it wasn't for the exceptional work ethic of everyone at O. G. Croteau. I have already referred them to friends and I will continue to refer them to friends and family. I hope I didn't forget to say I was impressed with O. G. Croteau.

For our last three plumbing projects, we had the excellent service provided by O.G. Croteau Plumbing. Bob and Jamie were highly efficient, knowledgeable, skilled, and personable. Highly satisfied with their work.
Just had them here an the gentleman who came today was so very helpful an really nice an kind. I will definitely be using you guys again. Thank you so much.
Neil Z.With out a doubt, they are fast, reasonable with price and knowledgeable with my modine gas heaters....
I own The Gardeners Spot , without the commitment of O.G. Croteau, we could not succeed.
