I had an appointment set up with Dave the owner ( we met on site) to camera a line. The day of the job he was a no show.... no return txt messages or phone calls. It's now a week later and neither Amy in the office ( who never answers the phone ) or Dave have returned a dozen calls and multiple txt messages.

I have called Nu pipe for waterproofing help, sewer lining, and jetting. The girl in the office is always a pleasure to speak with, and they have done a great job for me, and our company.

Ok repairs are complete, that is the good news, the estimate was the same as the final bill, (reason for the second star) but the scope of work was significantly greater than anticipated. They came out to estimate ran a camera and locator and guaranteed me they would not have to dig through my foundation to repair the line, well that was not the case, they ended up having to remove some blocks from my foundation wall and tunnel under my home, I will be cleaning the sand for months (and was the main reason I wanted to go with trenchless sewer repair), they also did not reset my toilet correctly and incorrectly installed the water feed to the toilet, luckily I am rather mechanically inclined and was able to repair the water feed and reset the toilet myself after their second attempt. The project was supposed to be done in three days, with mishaps it took a week and three days.

Horrible experience. I am purchasing houses to flip. I find a local plumber with hopes of establishing a good relationship to trust with these homes. I had no problem with the heating and cooling, roofers, electrician....can't say the same for plumber. Amy was nice, in the beginning. Received my quote, paid them half of the estimate and received a start date...and I waited. I believe it was 2 weeks beyond the date given that I had to call back and remind Amy they had the money but I had nothing to show for it, not to mention it set my carpenter back 4 weeks. Apparently, she took offense to this reminder. Dave arrived that weekend. He called when he was finished and asked for payment then. I figured since it was no problem to make me wait and cost me money, I'd let them wait to get final payment. On that following Monday, I received a voicemail from Amy at 4pm stating she was going to charge my credit card used for the down payment if she didn't hear from me by 5pm (unauthorized charge). I called her and advised her not to charge that card. I received another voicemail that Friday from Amy telling me that I needed to pay or they would be putting a lien on my house and ""that would make it difficult to sell. See you in court."" I do not recommend this company AT ALL which maybe too bad for Dave. If he had some one to organize his day, speak nicely to customers, he may do better. Amy-you may find a more fitting job away from the public. Seems like you have an issue with being friendly.

This review is for all of the homeowners out there looking for contractors who are passionate about their work, and provide service with integrity at a fair price. Sound like a tall order? I'm sure anyone who owns a home is ALWAYS looking for these qualities, and most of the time we have to be happy with finding someone who has only one of these traits: Either integrity, skilled work or a fair price. It's pretty rare to find the trifecta. Yet, Nu Pipe plumbing has ALL of these qualities... specifically the owner, David Marsh. Though he managed a great team as well.

I'll summarize my first home buying experience pre-David: home owning/ humanity in general was looking pretty bleak. I was feeling a little war torn after being forced to rush to find my first home, navigating realtors, finding unforeseen issues with my ""new"" (very old) home, and dealing with not one... but several... morally gray contractors. Probably a common story. Everyone has an agenda- I want my stuff fixed and they want as much money as they can get. The haggling process can be exhausting at best, maddening at worst. The worst of the bunch performed a waterproofing service for the former owners before I purchased the home, did a complete hack job, and then refused to honor the ""lifetime warranty"" by fixing the faulty work.

Enter David Marsh. Sometimes you meet a genuinely good person who is not only honest, but gets joy from helping others. I originally called him to quote a price on the botched waterproofing job. Instead of taking my money, he insisted on calling the owner of the ""bad"" company to explain the problems he observed in the basement, and to advocate for me. He outlined the possible steps I could take if I wanted to pursue this other company to try to get them to make the job right. With his advice and council, along with city and state complaints, I DID get this company to redo the entire basement which currently keeps water where it should be... out of the house.

Not only did David help me out, forfeiting a large amount of money since he didn't do the job himself, but he helped me fix other plumbing issues in my house. He usually does bigger jobs such as waterproofing and pipe lining/ bursting, but was happy to help with the odds and ends that needed to be completed in order for me to live in a leak free, efficient house. I somehow know I'll be calling him in the future with one of those big jobs... but at least I'll know who to call.

I can't give higher praise... D Marsh came on the scene when I needed to believe that there are honest contractors out there. He's good to his team as well, which speaks volumes. If you're looking for someone to trust, you'll get an honest answer from David Marsh and he'll probably make you laugh, too- even if your house is giving you major grief as mine was. Thanks David, and the Nu Pipe team.

P.S. ...I have to comment on the one star review that was posted. This review was based solely on the person who answered the phone. I have to wonder why someone would rate a company with only one star when they didn't have any work completed? I don't know how bad one phone call could be, but it seems a bit extreme to judge a company so poorly when services weren't even rendered. Every customer who has actually had Nu Pipe come out to work rated them highly, so I hope that those who are using Yelp to research plumbing companies keep this in mind. Since I know the quality of the person and the work, I think this rating was very misguided and quite harsh. I heard about Nu Pipe from the Nextdoor app, from happy neighbors... and now I'm a happy customer who thinks they deserve a shout out as well.

Best company ever!!! I wish there was a higher than 5 star rating I could give you! Nupipe has beyond superior customer service! I got several quotes to repair my sewer line including the city connection & they were the only company that was fairly priced. I will be a forever client & recommend them to everyone I meet! Thank you Nupipe! I can't say enough good things about you, your work & your staff!

I can only write this review based on my encounters with this company and things they have done for my roommate. My roommate will be using them for some plumbing work in the house (future) and I suspect it will be excellent work, but will update with my opinions post-work.

The reason I am writing this review early is because I feel a company like this needs some online love. They don't seem to have a lot of reviews online and though reviews don't matter much because anyone can write them, I do feel the general public can decipher who is a solid company and who is not, by a good review.

Nu Pipe was consulted because there was a water leak in the basement. Five months before the house was purchased the previous owners 'waterproofed' the basement with a company called Active Basement Waterproofing. NEVER use that company. They are scammers. If you want your money stolen, the work to be bad, get yelled at by the owner, and to have hire another company... well, I guess hire Active Basement Waterproofing. The owner is Neil David Knapp.

Active Basement Waterproofing (again NEVER use this company) essentially did the job incorrectly and not up to code and without permit. Multiple companies were consulted in order to get a solid understanding of what the correct way was. Active Basement Waterproofing failed to tube the entire perimeter, failed to drill in weep holes so water could drain, no clean outs so the system could be cleaned out if soil collects in the system, AND no connection to the sump pump so the water could flow out and not in the basement. Like... it's really common sense... water SHOULD drain out of weep holes into tube. The tube goes around the entire basement and the water flows right into the sump pump. Leaving the basement dry. This can't really happen if it wasn't actually done... ::chirp chirp::

The reason I want to highlight Nu Pipe is because the owner David Marsh (great guy), offered to be an advocate for my roommate. He identified the bad work and contacted my roomie and offered his assistance. He called the company owner, who by the way came out and yelled at the two of us previously, when asked if he could stand by his warranty. It was a longer conversation that Neil David Knapp and David Marsh had that again ended in Neil David Knapp of Active Basement raising his voice. I don't know any company who is willing to do that for customers that aren't even their customers. It really goes beyond just being nice. David Marsh of Nu Pipe had no obligation to help at all. I truly think he's just a good guy. The other several companies that came out said, ""tough luck, here's a $7,000 quote. Call us when you need work done."" That's fine. That was their job and they had no obligation to do anything more. Nu Pipe just went above and beyond and that to me leaves a positive mark.

My goal of this review is similar to how I feel about being a teacher. If you're a good person, you ultimately will be a good teacher because you are passionate about your craft. It's evident that David Marsh is a good person because he just sincerely wanted to help and advocate for my roommate to have this OTHER company do the work and do it right. Basically, honor their lifetime transferrable warranty. At one point David Marsh of Nu Pipe challenged Neil David Knapp of Active Basement Waterproofing, stating he would pay for the entire job to be redone if Active Basement could come out and show where they connected the line to the sump pump. Neil David Knapp had no response. Nu Pipe wasn't making any money on this job and they received no promises of future work. In fact, they are from Pontiac and I live in Oak Park. It's not really close so they are going out of their way literally to help us.

Nu Pipe has integrity and they clearly know that this along with good work will keep their business alive.

Based off of my handful of encounters with David Marsh of Nu Pipe and his team I can recommend him to anyone. He was referred by other residents in the community. So, really, there is no better way to get a referral than from your neighbors who have experienced quality work. I normally only go with high rated companies and look at the numbers of reviews... but after the referral from a neighbor and talking to another fellow yelper online, it was evident that they are just a good company that flies under the radar.

Update: So, just like I suspected the work was done and it was excellent. They came and worked on a number of items in the bathroom and in the basement. When there was an unexpected septic issue, David and his team took care of it. I wasn't sure about the company since they don't have tons of reviews, but sometimes you just have to go with what the neighbors in the community say. Honestly, meeting David really restored faith in two things 1. There are good contractors out there that are not trying to rip you off and 2. There are good people in the world who care about helping people.

They've done work on two properties for me. Over a year later everything is still doing great. They are fast, efficient, polite, and clean. We shopped around to several companies and their pricing was very fair.

The woman who answers the phone is an angry and miserable person. As far as Nu Pipe goes I think it's basically the only game in town. So don't expect the industry norm, $30 to $250 per foot. I welcome competition.
