Installed 11/2/13. Wife is loving the R/O under the sink and water Softener for the entire house. I'm enjoying the price paid. It's not so tough on the wallet; very reasonable price. Gage was great! Scheduling worked out for me and wife. I can see why he's in high demand. He does a great job and very professional. He even spend time cleaning up. Can't tell work was ever done except for the unit being installed where it wasn't before. I called around and did my homework. I chose Nor Cal Water and it was the right choice for me (& my family). My wife even referred Nor Cal to her friends and asked me to provide them with Gage's contact info.

Go with Gage/North Cal guys. You can't go wrong.
I shopped around, even checked with the Costco one - finally settled with North Cal. Much cheaper and Gage did a fine job. No selling just did a clean job. He did more than what we had originally discussed and made some adjustments.
Strongly recommended.
p.s. he may be hard to get on the phone but once he called back and gave me a timeslot, he stuck to it and finished the job well and on-time.

Took two weeks to get him to come out and look at my project, a softener install on an existing home. He told me he doesn't suggest bypassing outdoor hose bibs as its not necessary (something that every other water softening company said was necessary). He also said that he doesn't do that type of work since he no longer goes under houses and has enough business doing easy installs not involving crawl space.
Fair enough, but he said he'd give me a quote on installing the rest of the softener without the bypass, it's been more than a week with no response and I've emailed him and contacted him several additional times. I give up.
Only giving him the second star because he actually came by to look at my job.
Clearly he's got enough work that he doesn't need mine, but yelpers beware, if your install is in an existing home, he may not do an industry standard job and is clearly hard to get in touch with. Far from the 4+ star average he's got so far.
On the plus side, his advertised prices are fair, so if you can actually get him to do work for you, it might be worth it.

Gage installed a water softener for our home last month. Before hiring him I looked at 2 other installers, Puronics through Costco, and a local plumber (with me buying my own softener). I chose Gage because he was knowledgeable and honest, and I felt comfortable having one single contact person to deal with. He told me that my house was actually pre-plumbed, and gave me a very reasonable quote both for just installing the unit I bought from Sears, and for installing a unit he carries and recommends. He educated me on the pros and cons of each type of water softener, and left me to make my decision. A few days later, my husband and I did some research on the web and found that the water softener that he recommended actually have very good reviews, so we returned our softener to Sears and bought from him. He came out and installed it in just under 5 hours, and was very easy going about working around the mess in my garage. Not only that, he minimized the damage to my home by channeling the flush line outside of my garage, as opposed to what was proposed by the local plumber, who wanted to drill a hole through my bathroom wall and charge me 3x more, not to mention the guy wasn't even going to do the actual job himself. The end result was very clean and neat, and he explained to me his choice of pipe materials, and suggested ways I could mask the flush pipe (which I don't really mind). Everything is covered for 5 years in labor and parts, and does not cost more to maintain besides salt (unlike the Puronics system which requires you to flush out and refill the filter, costing $250 per year).
Last week (a month later), I called Gage to ask if he could come out and test my water hardness again, because I'm not feeling the slick and soft feeling that I'm supposed to get with softened water. He came out gladly and tested my water in 3 different sources, and found that my water hardness had increased since the time he installed, which is very possible because Pleasanton's Zone 7 gets their water from all kinds of sources. So he reset the hardness on my meter, and now I have beautiful soft water in my home.
I cannot recommend Gage highly enough. I'm so glad I found him on Yelp!

I called and left a message, then another about a week later. No callback at all.

I must give Gage 5+ stars. I originally had him come out to my home about 1.5 years ago to give me an exact quote, info about water filtration systems and show me where he was going to install everything. I was very cautious going forward with the installation because I wanted to fully do research in order to not harm all of the exotic plants we have at our home.
Forward to July 2013. I called Gage when I was 100% confident we were ready to move forward. To my surprise he had remembered whom I was an met me at my home the very next day to finalize all the details. Once again, we went into detail how he was going to run the plumbing, what components were included and guaranteed me the plants were not going to be risked in any way. I said lets do it.
He had to special order all the parts. Gage was willing to work around my very difficult work schedule and do the installation in the evening on a weekday. Took him a total of 2 evenings for the installation. First night, he worked until almost 11pm and second night he worked until the job was completed.
Gage has an excellent work ethic and goes far beyond to keep his customers satisfied. His pricing is extremely competitive and the quality of his work is top notch. I will be referring him to any of my friends, family or clients that need this same service. I will also be calling him again when we purchase our next home.
Thanks,
Sam in Pleasanton

Like I said before, I wish all contractors were like Gage. I had a problem with the water softener he put in almost two years ago. I called & he came the next day, repaired the equipment at no cost. He even refused the ""tip"" that I offered, saying that it's his job to fix it since he put it in. OMG! Can anyone find like a sub who is as honest and ethical as Gage? I very much doubt that.
People - look no further. Call Gage/North Cal Water if you need your water softener install or repair.

Gage is very professional. He came on time and even called when he thought he was running late. He did a great job with what we needed him to do. In fact, he went the extra mile to help us with what we need. A very knowledgeable guy, and he gave us a good deal.
If you're looking for an honest and reliable guy, Gage is the guy to go to.

I had a water heater leakage at night, so I yelped and found North Cal Water for water heater repair in Fremont. It was 10:10 pm when I called. I left a voice mail but didn't expect to get the call back until next morning. To my surprise, Gage called me only half an hour later. He said he is mainly doing water filtering work, not water heater repair. Now I remember I did hear this from his answering machine a moment ago. But since I yelped with keywords, I kind of skipped that message (my bad).
I said sorry to Gage, but he was very nice. He gave me the phone number of his friend who can help me with my water heater repair. He also helped me analyze the problem a little over the phone, and recommended me to call different people to get quote.
I think he is a very responsible and trustworthy person. If you treat your customers good (I'm not even his customer), your business can only go better and better. Thanks, Gage!

Ok, Here's the update about my water softener.
After the last call before I wrote my review in April, I wasn't giving too much hope for this business. But Gage was able to call me back the next day this time. (Yay!) This time, he showed up on time for his appointment. Explained to me well about the water softener and water filter system. And of course gave me a great deal! So I decided to go with him for this business.
On the day of installation, he again showed up on time. Installed everything and explained to me well. The service was great, we had a nice talk. I was very happy about my softener, RO system and was able to tell the difference of he water the next day.
On the side, Gage was able to help my dad for his water condition with a great deal too. And my dad was also very happy about his service.

Well, after all the nice reviews and the five stars rating, I give Nor Cal a call because I want to get a water softener. Gage did call me back DAYS after my initial call and message. Then he said he can come on the following Monday to check my water and give me a quote. Monday evening at 7pm (the appointment time), no one showed up. Called twice and left a message at my second call. No response. NOT even calling me back. 2 weeks after (today), I called again and as usual went straight to voicemail. I still wanna see if he will respond to me. I really would like to give him one more chance since he got a high rate here. But if I don't get any response back this time, I'll just skip this company and NOT recommending it to anyone. =(
