My contractor said Noritz is the best product. Price seems to reflect this statement too.

I didn't do any research and asked to install two units in different houses back in 2010. I wanted to be green, save energy and not waste resources. The road to hell is paved with good intentions to its best!

Both of the units I installed (NRC111 and NR-71SV) have been an ongoing nightmare after about 12 months of service. Based on the Noritz' customer support peeps it's all because they need to be descaled (cleansed in modern language) and high pressure blown every 10-12 months. Ok, I did that ($150 per plumber service call). Still in all, every few months the units would stop producing hot water and throw different errors, like 10, 90, 14 etc. Obviously all of these errors have explanation. It's not the heater's fault at all. Exhaust pipe is too narrow or too wide, water pressure is too high, gas pressure is too low, too much lint in the air, flute pipe needs cleaning, too many appliances running, etc etc. I got it. Noritz is simply too delicate to function near humans.

Dozen of different plumbers and contractors came to check them out and tried to tweak them. Nothing helped for more than a few months. 7 years later it got so bad that I am afraid to take shower because water will turn cold in the middle of the session. I like the idea of having a tankless water heater. I would buy a tankless water heater again. Unfortunately I developed a severe allergy to anything Noritz. Bye-bye, Noritz! It will be some other brand.

Spoke with 2 plumbers who used to install these, both said they won't anymore half of them break. My sisters broke a week ago, still no hot water (winter Iowa) after hours on hold with Noritz and three times of sending parts. Unit still under (warranty).

Update, 12/10/2017. So after spending $1100 to fix the leaking heat exchanger, I am now having an error code 16 (overheating). In addition, when looking through the viewport, only the very right side of the unit is igniting. It is making a horrible sound when starting up that can be heard throughout the house. I currently have it turned off and will once again be having the certified tech out to fix it.

Honestly, if the estim comes out to high, I'm scrapping it and buying a Rheem.

Update, 12/27/17

Had the authorized Noritz plumber out twice, once on 12/14 and once on 12/15. The first day, the plumber brought the manometer as recommended by the Noritz rep on this site and spent about two hours on the phone with Noritz working through the issue. It seemed resolved until the next morning when we had NO hot water with an error code 12 reading. The plumber then came out again and recalibrated it. Well the hot water works but there is once again an incredibly loud vibration and moaning from the unit when hot water is turned on. Now I'm out $600 in labor and still have the loud sound.

The plumber wasn't very positive about Noritz and I stood next to him as we waited on hold for about 20 minutes. Based on his comments, these are not the best units out there.

I bought a Noritz Tankless Water Heater in 11/2014 which is warrantied for 5 years. Less than 3 years later, I have water dripping everywhere and I've spent the past 2 days getting the run around about the warranty and repair parts. I've been on the phone with Noritz for 2.5 hours today, and I've been hung up on 4 times. Long story short, it's been 2 days since I've had hot water, and they're finally going to ship out parts so it's a few more days with no hot water, assuming that this patch fixes the system. Do yourself a favor and avoid Noritz products. The Tankless water heater I purchased failed to deliver up to their standards, and the customer service department is a joke. I would never recommend their products ever again, and I'll put to good use my own word of mouth advertising program warning consumers to look elsewhere.

What can I say that hasn't been said in previous reviews. I purchase my home that already came with a brand new Noritz tankless water heater model NRC-111. Everything was fine, got good hot water but 4 years into the heater it started leaking water and no more hot water. I called the company and sent them pictures, he was then able to tell what was going on and sent me the parts that needed to be replaced. Since it was under warranty there was no charge for the parts, that's fine but if you are a single woman you are clueless on what to do with the parts.
I reached out to the company one more time and asked them if they would be able to send one of their technicians to replaced the parts.
They weren't able to send a technician since the heater started having problems after a year it was out of warranty. They were able to email me a list of plumbers that charged anywhere from $400. To $600 dollars just to replace the parts bc it takes a lot of time to take out and put back the parts.
I have read all of the reviews and all of them start having the water leak pretty much around the same time 4 to 5 years and then you have to pay all that money to get it fixed.
If you purchase these type of heaters know that you will be spending hundreds of dollars or more depending on your warranty every 5 years and hard to find a plumber that knows about these tankless water heaters.

Complete Junk - Don't waste your money

We had our house completely re-plumbed and fitted with a Noritz Tank-less water heater. Then over the next 18 months:

1. Complete unit replaced with new unit
2. Motherboard replaced with updated EC motherboard on two different times, neither worked properly
3. Three visits by a Noritz authorized technician to setup the unit with factory technician on the telephone
4. Over 18 months of working unsuccessfully with Noritz

we still have the following issues

1. It takes 45 or more seconds to get warm water to the shower 9 feet above the Noritz unit
2. Water temp flucuates from luke warm to scalding over the course of taking a shower
3. Heater continues to run making funny electrical noise for an hour and half after the normal shutoff time
4. Unit has to be set at the maximum temp to even get warm water in a timely fashion
5. Yesterday, we ran out of hot water after one shower

The installation plumber blames Noritz and Noritz blames the installation plumber. Both say it has been 18 months, you are on your own.

By the way, I am not a happy customer...

Do not buy a water heater from Noritz! Our water heater is three years old and under warranty. However, they refused to replace our water heater. They only provided 5 parts that our plumber had to use to rebuilt our water heater. Therefore we were charged labor due to the intense work. If they would have just replaced the water heater (which is under warranty), we would have had to pay a dime. Don't buy one!

I'm happy with our Noritz water heater, and I'm happy with customer service. We were having a lot of trouble with the hot water turning cold after a while, and a tech came out, really cleaned and analyzed the water heater, and consulted with the experts back at Noritz. They were able to show that the problem was not in the Noritz water heater.

One thing I did learn, though: unlike with a tank water heater, you do have to run water at a moderately high flow rate, like a gallon a minute or more, because the Noritz unit has leak detection logic that causes it to stop heating water after a couple of minutes of low water flow. We can live with that!

I have had many water heaters in my time and the Noritz NR98GQ is the best water heater I've ever had. When I called into the service center for some advice on properly setting up my heater, Heather helped answer every question I had and stepped me through the whole process and I couldn't thank her more.

Do not buy a Noritz America tankless hot water heater, unless you want 18 days with no hot water! Our 7 year old Noritz tankless water heater developed a leak during an annual routine maintenance check. Instead of replacing their unit that was under warranty, Noris decided to fix the broken parts. First there were 3 broken parts then four then five over the course of 2 1/2 weeks. It took 18 days to get the parts shipped from California to Arizona. Our plumber spent 3 eight hour days on the phone with Noritz help and service. Noritz stated their service was only as good as our technician. Only when I threatened to call Jay Hassel, the president of Noritz America, did I get any immediate results the final part overnighted to Arizona. The Question the begs to be asked is why did Noritz not just replace with a new unit. The broken heater needed a gas manifold, heat exchange, and three other pieces. To add insult to injury we had to pay our plumber $700 labor to cover and put in the new parts. They spent three full days here with several serviceman on the phone to Noritz trying to repair this unit. I expect Noritz to reimburse me the $700 labor. So in conclusion never never buy a north America tankless hot water system. Do your homework there are many other brands out there that offer better service and have less complaints registered to them with the Better Business Bureau.
