Called Norblom and Amy answered the phone and we set up an appointment for the next day. Within 5 minutes she called back, there was an opening for that afternoon. Jim came out was so friendly and professional. Went over different options. From the conversation you could tell he loves working for this company, to me that is a sign of a good company. We ended up having to order a new toilet but I knew it was going to be coming, found out they make night light for toilet seats, love this because there are no outlets for a nightlight in the bathroom. It is a small thing but I love it!

Had my 15+ year old water heater replaced today by Norblom Plumbing. When I called earlier in the week with questions about the run needed for a powered damper (my previous heater had a very shallow angle), Mike had me take pictures, fully assessed my needs and set up an appt to get the water heater replaced just 3 days later. The installer arrived today - 40 mins early (but he called first and asked permission to come early) - and he had scheduled help to have him remove my old water heater and bring the new one in to the basement. They laid down painters cloth to protect my carpeted stairs and completed the job in just over an hour. My wife and I were shown how this unit works - it's damper is powered compared to my previous unit -- and all works great. The team fully cleaned up the work area and filled out my Xcel Energy rebate form for me to send in for a $150 rebate (done!).

Overall - very happy with the service, speed, friendliness. Would call them again without reservation.

Norblom Plumbing charges more than $180 per hour (Feb 2016). I like to buy and hire local and recently moved St. Paul, MN. I was looking for a plumber and saw an advertisement for Norblom Plumbing in the area newspaper. This company is located on Selby and I went against the rule of getting at least three bids knowing that contractors can be all over the place with ability and pricing. I hired them to move a laundry tub, washer and dryer, bring the sewer venting up-to-code, add a new dryer vent, and permits. On the telephone, I was told that it would cost, ""about $1,500,"" which sounded fair. A plumber showed up on time but said that the sewer venting was fine and a permit was not needed, so it would be, ""a lot less than $1,500."" At the end of the six hours that it took him, I was presented an invoice of $1,588. The plumber danced around with words when I questioned him on the bill, saying that the office decided that the work that he did was more than he thought. I paid him but because he didn't make any changes to the sewer venting, did not add the new dryer vent, and I didn't have to pay for a permit as originally quoted, I was feeling stung. After looking carefully over the invoice, I discovered that I was billed $181.50 per hour. I called the office to see if this was correct and they said that I was billed for TIME AND MATERIALS and their time is $45 on 15-minute increments. This rate was never presented in writing or verbally until after the work was completed and I never would have agreed to such a high rate. The manager said that he would speak with the people who gave me the initial quote and the plumber who did the work and then get back to me. That was two weeks ago and I have not heard from anyone at Norblom Plumbing. After researching the going rate for plumbers in St. Paul, I learned that $80-$125/hr is usual, depending on the work and ability of the plumber. I have more plumbing work and will not hire Norblom Plumbing in the future. My advise to homeowners looking to hire a plumber (or any contractor), get at least three quotes and make them tell you their TIME RATE before you agree to hire them.

I hired Norblom to clean my kitchen drain last month. They found a pipe that needed replacing in the process of the drain cleaning, so I hired them to replace the pipe. The plummer who did the work fitted the new pipes in such a way that I could not pull the spray nozzle out more than 6 inches. So he came back out to fix the issue which he did, but left the fitting between the sink and the hose completely detached. A different plummer was sent to repair that issue. He told me that the nozzle was broken and inferred that I should just buy a whole new sink. I reminded him that the nozzle was not broken before the other plummer from his company touched it. He was rude and defensive in his response asking what it would take to make me happy...like that was somehow a mystery. I told him that I wanted a spray nozzle that worked the way it did before the last service. He replaced it with a used sprayer that looks a bit old and outdated, but at least it works. I will not hire this company again.

I found Norblom via Angie's List when we were looking to have a new gas dryer installed in our home. I was blown away by the customer service that we received both pre-appointment and during. The woman on the phone was extremely professional in providing an estimate and an overview of the installation process. After calling a few other places, I ultimately decided to move forward with Norblom because they had great customer service and competitive rates. The best part was they had availability the next day!

Chris the technician barely beat me to my house after calling to let me know he was only a few minutes away. Although I was flustered that I was late, he was extremely understanding and friendly. He didn't even charge me for the few minutes that he waited!

The installation was a bit more complicated than anticipated (aren't they always?). We knew we needed to replace the old gas hookup as it was no longer compliant, but we also needed to run new duct work to the outside. Chris also explained that the hoses Best Buy provided for hookup are not even legal to use in the state. He provided a new gas hose as well as water hoses for our new washer. He rerouted the dryer vent up towards the ceiling rather than running it on the floor (which was annoying to clean around) and insulated the whole thing really well. He even hooked up the steam function between the washer and dryer and the drainage hose to our dump sink. It was all very thoughtful!

Although we ended up paying more than anticipated based on the complexity of the job and new materials required, we feel confident that Chris did a fantastic job and our dryer has been setup safely and correctly. Thanks, Norblom!

I was quoted 1,100 for a 6hr vanity rough in and water softener install. I agreed to have just the vanity hooked up and the softener would wait for another day. The plumber arrived on time but didn't introduce himself and really seemed rather unhappy about doing his job. I cringed every time he dropped his sawsall and tools on my brand new tile. Thankfully I put cardboard down to protect it. The walls were all open and pipes were easily accessible but he ended up taking 5 hrs to add a sewer line, a vent and 1 set of water lines and left a big mess for me to clean up. I was charged $1,280 for the job (900 for labor and 400 for parts). Nowhere near the time or cost I was quoted.

I called Steve who gave me the quote and he denied ever quoting me the $1,100. I asked if he thought I just made up the figure in my head and he seemed to agree...basically calling me a liar. He claimed to be right in the ballpark, however, I still have a water softener to install. I don't mind paying the money I am quoted, but their estimate was way off. I asked if there was a way to meet in middle ground to earn me as a repeat customer by finishing the softener job at a lesser rate to satisfy the quote but he refused. Apparently, they just want your money and don't care if you use them again.

Sincerely,

1st and last time customer

I checked Yelp before looking for a plumbing business to help us with an issue another company had called to our attention. Norblom had lots of ardent fans and very few less-than-positive reviews, so I called them.

When I described the problem, the nice lady on the phone said we needed to talk to a project manager. Yikes! Sounded serious. Steve and I connected after a few tries, and he was always responsive. I called on a Friday, and he got here Monday first thing. He spent quite a bit of time with me, looking at the exterior of the house, up and down three flights of stairs several times. He basically said that they would be happy to do the work we might need, but it would be very expensive and not really necessary. I wasn't charged a penny for his valuable time (25+ years of experience).

I was so impressed with his expertise, practical approach, honesty and generosity, Norblom will be the first place I call for work, and I've already shared my story with the entire neighborhood. When will all the on-a-quota, over-selling companies realize that word gets around that they care more for themselves than the customer? I bet Norblom gets more calls than anyone, and more repeat business and referrals, because their friendly, honest, practical approach appeals to hard-working, honest people of the Twin Cities. Steve, welcome to St. Paul! Because of you, your company will grow! They are fortunate to have you.

We had a shower faucet installed and a sump pump pipe drain drilled through our siding. Andrew and Phil did excellent work on both jobs! They arrived within the time frame and had both jobs completed on time. They explained the details of the products they were installing and went over warranties and gave details on how to check and observe the installs in the future. Great work, upfront pricing and priced accordingly!!!

Came out quickly with a positive attitude. Easily diagnosed the problem. Unable to fix it today, but I have an appointment for them to come back out soon. Very happy to have someone pleasant here within an hour when other plumbers I called were cranky and couldn't come until tomorrow.

I had an emergency - leaking toilet - and the first two plumbers I tried - first one never returned my call, second was booked out 3 days, so I checked yelp and picked Norblom. And this is why I love Yelp! I found a great plumbing company with minimal effort.
I added in a bunch of work I have needed doing for ages, but could live with ( dripping taps etc. ) ( Here's a tip - at $3 a minute, know what you need to say, and talk fast! I would guess I spent $45 talking to the guy! )
Anyway, Andrew turned up early ( after getting a phone call to make sure it was OK ) clearly explained the work based on my request. Did a bang-up job and left me a happy customer. I will definitely be using Norblum's for my future plumbing needs.
