I learned the value of hard work as a child, working in my grandparents' restaurant on weekends, cleaning tables and assisting customers. I continued this until I was 16; at 12, I was a newspaper delivery boy for a couple of years. At ages 13 and 14, during my summer breaks, I spent time working at my uncle's welding shop. As a young man, I apprenticed under my father in plumbing, and shortly after, I moved to Riverside for opportunities in residential new construction plumbing.

I took a year-long plumbing course at Associated Tech College in San Bernardino, where I studied plumbing codes, repairs, and system sizing. After that, I worked as an apprentice at Inland Plumbing; within a year, I earned a foreman position. I handled the installation of gas systems, drainage, venting, and water services, supervising three team members. I learned a great deal during those three years, and I feel that was where my plumbing foundation was established.
