Filters & Cleans The Home Waters Like Nobody's Business!
SITREP
The Fountain Bay Homestead completed construction this past spring, and everything since April has been touch-up and troubleshooting with the home systems since then.
THE SETUP
In reviewing systems, my uncle Gary and I have been pretty happy with the way the electrical has worked out in particular. Heating and Air have been another primary consideration since the winters in Northern Idaho get down below ZERO degrees, and that is not the time to be trying to upgrade and systain that system, so that has been squared away too.
WATER SYSTEM DEFICIENCY
The weak link in the property infrastructure is the WATER. The property's water is totally supplied by the well. In addition, the property's western exposure abuts right up to the St. Joe River. Not in itself a problem, but one that create system impact on the property grounds.
IRON SEEPAGE
The problem presents itself in one very very obvious fashion: in the master bathroom, the large jacuzzi-jet tub draws it's water (as does the kitchen and the garage sinks, and the two bathrooms) from the well.
Well, when I am setting up a nice hot jacuzzi bath for myself, and the tub fills up, there is a substantive foamy iron-colored (brown) residue that floats on top of the water, and upon drainage leaves an icky brown film all around the top, the side and bottom of the tub. And so what happens here happens in all plumbing systems throughout the homestead (and to think we were also drinking this crap - literally).
FIXING THE MINERAL LEECHING
The solutions were many, but two main ones in the end: (1) totally rebuild the well itself to protect again mineral seepage into the well water, but highly highly expensive; or, (2) put a filtration system for the water at the point of entry into the home, less costly and solving the main problem.
Going with the 2nd choice, Nick was able to hone in on a solution to preserve the integrity of potable water for the home by using a filtration system to get rid of the mineral content entering the home.
PRE-SUBCONTRACTING CONSULTATION
Nick caught things - or was able to reverse-engineer scenarios showing plumbing-deficiencies - that should have been noted in the construction phase of the homestead. But instead, here we are trying to correct a problem that should have been built correctly to begin with.
If you need the assist in the construction phase, be sure to also give Nick a hollar to check out and consult with you what you (or your plumbing contractor) may be missing, sorta like a ""2nd Opinion."" It couldn't hurt. And it would be cheaper than having to do it after the fact.
