RUN away from this company, and I don't say that lightly! I needed a HVAC and water heater replacement. They gave me a decent quote and as soon as I signed the agreement, I REGRETTED. Their customer service lies to your face, and you're never sure of the professionalism you'll get from their technicians. Two years later, the water new heater broke and they're less concerned that this is an emergency for my family. I've had other contractors for different projects and the difference in service is like day and night!
The heat stopped working Jan 27, while I was away. My wife, children and elderly mother in law were freezing. Unable to help while out of town , I scheduled an $89 appointment with Nicholson Plumbing and Heating out of Holliston, MA for the next day. The tech arrived and assessed the situation. My wife was told the unit was nonfunctional and quoted $3590 in repairs. I told the tech via phone that we needed immediate heat and not new zoning dampers and other equipment. He cautioned that IF the parts could even be sourced the repair would take MANY WEEKS, if not MONTHS and would be $1875. I again asked if anything could be done to get the furnace functional sooner. He indicated that there was not, it needed a lot of work. He then suggested a new furnace would be more cost effective and quicker to replace and that he could rush the sales team on Monday. We had no other options due to the winter temperatures. The sales rep arrived for his appointment and seemed shocked we planned to review estimates before signing a contract. He provided 3 equipment packages ranging from $23,768 to $32,315 to replace the entire HVAC system. When I returned from my trip i was able to look at the furnace. I flipped the service disconnect switch back on. The furnace attempted a normal operation cycle without lighting. One minute of searching for ""Janitrol furnace igniters"" and $25, I had the part delivered and installed in 5 minutes the next day. The furnace operates perfectly. Only 1 part identified in the $3590 repair estimate required. The remaining REQUIRED REPAIR items were unnecessary. Deceptive and fraudulent practices to OVERCHARGE/UPSELL desperate, unknowledgeable people. This furnace only needed a simple fix with an inexpensive ubiquitous part that should have been on the service truck or available at any HVAC supply. My family was left in the cold. We purchased space heaters and electric blankets to stay warm. The following weekend temperatures reached negative 8 degrees. They planned to sell us a new HVAC system instead of easily fixing only the necessary parts of our furnace. We were told that parts might not be available and that it would take weeks to months to repair while we sat in the cold. We were charged $149 instead of the $89 for the service call. I wrote a complaint email to Nicholson and was contacted by a representative from the complaint Department on February 8. I was told I would be refunded the service call fee of $149 and was offered $150 by check for my trouble. Neither of which have been completed. I asked the complaint manager if their service technicians worked on commission. She indicated that it was not a sales commission but they did have different financial incentives. These are predatory practices. BEWARE!
Unfortunately I had a plumbing emergency 2/4/23.Water was coming from my air handler, flooding my basement and the heat was not working.T requested emergency service ,however I was given an appointment March 6 2023 for service.I objected stating the emergency and was then given a date in mid Feb.Unreasonable!!!!
Background:Air conditioning unit installed by Nicholson Plumbing and Heating about 5 years ago.Commited to a monthly payment which would be used for yearly maintenance. This would also put me at ""the head of the line"" in case of an emergency or service.I was told under no circumstances would emergency service be porvided at this time.Completely unreasonable!!! I will not be using Nicholson Plumbing and Heating again!!
I can say that the service contract Nicholson offers gets you nothing really.. a big waste of money. I would not recommend it. All calls are impersonally scheduled by a call center; it is impossible to reach anyone in the Nicholson office itself. You are dealing with out of state call responders. The person I dealt with was curt and rude. My Fall service visit for my furnaces revealed a ""red"" burner condition on a followup report, but it was not brought to my attention by the servicing technician, nor was there any suggestion to fix it. While other HVAC service visits include cleaning the burners, no one from Nicholson did this or even said was a needed upkeep. As result, several months later my furnace malfunctioned and the burners were the major reason. Another HVAC service cleaned them and restored the furnace to good working condition. I have found that other local services were much better at determining problems and solutions and taking good corrective actions to save having to replace the entire unit. I would not recommend Nicholson.
Had a heat pump installed by them about two weeks ago. Following install I had to walk around my house cleaning up trash left behind by the installers. I also found a loose wire that was just hanging from my ceiling that was open on one end. I called in and they told me that it was like that when they got there. Absolute C team charging A team prices. Go elsewhere
Don't believe the billboards!
Saw an ad on a billboard on Rt 9 for a $99 boiler tuneup, so I went to their website (which looked decent) and scheduled an appointment for Nov 30. Within a couple of days I get a call that the appt has to be rescheduled to Dec 30 because their technicians are sick. Of course, by Dec 15 one of the zones in the house goes down, so I call again and their technicians are miraculously available since they can charge more than $100 just to show up. Turns out it was a loose wire, so a one minute fix, which cost more than $250. Well, at least I thought I would get the deal for the tune up. A few days later they call again and say the tune up had to be rescheduled for Feb 3 because their technicians are in the hospital!
Long story short: if you can pay their premium for showing up and their diagnostic fees, they're healthy. Otherwise, you get bumped month to month. Just bad business....
First let me say I love working with Nicholson from HVAC. I find them reasonable and I use their monthly service/insurance program. However, the plumbing is terrible. I had a bunch of issues with install/scheduling of a sink last year. A sink was previously in the spot but I have countertops replaced so I needed to have new sink re-plumbed, it cost over $700. Super expensive for what it was and they didn't even tighten the faucet.
I have lived in this house 5 years and never had the sink that was re-plumbed clogged. In the past year since they re-plumbed it's clogged twice and they don't bother to return my calls.
Finally on the 2nd clog, after I called 3x, I actually found out from a manager named Angela that they were sold and not getting their messages. She finally sent someone out, the guy sat in his car for an hour making calls (not about our job) while my husband and I waited inside for him which held us up from work. He did tighten the faucet but told us the reason the sink is clogging is because our plumbing in the basement (not where this sink is but I do understand that it probably flushes out that way) is not up to code, the house is only 10 years old so it's not out that out of code. They want $1400 to fix the basement piping.
I am not a plumber but I find it very suspicious that in 4 years the sink clogged zero times and in the past year since they re-plumbed it, it's clogged twice and I have paid on my own dime (different companies since Nicholson didn't call me back) to have it unclogged. Now they want $1400 to fix the stuff that out of code.
Called them for a plumbing issue and the customer service rep told me they could definitely come out as they had only been receiving AC/Heating calls and had plumbing technicians available. I was relieved, but then minutes later an obnoxious arrogant woman Angela called me and asked what the issue was, I told her and then she asked if I was an existing customer. And I said no... she then in a snobby voice told me that they only help their existing customers. Interesting how the customer service person told me they had plenty of techs who were available to come out. It's funny how you want to help these small businesses and feel bad for them, but with owners like this.. they just keep losing future potential customers. Will never call them again with that woman's attitude.
Genuinely god-awful. I employed Nicholson HVAC and I had Francis do the initial estimate for a gas conversion and Heat Pump installation. Right from the git-go, I had a variety of problems with them. They wouldn't help me with the National Grid paperwork, they wouldn't help me with the Mass Save rebate paperwork. After a few months of dealing with mass save on my own, I realized that Nicholson had given me an incorrect invoice for the completion date so my rebates have still not come in (non-trivial amounts of money). On top of that, the gas plumber didn't do the correct connections outside the home for the National Grid person to connect my gas line to and I lost a few days with that.
Not home-owner friendly. I would keep off them for my next project.
Had them give an estimate for a job (for which I paid). They provided three prices for three different possible repairs. After I chose the cheapest, I got a call back saying they'd talked it over and couldn't do that one. The guy was extremely unprofessional in his trying to get me to switch to a different repair option (swearing multiple times including at me).
Went with a different company.
