Newman Irrigation & Plumbing
Company Overview
Our expertise lies in drain tile, irrigation systems, and outdoor lighting.
My journey started in high school, where I serviced copper systems and advertised in the Learner Life paper. That experience is invaluable; it’s where I first learned about the effects of ice and frost lines, a concept few truly grasp.
While irrigation can be misleadingly simple, we have adapted our installation methods for ease, which is the hallmark of quality products. Your system's intricacy often reflects the installer’s ignorance, and regrettably, many do not recognize what they do not know.
A lifetime of experience distinguishes us; seasoned companies usually take twenty years to develop. In 1975, I was just 18 when I performed my first repair on a copper system. My extensive hands-on experience with different systems has shown me what endures and what does not.
Irrigation is often misunderstood; it may look straightforward, but it is far more complex. It necessitates a combination of trades and varied knowledge; no two systems are alike, and no two companies execute it identically. Getting it right the first time is essential; unfortunately, inexperienced companies often learn at the customer's expense.
We strive for ongoing advancement! Consequently, our systems are crafted to endure for a lifetime.

Great and his team did an awesome job installing our sprinkler system at a reasonable price. Highly recommend!
Greg originally seemed like a nice guy who could be trusted. They installed my irrigation and lighting system efficiently. They were a little pricey but at the time it was worth it given his initial performance.
And then I started having some problems. It seemed like whenever one of his lights had an issue it was a major hassle to have him come out. Finally after several calls to have a light replaced/repaired he sent his guy out. I explained to him that I also needed to add a few lights to the circuit. The guy never came back.
I waited several weeks (bc sometimes it can take some time for lights to come in) for him to return. Then out of the blue I get an insulting phone call from Greg. Very unprofessional. I told him why I hadn't paid the outstanding balance on the work that was done-- because the job wasn't complete! I didn't want to deal with his unprofessional Behavior so I just paid the balance. Never got the extra lights I requested.
Fast forward to the next round of faulty lights and irrigation issues and now Greg has WALKED AWAY from his warranty. What's worse is his filthy mouth and unprofessional behavior. So his guy doesn't finish the job even though they were paid and now he won't honor his warranty.
Had him do our sprinkler system. He didn't do it the correct way the first time and came back and charged us again to correct the original mistake. He is rude and arrogant. Will never use this A hole again. Don't bother writing a comment of this Newman you are a rip off !
I had them install an irrigation system for me in fall 2018. We love the system. We had gotten estimates from two other companies and they were all pretty close in price. The big difference is this system does not require any blow out before winter. You just flip two switches inside the house in winter to shut it down and allow any extra water to drain out. You do the opposite in the spring once the risk of frost is over. We've had zero issues with this system.
They were recommended by a local irrigation maintenance company who said Newman uses the best quality parts.
They seem to be a smaller operation than the other two places I considered, so I sometimes had to leave a message and wait for a call back instead of getting a live receptionist. Not a big deal to me.
They did almost the entire install in one day but needed a little time on a second day to finish up. The people doing the work were extremely clean with how they did the system. The indoor plumbing and electrical look to be well done. The outdoor trenching left very small marks in the yard that were completely gone after a few weeks. The sprinkler heads cover every part of the lawn and plants.
The zones were all set up to be easily adjusted separately. There is a wifi module so I can use the rainbird app to control and adjust everything from my phone. I find it easier than adjusting it directly on the rainbird controller in our garage like I had to do with the system at my previous home, but rainbirds app is sometimes a bit slow. For most people, once it is setup, you never need to touch anything, but I like to change how long certain zones with vegetables growing get watered during different times of the summer.
The system does automatically adjust watering times based on the weather forecast as well as has the required gutter shutoff if it is raining when it is scheduled to water.
My favorite part of the system are the pot sprinklers. One of the zones has 8 pot sprinklers that can be adjusted to water each of our potted plants. It is so much easier than having to water them by hand and each one is adjustable to spray different amounts or be off completely.
Since getting the system, our lawn looks great and the garden areas have never done better. I'm very happy with our decision.
I had been doing business with Newman for over 20 years and was told to find someone else as they claim not to have made any money on the last project they did for me. No wonder they were slow to respond to my recent calls. Keeping long-time customers is not a priority for this business.
Kristen O.Greg has installed irrigation systems at two homes for us. He also did lighting at our current home.
We are very happy with the irrigation system and services to maintain them. Greg has been responsive and visited or sent competent staff member whenever we needed work done, such as repair landscaper caused damage.
The lighting he installed in our back yard is gorgeous! Everyone who visits out home comments on how beautiful our garden looks with the lighting.
S L.I personally had a great experience with Newman plumbing. He is one of the very few people who put in self draining sprinkler systems in Chicagoland. He installed the RPZ valve indoors so you don't have to hire someone to come twice a season to activate and deactivate. He uses a computer program to lay out where to put the heads. I just told him I wanted every part of out lawn irrigated. He also put in some heads for my wife's garden.
We liked him so much we also hired him to put in a water powered back up sump pump.
I originally picked him from Angie's List, but I felt compelled to write a review. I found him to be honest. He isn't the cheapest, but that wasn't what I was looking for. I also live in Glenview, so it's nice to have him local.
Newman Irrigation is wonderful! We have extensive gardens on our quarter acre lot; it was a complicated installation that required quite a bit of hand digging. Greg and his crew did amazing work - even along the fence with numerous close plantings, they were very careful. Greg programmed the system and showed us how to use it. No extra charge for a rain sensor either. The system is fully guaranteed for 5 solid years. Newman is a small local firm that has been in business for decades. It's easy to see why they have done so well - they are small enough to really take pride in their work. Other companies told me I'd have to move a lot of plants, charged more, and wanted to charge for turning off the system in the fall and turning it on in the spring to the tune of $150 - $200 per year. Greg set things up so we could do it ourselves which is a huge savings over time. We have had the system for several weeks now and could not be more thrilled.
Stuart R.My wife wanted a sprinkler system installed when we bought the house. Newman got the call. He put the pump right next to the corner of the foundation next to a downspout drain and when it failed it flooded the foundation and caused a basement flood. The lawn crew did a nice install but the electrical part was sloppy and amateurish-poor routing of the wiring, etc. Stay away from this guy. There are dozens of reputable sprinkler companies out there who will do a much better job for you and provide high quality customer service over the long haul. Life's too short to have to deal with companies like this.
Samantha H.Newman Irrigation provides service promptly, honestly, at a reasonable fee, and does a great job. Our family has used them at two different homes. Greg Newman put in our sprinkler system at a previous home. When we built a new home, we insisted that he put in the sprinkler system, even though the landscape guy who was putting in the lawn and some trees offered to do it. We also had Newman Irrigation put in our lighting, and they did a great job with that also.
