So lucky to have found Mr. Nelson and his team for installing a backwater valve / backflow preventer on our sewer line to prevent future backwater flooding of our English basement unit in our Capitol Hill home. He was super responsive and got a DCRA permit and a team out for the installation that week, and did the job in one day. It was a fair price of $4800, and he was able to do it outside the basement in front of the basement door, rather than go in through the floor of the basement inside, which would have meant we would have to bring someone in to re-tile the interior floor. He was good at problem solving, and was on the phone with DCRA to discuss what to do with the junction of the storm water and sewage lines. Normally, DC Water (the utility) has a rebate program for installing a backwater valve, but because we didn't own the house until shortly after a major backwater flooding incident, we didn't have the records DC Water said they needed to justify the rebate (the whole process with DC Water was quite frustrating). At least Mr. Nelson gave us a fair price and did a great job, so now we can prevent this from happening again. I highly recommend him. We also had him fix a few other plumbing issues the next week because he was so good and knowledgeable.

Our drain backed up and left our basement a mess. Since this happened on a Sunday evening, we called a local handyman for help. He tried to snake the drain but couldn't find the obstruction. The next morning I did a search on Angie's list for a licensed plumber and promptly got a call from Will Nelson. He sent a plumber (a sincerely nice guy named Drew) to our home that same afternoon, and when Drew couldn't auger out the obstruction, Will contacted DC WASA on our behalf. DC WASA sent a crew that resolved the problem within 24 hours. Will's final statement was quite reasonable, and we really appreciated his calm, professional manner. While we hope we won't need any plumbing work for a while, we will definitely call Nelson Plumbing if we do.

The NELSON PLUMBING came at the appointed time to fix the drain at the entrance of our basement. The asking price to do the job was $250.00 but provided a senior citizen's discount. Net Charge: $200.00
He sent a young man to do the job but experienced a problem and was
unable to complete the job. I told Mr. Nelson on the phone that years ago someone snaked the drain and broke something. With that statement, Mr. Nelson told me that they have to break the concrete around the drain and it will cost me $4,500.00. I told him I did not have that money and could he give a lower assessment and he offered $4,000.00. I then asked if he could provide a payment plan. He said he could not as he needs the money. He then told me to pay $150.00 for the undone work of his staff. I was a bit bothered but paid anyways.
I decided to call LYN SCHILLING, owner of UNEEDA PLUMBING who have done fantastic work for us in the past. I have no idea why I called the NELSON PLUMBING instead of UNEEDA. It was a big mistake not to call UNEEDA. I told LYN SCHILLING about the case or broken snake years ago. Guess what? he did not encounter the problem the Nelson's worker had. Our drain was fixed without a snag and it is in perfect shape now. LYNN did not tell me or suggest to tear down the concrete
steps and then hit me with $4,500.00 charge and redo it for what?Several thousands more? These scenario for someone unable to do the job and then offered $4,500 to tear the concrete steps smells dishonesty. This is why people feels being taken advantage of by plumbers, electricians, handyman, etc. specially if the person seeking assistance is a woman and elderly. I have enough experience with workers who have NO qualms of taking advantage of their unsuspecting and trusting clients. Best to get recommendations from your friends and neighbors...not on line recommendation. This particular case is so bothersome because NELSON PLUMBING is highly recommended by ANGIE'S LIST where I got its name.

UNEEDA PLUMBING'S CHARGE FOR A PERFECT JOB WAS $200.00
and LYN SCHILLING, UNEEDA's OWNER WHO ALSO SUPERVISED HIS WORKER, RECOMMENDED TO MAKE SURE LEAVES AND DEBRIS ARE REMOVED SO IT DOES NOT GET INTO THE DRAIN THAT CAUSE
CLOGGING PROBLEMS.

I feel that the worker of Mr. Nelson may not have the expertise of the UNEEDA PLUMBING....and he should not be charging his unfinished
work at $150.00. The most they could charge is $50.00 for travel fee.
I give the NELSON PLUMBING ONE STAR or even ZERO AND WILL NOT RECOMMEND NELSON PLUMBING TO ANYONE. SORRY THAT ANGIE'S LIST GAVE THIS COMPANY A PERFECT SCORE!

Great service!! Very nice and courteous. Arrives on time. Great communication.
I needed my wax ring replaced on my toilet. Came out the next day and helped with that. I noticed a small amount of water coming out of the base of the toilet about 3 weeks later. I called and they came out the very next day. The plumber couldn't see any problems to prevent any further issues he added an additional wax ring. It has been a week later and there has been no issues. I would definitely use Nelson Plumbing for any plumbing needs.

I called Nelson Plumbing Construction for an emergency plumbing job. My kitchen sink was leaking water and making a huge mess. I expressed to Mr. Nelson the urgency and how important it was for him to send someone and not have me take off work only to sit all day and no one show up, thereby missing a day of work. He assured me that would not be a problem. I received a call before the worker came, to notify me when he'd arrive and then a call when the worker was outside. Happily, he sent Darrell to my home. He was cordial, very professional and despite the problems my husband caused with his bad behavior, Darrell stayed and successfully completed the job. He even wiped up a bit, after he was done. The price, to me, seemed reasonable. The charge was $600. In spite of the harassment my spouse caused, which would NEVER happen again ... I hope to be able to work with this company again. Darrell removed and replaced a broken garbage disposal and removed and replaced a leaking kitchen faucet. I would have given this review 5 stars but there was one thing that needed to be done that Darrell was supposed to do, but never returned to do, and now I have to try to do myself, although, I have to say, I can't blame him for not returning. Thank you Nelson Plumbing Construction for such a good job. I'd definitely recommend this company.

After deciding that a water heater replacement was above my abilities, I called in Nelson. They had excellent pricing and did the job well. Service was also great. The water heater I had provided was damaged. Not only did they go over the risks of using it, they personally loaded it up and took it to the store with me to get a replacement. We picked a new one out together and they drove me back home to install the new one. Despite this taking several hours longer than normal, and having to drive me 20 minutes each way, they kept their price the same.

Quality work, low prices, and honesty.

I had a with my hot water heater - no hot water. Mr. Nelson responded quickly, and checked it out. He hit the reset switch, told me the water heater's age & said the fix would hold for a week or perhaps a few months. He didn't put any pressure on me to replace the heater but did agree that it seemed as if my water heater was sending out a distress signal. He replaced the old heater with a new one & hauled away the clunker! Great service.
