The remaining sibling, Anton Nelson, carried on the business, progressively expanding its services to cover sewer repair and maintenance, along with plumbing installation and repair. The year 1958 marked the establishment of Nelson Bros. in Royal Oak, Michigan, where it happily continues to serve the community today.
The fourth generation of ownership belongs to Nicol at Nelson Bros. Sewer & Plumbing, Inc. We had a small problem, no great emergency.
Our bathtub faucet has been dripping a little.
So we scheduled an appointment for this last Friday, between 3:00 and 5:00.
My husband had to take time off work to wait for the plumber, since we generally don't get home from work until around 5:30.
So the gentleman finally arrived at 6:00. He looked at the faucet and said it will be $300+ to fix or $500 + to replace. We opted for the repair, but he said there's no way to get parts this late on a Friday. We'll need to call and schedule an appointment.
We said, we did, this is our appointment.
No such luck.
Looking for a new plumber now.
Wendy T.You know, I've been a customer of Nelson Brothers for a couple of decades. I had a really unsatisfactory experience with them yesterday, however, which has removed them from my call list. It took a week to get an appointment to have a toilet fixed. Okay: things are busy. I get it. My tenant took a day off work to be home. I got a text that the plumber was a no-show. When I got back home there was a call on my phone: plumber assumed because I didn't answer that no one was home. Could I please reschedule? Bummer: tenant lost a day's work. I called to reschedule and was told that until I submitted a valid credit card, the appointment would not be booked. I'm sorry: not gonna happen. I understand that you are trying to protect your business, but you are way outside of normal business practices. Because of that you have permanently lost my business.
A few months ago, I had the valve to my dishwasher fix but after a couple of uses, my dishwasher was leaking water into my basement. I had them come out to make sure it wasn't anything that they did. Come to find out it was another issues and charged me the service fee for 10 minutes of work.
Overall they're quality of work is good but they do not care about customer service. I'm unsure if I will use them again.
When Nelson Plumbing was working in the street directly in front of my house, they blocked my driveway several times. Each time I had to ask them to move, they were very unprofessional and rude to me. The one guy even through his hands in the air and yelled at me saying he can't move the giant tractor blocking my driveway until his co worker was finished with what he was doing. The third time I was trying to leave my driveway, my car scrapped against their road closed sign and scratched the whole side of my car, as they could not be bother to give me adequate space to leave my driveway. Initially, my husband called Nelson's to discuss this, and a lady by the name of Nichole had the audacity to laugh on the phone while saying ""I'm not exactly sure what you want me to do about this."" The following day, I called back myself to discuss things, basically just searching for an apology and Nichole just gave me the number to speak with the worker (Doug) who was present during the incident. While talking with Doug, his story changed numerous times as he tried to continuously blame the incident on me, even went as far as calling me a bad driver and saying I was too impatient, and at one point he even denied knowing that I was backing out of my driveway. Rather than a simple apology, he chose to take the defensive route and even said he should not be held responsible for the repairs, even though I never mentioned that. Had he bothered to listen to me, (or had Nichole listened to my husband) they would have known a sincere apology would have been more than enough.
Not to mention their poor quality of work. Now that the job is ""finished"" they filled the hole back in with dirt and put pavement down. Not only did they not bother to smooth it out (we watched them pour it, pack it with a tractor and leave) they also did not leave any caution, wet pavement signs. After they left cars continued to drive over it, leaving car tracks in the fresh pavement and also causing it to be scattered throughout the street (and on the cars passing by)
Sorry for the long story, but honestly the way this company conducts themselves is a shame for a company that has been family owned for four generations according to their website.
We had an emergency plumbing problem which as usual was at the most inconvenient time available which in our case was 2020 New Years Eve late in the afternoon Thursday. After futile attempts to make a temporary repair ourselves we broke down and call Nelson Brothers about 7:30 that evening. When Mark called back he explained that Friday - Mon were all an emergency charge and that Friday was additional because of the holiday. We asked if he could come Thursday night and he was at the house within an hour and by 9:45 everything was complete for a fair price. We've used Nelson Brothers for years and this is the reason why.
I really wanted to give a positive review for this company. The work performed was satisfactory however, the plumber that arrived at my house was aggravated to be here. He continually insulted the quality and craftsmanship of the prior plumbing work in my home and the product he was paid to install, as well as my Decor. , This is very inappropriate and completely unprofessional. Not to mention the hidden charges that were not disclosed when I called to make the appointment. I will not be using them again.
Absolutely terrible service !!! Incompetent and zero follow through ! Used to be good plumbers, but This year I had them out twice to identify / confirm a leak. The first guy confirmed the one I had identified, and rigged the toilet so it wouldn't leak, but left it inoperable (didn't attempt to use the shutoff valve). He said parts needed-- did not hear back from him. I found a second leak at an outside faucet. Called the company and they sent out Rick (Service Manager) he agreed parts needed for toilet and brushed off the outside leak and didn't follow up with that either. (I fixed that one), but again no follow through. Called again; no follow through, called again. Rick gave estimates, then no follow through. Rick didn't even realize (though I specifically told him... AND he examined it himself), that I needed a wall-mounted (not floor-mounted) toilet. Again no follow through called again; no follow through. Promises, no results ! I used the shutoff valve, and now I have family visitors, who have to use the shutoff valve after every flush, but of course it leaks when the water is turned on, so now ceiling tiles have fallen off in the family room below. Absolutely incompetent, irresponsible, poorly managed company.
Mike B.Excellent work, professional service, and a fair price. I had Nelson Brothers come out to shut off a natural gas pipe that extended from my basement to the front and back yards, while also installing new, safer piping in my basement. They explained the work they were doing, provided recommendations, did their work efficiently, cleaned up, and completed on time. Couldn't ask for anything more!
Todd O.They are always professional and prompt. I use them each year to clean out roots from our run out to the sewers.
Jeremy N.Awesome service, especially in times of crisis! They're very knowledgeable and have great prices.
We've had Nelson Brothers come out multiple times for various issues in our rental house.
We had an issue where our garbage disposal was leaking when we first moved in. They did some investigating and found out that a connector piece was dislodged by the force of the disposal turning on. They put on a stronger piece and resealed it. We haven't had an issue with it since.
Another issue was with our dishwasher. We ordered a new one but because it was so far away from the sink, Home Depot couldn't hook it up. We called Nelson Brothers up and they came out and shimmied the tubing hook up behind the cabinets and through the drawer to get it to hook up properly. It's a crazy set up, but they made it work.
Another issue was where the garbage disposal entirely stopped working. The blade came off and went down the pipes. They came by and replaced the entire thing and let us tested. It worked perfectly on the first try.
Another issue, which is hopefully our last, was our hot water tank stopped working. We couldn't reignite it and when they came over and somehow found a way to reignite it, the flame wouldn't stay lit. They came back the following day and replaced the igniter and valve and it started working again. Mind you, this issue was during the COVID 19 chaos, and they were very professional and wore protective gear when entering our home.
We definitely appreciate the expert service we get from Nelson Brothers!
