I was out of town when my tenant called because the toilet tank was leaking. They called My Plumber because of a friend's referral. During the inspection a toilet tank bolt was discovered to be corroded and broken and a small chip was found around the hole. The chip was described as a fracture in the tank and Quinton, the plumber, recommended a new toilet with the cost of $750.00. I asked about buying a new tank and he stated that he wasn't sure about availability. I asked him to replace the ""bolts"" attaching the tank to the toilet and see if the leak was resolved. He also installed a flushing handle to the tank, that was previously purchased by the tenant.

Upon returning from my trip, I contacted the tenant to inspect the job. The tank was held in place by 3 bolts. One appeared to be new, while the others were obviously old. That surprised me as I have done many toilet repairs and usually replace ALL toilet bolts at one time because the removal of the tank is quite involved and you don't want to do it often. I was additionally surprised that the bill was $250.00 to replace ONE bolt.

I called the My Plumber to talk about the service and briefly explained my concerns. I was asked if I could be called right back as he was busy with a customer on the other line. I agreed and waited for a return call, that didn't come until the next day. I received a call from Quinton asking about my concerns. I told him I was surprised that the cost of the job was $250 and he responded that it cost $250, just to come out and that he did me a favor by fixing the leak. I told him that the invoice said ""Installed new BOLTS and seal and installed tank back on toilet."" I asked why he only installed ONE bolt and he replied that only one was broken and the tank is different that it requires 3 and he would have had to drive and get more bolts and it would have cost more money. I told him that I couldn't believe that he only had one bolt, as they usually come 2 in a package. He responded that he thought it was a temporary fix because I was thinking about a whole new toilet. Regardless, new bolts should have been installed as supported by his Diagnosis/Solution statement on the invoice.

Quinton was arrogant, condescending and rude in our conversation. I thanked him for repairing the toilet and told him I would not be using them again.

Rob is an excellent plumber and has saved me a few times in a pinch but when you see him pull in your driveway, hide your wallet and credit cards. He doesn't seem to do anything that doesn't cost 200.00. He actually charged me for a job he did, full price, and then told me uh oh, I think I have to change this little line that goes to the shutoff. I was curious about it. It took 11 minutes including time to walk up to the house and I was charged 70.00. And he had just finished the job he was initially charging me for so there was no call-out charge. I was stunned but I hope he enjoys the 70.00, that's the last he will get from me.

We had a leak in the shower drain of the upstairs bathroom, leaking into the kitchen ceiling below. Two men took 1-1/2 hours to fix the leak, did not repair the ceiling and charged me $458.00 (including a 10% senior discount)! I even supplied the drop cloth so they could contain the mess. The way I figure it, that's about $200 too much! I complained, but on deaf ears. Not MY plumber--ever again.
