Mr Unger's Kitchen & Bathroom Remodeling

After several frantic weeks of searching for a contractor with no success, we finally stumbled on Unger's Kitchen & Bathroom Remodeling. Because we were on a very tight deadline and needed the work to begin right away, Dmitry agreed to meet at the house for a site visit that same day.

As an architect who works on commercial buildings in downtown SF, I'm used to terrible contractors. Also, most of the friends we talked to hated their experience with residential contractors. So it was very refreshing to work with Dmitry who is very honest, well versed in building codes, connected with the SSF building inspectors, and delivers in a timely manner. Out of 6-7 contractor quotes we received, Dmitry's was very reasonable.

Margus was responsible for the initial phase of the project, which included demolition, rough electrical, plumbing and cabinet installation. He works very fast and efficiently, and I was pleasantly surprised with how much progress he made on a daily basis. He was also very good at communicating any issues that came up, questions, or even just progress of the house. The only thing I wish was done differently was clean up everyday (this might have been because we weren't living in the house during construction and he didn't feel it was necessary, not sure) and the painting of the guest bathroom was not great.

Karen was responsible for the finish work and we were very very happy with his craftsmanship, thoroughness and love for his job. He did a beautiful job with the subway tile backsplash and in putting the finishing touches throughout the house. He was also very responsive to texts and we saw him almost every weekend at the house. He's a super nice and great person and we felt like he legitimately cared about making our family happy with his work.

All in all, we were very impressed with Dmitry and co and are hoping to use them again when we remodel our upstairs bathrooms.

Dmitry and George did 2 bathrooms remodel, installed over 30 recess lighting and install baseboards all around the second floor of our house. This was all done with a permit and within the project schedule. Dmitry is very knowledgeable, honest, and doesn't really mess around. Great work and I highly recommend using him. Thanks!

We had our bathroom remodel completed in December 2016, so this review is overdue. We had just purchased our house and didn't want to spend a ton of money remodeling since we had just shelled out so much money, but we knew we had to have the master bathroom remodeled prior to moving in. We called several contractors and got a large range of bids. Mr. Unger was the only one that had a reasonable cost and appeared to be really knowledgeable about the building codes and inspection process with the building dept. He even said he could do it in about 2 weeks! That was the icing on the cake. We wanted to move in asap, so this worked out great.

During the construction process, we ran into 3 unknown issues (I guess that's what happens when you purchase a 100 year old home). With each of the issues, Mr. unger was precise in what we needed to do and the price was reasonable. Even with all these hiccups, we still finished on time, which was important so that we could get the floors refinished before we moved in also.

I wish mr. Unger also did full remodels as we are in the process of remodeling our entire top floor. We will probably hire him when we can afford to remodel our kitchen. I can't recommend him enough.

Dmitriy and his team is easy to deal with. Great contractor. Great work and on time. Reasonable cost. He is straightforward and keeps everything on track, he'll let you know what is up to code and what isn't. Overall, we're happy with the outcome of our small bathroom. Mr Unger is the way to go. We met with four different contractors and are extremely happy we went with Unger. Everything was done with a permit, on time and very reasonably priced. He is also based in South SF, so is super close and checks on his guys often. Highly recommend.

This was my first remodel experience and it could not have been better. Dmitry was communicative, honest, and on time for everything. When we wanted something that he thought may not work, he was able to explain why and find us other options.

Dmitry's employee, Karen, is basically a remodel artist. He cut and laid our tiles, cut our counter top, and set everything up on the bathroom PERFECTLY. Not only that, he was friendly and clean! To say I am obsessed with Karen would be an understatement. He was seriously amazing.

I cannot recommend Mr. Unger enough. Our bathroom is beautiful and Dmitry sure does know his housing code (passing permits was so easy).

Using Dmitriy's service to remodel our bathroom was the best decision we made. I talked to many contractors and Dmitriy stood out from the rest as someone who knew housing code inside and out and really understood our situation. The project was completed on the initial timeline we agreed to and the work quality was unbelievable. Karen was the one in our house almost daily and is one the nicest guys i've ever met. He really cared about making this room look good. He had an incredible attention to detail. The pictures really tell the story of how much effort Karen made to make this room look amazing.

This was our first remodel and Dmitriy helped walked us through it. We had ideas of what he wanted and he would explain what each of them would entail, how some things we wanted could be a range of prices and he would explain all the options and give us choices. We even ran into trouble where some of our pieces we bought did not fit in the right spots, and Dmitriy went to the store for us and bought a similar item. Permits and inspections were a breeze. Dmitriy's honesty about the entire process, what we should expect, the price, and updating us throughout really made me sure there is no one better to do a remodel.

Inspector came today and said that they are so knowledgeable that I should be lucky of hiring them I would be recommending them to any body that would need a bathroom or kitchen Not even one change of order and clean that I don't have words to describe how happy I am

We brought our home in South SF in late November (2b/2b), we were looking for someone to do fast quality work on the entire house within 1-1.5 month. Overall Dmitry was very clear, consistently responsive, worked fast and patiently explained multiple aspects of construction for our house. His pricing is reasonable and he also was able to provide us warehouses deals on kitchen cabinets. He was very easy to work with and was able to meet our tight schedule.

We're very satisfied with the below job Dmitry did for us:
- Bathroom (toilet, granite floors, marble walls, vanity): they were able to finish the bathroom within the 1st week of starting the job
- Kitchen (cabinets, lights, pipes, gas valve, stove hood)
- Dryer (redirected the pipe to back of the house instead of under the house)
- Electrical re-wireing throughout the house
- Recess lighting in dining room/living room

Do not use Dmitry for paint job, we had the entire house was repainted (walls, ceiling, clothsets, floor trims) by Dmitry & team. They didn't put as much attention to detail as we had hoped. Some of areas in the ceiling (around the recess light) was not painted well as we can see the old paint showing through. The edges where the wall meets the ceiling was not painted well as there is about 1 inch (or 1/2 an inch) where we can see the old paint.

My Husband and I have been wanting to re-do our kitchen for a couple of months but we have no experience with remodeling or contractors. After two previous quotes from other companies we decided to go with Mr. Unger. His reviews on yelp were very good and we wanted a local contractor. All I can say is that Mr. Unger gave us a reasonable price quote. He was very straight forward with the entire process there were never and hidden costs or un expected delays. His team showed up on time and left on time, very tidy and hard working men. The outcome has exceeded our expectations I have enclosed pictures of my kitchen. We will continue to use Mr. Unger for all of our future remodeling. our overall experience was excellent and the quality of the job is top notch.
