I think when you pay for a service, you should get a good faith effort at success.
The tech was friendly enough, but after trying to snake my kitchen sink for 5 minutes or so, he said he couldn't clear it from the sink. Down we went into the crawl space and found the joint where the clog probably was. To our good fortune, the pvc pipe had been spliced about a foot from that joint. So it should have been easy enough to unscrew that little splice and run the snake from there. I suggested as much and he said, ""I will not do that."" First it was because if it worked, water would come pouring into the crawlspace, then because it risked damaging a pipe (although I had already released Mr. Rooter from liability for things like that).
So rather than the $300 it was supposed to cost to clear the drain, he only charged me $100 for his 30 minutes of not fixing it, or continuing to try.
I think any service implies a good faith effort at success, and this service fell short. But no worries of course, because they can send someone out to replace who knows how many pipes. (You saw that one coming, didn't your?) So they got my $100 and they want ""well over a thousand"" to replace some pipes.
I'm sensing a little bait and switch. So be warned, if your sink is clogged, it is probably because Mr. Rooter thinks you need thousands of dollars of new pipes.
PS- After he left, I went down with my dollar store hand snake and cleared it by going through the splice area like we had discussed.
PPS- I notice that their website includes numerous positive reviews, all of them 5 stars in fact. The most recent was 2020. Just saying.
I was very pleased with the service provided by Mr. Rooter service man, Douglas A. Douglas was knowledgeable and efficient. The issue with my toilet commode was not an easy or common diagnosis, but Douglas figured out the toilet, still under manufacture's warranty, was faculty from the git go. He went and got a new replacement, quickly installed it and voila! In the process, I not only got good service, I also made a new friend. Way to go, Douglas.
Kathy W.Anytime I have had a plumbing problem, they have been my go-to plumbers. Lane Robinson is very thorough and very knowledgeable. They don't overcharge.
Tom B.Very professional and competent plumbers and Master Plumbers have recently assisted us in preparing for a complete re-piping project we are doing on an older (built 1966) home in Lexington, KY. Each time the technicians visited our home they practiced all proper COVID 19 precautions and were very respectful to my wife and I and answered all our questions. Special Thanks to David, Robert and Shawn. The office staff (Christine and Tanya) I was in contact with via phone calls and texts were also very professional, courteous and respectful as well. This Old Retired U. S. Army Soldier appreciates that. I strongly recommend Mr. Rooter of Lexington, Kentucky for all your plumbing needs. Excellent value at a Fair price. Thank you Mr. Rooter. Tom B
Ramon S.These guys are not the fastest responders nor the cheapest company in the area, their technicals are friendly enough but upper management really lack integrity of small business owners. If they mess up on a fix they will never accept fault, and come back with aggressive comments. They did not put the flow cap back on under the crawl space of our pipes and put our whole family in danger of methane gas for 3 weeks. I would recommend calling other local companies that will respond faster, do a better job and much much cheaper.
Timothy U.I have no complaint about the prompt service or the courteous plumber (Shawn) that replaced a toilet.
However, $650 for the same toilet that Home Depot sells for $200 is criminal. The total came to $756 and I am just sick about it. I take responsibility for signing off on the work...that's on me. I can't compare Mr. Rooter to any other plumbing business but if this is standard practice, it's not only wrong but immoral. GOD help you if you need a toilet replaced.
UPDATE SEPTEMBER 17, 2018.....
After some research, I have determined the extent to which I was gouged by Mr. Rooter.
As I stated earlier, Home Depot has the exact same toilet for $200 including tax. That is retail and does not take into consideration the contractor discount that Mr. Rooter would have received. His cost would have been about $150.
I contacted 3 plumbers to get a quote for removing and replacing a toilet. That cost would be between $100 and $125 depending on what may need to be replaced such as the flange.
So, if I would have purchased the toilet myself and had a plumber install it for me, the total cost would have been between $300 and $325. Now, I understand if the cost of the toilet had been $50 to $100 more for his profit but how do you justify more than $430 in cost to replace a toilet.
The invoice that Mr. Rooter gave me did not breakdown or itemize the $756 charge. The invoice simply states AMERICAN STANDARD CHAMPION WHITE ELONGATED TOILET $756.75. NO COST FOR THE TOILET.....NO COST FOR THE LABOR.... NO COST FOR ADDITIONAL PARTS....NOT EVEN TAX According to David W. Napier, the owner of this Mr. Rooter franchise, he ""doesn't break down his invoices'.
The work was done on a weekday during business hours.
For those who are trying to get by on a fixed income be prepared to pay dearly for the services of one Mr. Rooter.
SO, CONSIDER THIS A WARNING!!!!!! BEFORE YOU CALL MR. ROOTER

William B.Should really be called Mr Rooter Plumbing of Richmond since that is where their office is actually located. Called them today because I found a ton of water coming through the ceiling in our basement. They wanted to charge us $200 just to drive here, then charge their normal diagnostic fee, then charge us whatever additional it would be for parts/labor. Considering they advertise as being a Lexington based company I would expect that any/all travel charges would be based on a location in Lexington. Not sure about others, but I definitely am not ok with spending $200 to have someone drive 30 miles. Guess the whole Mr Appliance, Mr Electric, & Mr Rooter discount membership isn't worth it after all (no discount on that $200 fee either). If it weren't for the fact that the current administration is hell bent on destroying the government I'd consider filing a truth in advertising complaint.
Paige M.Professional, expensive and available all the time! My experience with the technician was exemplary but I was never given a receipt. When I called to ask why, I was told that I would have to wait a couple of days which was inconvenient. If you have other options go with them but for 'round the clock service.... they'll do just fine
Alan S.Shane came to our house to fix a stopped up tub. He warned me this job could be bigger than it seemed. He worked on it for a quite a long time and eventually got the leak fixed. A young guy, but very knowledgeable, professional, polite and helpful. I definitely recommend this company and Shane if you ever need this type of work done.
Had an emergency and called Mr. Rooter at 11:00pm. They sent a technician straight out with no after hours service charge! He did an awesome job! I highly recommend Mr. Rooter Plumbing for any plumbing needs!
