Janet C.Completely dissatisfied. The prices they wanted to charge me were outrageous and unacceptable for a simple bathtub auger. I will never ever call there again, never ever recommend and discourage anyone from using this service - it was a terrible experience, I am completely dissatisfied and angry with the whole thing. AWFUL. I hate being ripped off!!!
David O.I called out Mr. Rooter unclog a simple trap in my house, it some how escalated into flushing out a ""clogged sewer drain"" which cost $1300 but didn't fix the clog in my trap. These guys will up sell you on unecessaary work, like how they told me wife we needed a new sewer line for $10,000. We called in a real plumber who found a trap that wasn't located in plain site, $150 and an hour later my clogged trap was fixed.
Donald M.The team from Mr. Rooter did a very good job at my house. It was a bit of an emergency as most sewer problems are and they arrived quickly and on time. Eric who was the primary technician did an excellent job. I had my line snaked, camera'd and ultimately had 7 feet of line replaced. They handled it in a very professional manner and I am extremely satisfied without their workmanship. With tat said, as it was an emergency I did not get a chance to price compare with other vendors but my feeling it is was a pretty fair price. I offer up recommendations.
Kris S.Unfortunately, I have to give 1 star. For other consumers researching plumbers, please check the other reviews here to see what you're getting yourself into. My regret is not looking here first to get the full view of Mr. Rooter Plumbing of Central New Jersey.
Ultimately, Mr. Rooter Plumbing of Central New Jersey is very, very overpriced (nearly 3x market rate) and, the team doesn't disclose this up front. Rather, they wait until they get to your house when you're anxious to get the work done, and then significantly upcharge you for jobs that other plumbers do for literally less than half.
In addition, the manager I spoke with about my well-above-market-rate charge was rude and overbearing. He definitely understands that he is taking advantage of people...he had a practiced counter-argument for every valid point I made. He came onto the line hostile from the start, throwing his weight around and talking over me. It's clear that their business relies on people not knowing what they're getting themselves into. That's just a terrible way to run a business, but it's their model.
The owner would do better with new management. However, the techs and ""front line"" staff seem to be friendly and capable. When I asked the manager about the pricing and told him what I thought was reasonable ($125 to $150), he said, ""I can't even get a truck in your driveway for less than $150"". That, unfortunately, is the ""buyer beware"" statement that sums up their business model and management attitude.
The job was to snake a line. The tech was there for exactly 1 hour and used no materials. This resulted in a $310 charge. That is more than any other professional service charges, whether it be electricians, plumbers, mechanics, etc.
Similar to other customers, I can attest to two things:
First, their work was good. The technician was able to snake a line that another plumber had tried snaking unsuccessfully. I appreciate the knowledge and skill. In addition, the tech was very friendly and courteous, and even helped wipe up the bathroom after his work. He seemed like a great guy.
Does that justify the management's predatory approach and charging 3X market rate once they're at your house? No. You can do a good job AND run an honest business.
Second, as noted in many other reviews, they are intentionally deceptive and misleading about their pricing. Like others, I was told up front that the service charge was $65, and that the tech would let me know the rest of the work on arrival. Had I known they would charge this much for a simple snake job, I would not have agreed to have them come to the house.
My recommendation to the business: review your pricing to be more in-line with market rate, and be more up-front with clients about your standard pricing. Don't spring pricing on them when they need you to fix a problem. Don't hide behind the ""we will have to come and see"" because you can at least give a sense of what you charge for typical job for the issue described. If I tell you my line is clogged, tell me what it costs to clear it, don't just say it's $65 for the visit and then try to surprise me with several hundreds of dollars of added charges. That's just wrong.
Nicky C.0 star if there is
Misleading and false advertising , disgusting attitude.
If you want be rob by them and listen to their disgust attitude go ahead choose them .
I ask them they certainly told me $65, but When they say $65 to sent technicians out to check, they real going to charge you $160.
And give you attitude telling you don't understand.
Worse worse worse company ever
The technicians just take a look and never give you a quote
Office lady was saying ""for technicians came out and just get to your HOME is $65, when they see what the problem is they will charge you again 94.94""
I don't mind paying when my water tank is broken but if they say $160 to find the problem and if I choose to do I have nothing to complain.
But not telling customer one price and charge another.
What do I do if don't even want to leave one yellow star?
Mr. Rooter said that they would be here between 1 and 3. I told them it was important because my mom and my brother-in-law are in the hospital. The person that I spoke to said it was possible that they may even get here before 1. At 3:16 they hadn't come nor had they called. I called them and spoke to someone who informed me that they're tied up in jobs and she can't guarantee a time any longer. I told her this is ""unacceptable because I have to leave. I even told you that I had a family situation."" I asked her ""had I not called would someone bother to call me?"" I told her ""I am leaving them terrible Yelp and Google reviews."" Of course that woke everyone up and at 3:29 someone else called me and said they were on their way. They were 40 minutes away. Was that call supposed to make me feel better? I told her I canceled the call. Of course I'm going to be the one in trouble because I'm on my way to the hospital and my wife is taking a cold shower in the morning.
I called last night for an appointment for today and the woman on the phone was very nice and helpful. They called this morning to tell me my plumbers name Eric, and also to see if I wanted him earlier than the 10-1 window, I said sure that would be great. So Eric came and was very nice and polite. I thought I needed a new garbage disposal but he saved it. And unclogged my pipes, all without making a mess! He was very nice and knowledgeable, I would call Mr Rooter again without hesitation, and would recommend them highly.
I think this was the worst experience I've had in my life dealing with repairmen. This company is a fraud and filled with liars and thieves. On December 3, 2018 I was contacted by my tenant who asked me to pump our septic tank. Unfortunately I was unlucky to contact Mr Rooter of Freehold who told me that they need to have a credit card and a deposit of $65 before going out to the location and I provided them with it. Upon arrival at my property they called me and said that they are unable to locate my septic tank even though I pointed them in precise location. Usually when septic people were at my location it took them seconds to locate it using a long metal rod that they stuck into the ground. Then they told me that they dug 3ft into the ground to locate the tank. This was a blatant lie because our tank is located 10 inches underneath the surface. At this point I asked my tenant to go outside and take a picture of the supposed 3ft hole they dug in the ground. The hole was about 5-6 inches deep and not what they told me. Then they simply said that they cannot locate the tank and can't finish the job. But because they had to go out they will charge me $65 fee. Not only they charged me $65 but they also charged me some other fee of $4.31. That's actually fine because I already contacted my bank and will do the chargeback for both charges. Not only I was assured that I will get every penny back but I was told that credit card disputes, and I have 2, will cost Mr Rooter at least $25 each. That makes me feel a little better that not only they won't get the stolen $70 from me but will have to pay $50 to their merchant bank. Stay away unless you enjoy dealing with unprofessional company full of thieves.
Beware of this business!!! My friends 87year old mother was charged $650.00 for a cheap standard toilet bowl to be installed. When my friend called to get an itemized invoice she was told by the owner Andrew August that is not how they do business that it's a standard fee and would not produce an invoice.
I found out that their trucks are seen frequently in the senior developments so please let your elderly relatives know to stear clear of this business.

I wouldn't even give them one star! They charge your credit card for work they don't do. The first time they put a sump pump in for me, the technician did it wrong, and I got water. Six weeks later, the basin filled up and wouldn't empty. When I called them to ask why, they said they couldn't tell me over the phone and had to come to my house for a service fee of $65. Once at my home, the technician was throwing out all kinds of comments, but had no clue what was really wrong. They wanted to charge me another $300 to snake the line! All of a sudden, the basin emptied on its own! I told them to leave, I never got a bill, and they were gone. When I got my credit card statement, they had charged me $94.87 in addition to the $65! I never authorized them to do anything more than the $65! They are the worst! I'm going back and forth with my credit card company to get my money back. Don't trust them, you'll be very sorry if you do! There are reputable plumbers out there, and it's worth paying more to get someone who is honest.
