Edgar and Arthur to the rescue!

My hybrid electric water heater blew its lower heating element for the second time. Luckily, I had the part on-hand but I needed someone to install it - and soon, with a forecast of many cold, rainy days ahead.

The water heater broke at 6:30 pm on a Friday. I completed a Yelp request for quotes for the repair. Edgar was first to respond (almost immediately) said he was available the following day for a fair price. Edgar and Arthur arrived right on schedule at 3 pm the following day.

It wasn't an easy fix.

Due to the calcification of filament from the other heating events that failed (i.e. due to a bunch of crud at the bottom of the tank!) the spigot to empty the water heater was clogged.

I'd previously been told that the spigot would need to be removed and I'd have to flood the entire garage to get the water out. But these guys got creative. They tried to suck out the water by vacuum. Then tried to flush the blockage out with reverse pressure. (That worked for a second.) Finally, they emptied the water through the opening for the heating element and avoided flooding with a long pipe, which directed the water straight out to the street.

Given the challenges of the job, I was impressed what how little water hit the garage floor. They brushed and vacuumed up much of it so that I only had to wipe up some spots with a small towel later.

They even went the extra mile. Although they had other clients scheduled that day, they fully emptied the tank and tried to vacuum out as much crud as possible.

Huge thanks to Flowright Plumbing for an excellent job! They'll be my go-to plumbers from now on.

I had my kitchen/bath counters replaced, not realizing I needed a plumber to hook back up the faucets. I made some inquiries on yelp as I needed the faucets as soon as possible. I wanted to convert my wood-burning fireplace to a gas-log fireplace by myself as a surprise for my husband. I had ordered all of the new parts (burner, logs, etc.); the only problem was that I couldn't begin to disengage the old burner pipe from the gas line in order to install the new set, even with plumbing wrenches. After 75 years of use and neglect, the joints were essentially welded together. Hoping that my limited upper-body strength was a significant impediment, I began phoning plumbers in the area to see whether anyone would be willing to try disengaging the old pipes. After a couple of rejections (i.e., didn't cover my area despite map indicating he did; couldn't get to the job until one month from now), I came to Mr. Flowright. When I phoned, I got Edgar, who said that he had a job to do in Culver City (about 11 miles from my house) but that he could stop by on his way back to the office later in the afternoon (it was now about 2 pm on a Friday). He told me his minimum price (equivalent to 1 hour of work) which was quite reasonable. Not only did he stop by, despite the fact that it was already 4:30 pm, but he managed to get the most critical pipe junction unthreaded (although an initial joint was so solidly welded that it sheared rather than unthreading). Rather than risk trying to unfasten an additional joint that would have yielded the proper male terminal to interface with the new set, he went to his truck and found a male/male adapter nipple that worked, attached my burner, and checked for leaks . . . all beyond the call of duty, and all included in his initial estimate even though it was after his advertised work hours by the time he left. Edgar is a good and honest plumber. I definitely recommend him.

Edgar and his team did a great job removing my old, broken water heater and installing a new one, plus adding upgrades to bring my set-up to code. They also did nice, clean work replacing the faucet and handles on my pedestal sink. Edgar was good at explaining my options at each stage, so it was always clear what I was paying for. Once I got a hold of him, he was on top of everything when he started the job. He has a great energy, is quite a problem solver, and is extremely great with people. He helped me on a separate issue with the wall heater at no charge and took his time to talk to one of our tenants regarding that. He works long hours. When the tenant's heater was off as a result of the plumbing work, he made sure he would go to them before going home to turn on the heater for them. Edgar was amazing! We were having an issue with our toilet leaking, not only did he come at convenient hours for us, (8 pm), but he communicated with us throughout the day. He knew exactly what was wrong with the toilet and explained it in such a way that we understood. He's very fair and very upfront about pricing. He's such a personable, friendly guy, but also very knowledgeable. We'll be using Edgar for all our future plumbing needs.
