Sandy R.I called MPT because my water pressure was very low, so I figured something was wrong. When Mike and his assistant arrived, he told me I had a leak (a leak - singular, not plural). I handed him my phone with the video running so he could video the leak for me to see, which he did. As he gave me a quick overview of what he needed to do, he made it sound like it was a bigger job than it was by what he said and how he said it. He quoted me $500 and based on what he said (well, I have to go around this and do that, etc.), I expected them to be there for hours. When they were done with the job less than an hour later, they came up from the basement and I asked Mike how much of the money charged was for materials. He said about $70. Then I asked him if the job took less time than he originally anticipated, and he said ""no"". When I pointed out that his hourly rate was over $400 per hour, he said that he bids it by the job and not the hour. His assistant said that he can do it so fast because he has 30 years of union experience and implied that's what I'm paying for. Mike also continued to defend his pricing, but I felt I was being ripped off. Being a middle-aged woman alone, standing in her kitchen with two big men, I felt I had no choice but to give over my credit card.
As they were leaving, I went over to my neighbor who was out in the yard, to get his opinion about what I'd been charged. He thought I'd been overcharged and gave me the number to his plumber. I got another plumber's number from another neighbor as well. These are the plumbers who gave me the quotes referred to above. There was also a big puddle that MPT did not clean up that I mentioned to one of the plumbers. That plumber told me it should have been cleaned up and he would have done that if it was on a job he did.
After that, I texted Mike and subsequently spoke with Heather on the phone. Heather told me the reason I was charged what I was, was because I had 3 leaks. I told her that there was only one leak and I had the video to prove it. (Obviously she wasn't aware I had video). Then she told me that charges are also based on travel time and having to go out and get supplies for the job. I live only 2.6 miles away from them, which I pointed out to her, and that the only place they went for supplies was their own van parked in front of my house. So, then she says that they already gave me a $100 discount, as the job should have been $600. After one lame excuse after the other, then I really got mad. She finally asked me how about $400? And I said it was not enough. At this point, I was done with her, as they were still overcharging me.
I reported all the details to the BBB and they lowered their rating, which I'm sure they don't do without justification. Copy and paste this link for BBB: https://www.bbb.org/us/il/algonquin/profile/plumber/mpt-plumbing-inc-0654-88588602
Recently, I shared my experience on FaceBook when someone was looking for a plumber and others had recommended this company. Heather, the office manager and girlfriend of Mike (The ""M"" in MPT) commented saying that I had bullied her, tried to extort her, was a miserable person and that I was looking for a ""handout"". I was looking for fair pricing! Informing her that I would be posting reviews online is NOT extortion. A real piece of work!
These guys are the best. Last year my basement flooded and they came to the rescue with about an hours notice on a weeknight. They replaced the sump pump, drained and cleaned up the water and even resolved another surprise issue with the well and gravel that kept jamming up the pump. The new sump pump works great.
Today they fixed some problems with my water heater. I assumed the water heater needed to be replaced, but they came out and pointed out it was a problem with some corroded leaking pipes leading to the water heater. They showed up early and got everything fixed and cleaned up. Both times they were affordable, helpful and thorough, making sure everything was resolved before they left.
Tom F.OVER PRICED!! STAY AWAY!!
This company required a 59$ fee to over bid my small project. After receiving a 600$ quote for 1 hr of work I said NO. In the Pic you can see in the circle is what is damaged and needs to be replaced. The red lines show where the cut needs to be made. I feel like I was scammed, and they did not have change for my 60$. I guess if you over bid 5 projects in an hour your still making 300$. Use Friendly Plumbing, much better company.
Called MPT Plumbing to replace my 30 gallon water heater which was leaking (on the phone I had mentioned that I am looking to replace it ASAP). I was told that there is a service charge of $59 for the visit, which I agreed to pay. Mike showed up and he seemed to be in a hurry from the moment he walked in. Didn't answer any of my wife's questions properly. But most importantly, we were told that both the 30 and 40 gallon heaters are back ordered and would take a couple of weeks. This is something which could have been easily mentioned over the phone when I initially called. Total rip-off.
Rose L.Christmas Day party uncovered a leak underneath my mom's kitchen sink. We called around the next day and no other plumbing service picked up their phone. We tried MPT and, luckily, they had someone working the phones. By 10 AM the next morning, we had friendly Michael and Brad at our door. They were professional and courteous, and quick. On top of that - helpful with a few other pesky leaks and issues. Great service, great advice, reasonable rate, and even a solid referral for an issue with the stove. Highly recommend Michael and team. Thanks for all the help!
I wish I had more eloquent words as other reviewers do, however they may not even be necessary. I really can't say enough about MPT Plumbing! This is perhaps the happiest I've ever been to leave a review for a business. This whole operation is incredible! From Heather who was courteous, knowledgeable and so helpful on my initial call, to Mike who was nothing short of those attributes as well. I can see absolutely NO reason that you should even consider anyone else for your plumbing needs! Please, do yourself a favor....hire MPT Plumbing and you'll definitely be glad you did!! Thank you for everything Mike and Heather!
SavnOne C.To all of you avid Yelp users. I always buy products and use services that have the highest reviews in order to minimize my disappointment. I try to always write reviews in hopes to help others. I've taken the liberty of writing this review because I truly believe in Michael and MPT Plumbing. Hopefully this review provides enough reassurance that leads you in confidently choosing this company.
On Friday, January 19, 2018, our 15 year old hot water heater decided to stop working. The bottom had cracked and the water had slowly leaked all over the basement floor (not to mention soaking our plush carpeting and the Walmart grade socks I was wearing). I went on Yelp and called the top five companies in the area that had five star reviews. Each company seemed very reputable and each company was selling the same Bradford White natural gas water heater. On my 4th call, I came across MPT Plumbing. From the very beginning, Michael, the owner, was not only responsive but was also an understanding businessman. He must have known I was Filipino (most are cheapskates) because after discussing my issue with him, he cut to the chase and gave me a price even my father wouldn't have believed. This was absolutely mind-blowing to me considering I had just spoken to three other companies before him and their quotes were ""unbeatable"" (clearly not!!!). There was no need to haggle pricing with Michael. I wanted to be respectful knowing he too has to make a living from what he charges his customers. Equally shocking as his price, he was able to come to the house first thing the following morning rather than on Monday, January 22 (which the other three companies would have to do). Good to his word, he and his associate, Ian, arrived early Saturday morning looking like they were ready to take on the world. They promptly started their work approximately 0900 and fully completed the install approximately 1115, due to some unexpected issues (piping and valve issues from our fantastic ""cutting corner"" home builder). These guys were like magicians, troubleshooting the issues and completing their work with minimal interference to our day. Michael, unnecessarily, apologized for taking longer than usual (apparently these two can possibly finish a job in under 10 minutes). Both gentlemen were very respectful of my house and did everything they could to keep it clean (hmmm...I wonder if Michael would hire my kids so they too can learn how to keep my darn house clean). I was truly very impressed with the entire experience. The communication between Michael, Ian, and myself was exactly what I expect from professionals (the way traditional businesses use to be like). In fact, Michael even called me early Saturday morning to explain that he would be a little late because the supply warehouse (where he purchased the hot water heater) was taking a bit longer than he anticipated. That really speaks volumes of his respect for other people's time, his work ethics to try to be on time, and his commitment to communicating effectively with his customers to keep them informed/happy. At the end of the job and because I was so impressed with their work, I showed Michael another small job that had to do with my sump pump outlet in my backyard. He gave me ideas on how to fix the problem which could easily result in me not needing his services. Who does that? I am very grateful that there are still some businessmen who take pride in their work and offer advice without trying to always make a buck. I look forward to working with Michael again in the future. I have already started spreading his name at my work and on social media. I strongly recommend that you give him a call for all your plumbing needs. I am confident you'll be as satisfied as I was/am. Take care and God bless!!!

Dawn P.Based on previous Yelp reviews, I emailed MPT after hours on a Wednesday night and received a response within hours. Communication was great throughout the process! Mike was scheduled to come out Thursday morning for a quote for a leak that was occurring in my master bath on the 2nd floor which was leaking into my kitchen ceiling. He diagnosed the problem right away, went out to get parts, and quickly returned. He showed me the issue before the work was complete, told me what he was doing to fix it, and showed me the finished work asking if I had any questions. He and his partner (sorry, forgot his name) were professional and pricing seemed fair although I can't confirm as I hired him right away without getting the remainder of the quotes I had scheduled. Highly, highly, highly recommend.
Helen L.I am so beyond impressed by MPT Plumbing. I decided to reach out to them because they are highly rated and they're a local, family-owned business. I'm so glad I did. Their level of professionalism far surpassed that of any large plumbing contractor you will find. Michael was super fast, super friendly and the price was right. You can't ask for more. They made the whole experience easy and painless.
Our outside spigot broke over last winter. We didn't know until we had been using the hose all spring and almost into the beginning of summer. Long story short.....the basement flooded. We tried every plumber in Huntley and not one would service us. Half of them didn't even answer the phone. We called MPT Plumbing and not only did they answer on the weekend, we were promised service first thing on Monday. The technicians were knowledgeable and so polite it was a pleasure to deal with them! My husband is in the construction business and he was very impressed with their work! If you need a plumber.....CALL MPT PLUMBING!!!
