Jennifer G.I've had service contracts with several different companies over the last few years. About a year ago I had a leak coming through the ceiling in my kitchen. I got in touch with Mowery through a frantic search on Home Advisor. From the leak repair, to regular tune ups, and even some additional plumbing repairs -- everyone from Mowery has been great to work with.
As a female homeowner, I have found it challenging to find companies for home repairs that are honest and not going to try the up-sell. I've never had that experience with Mowery. They come for the work, do what was requested, and explain the work that was done. I recently increased my service contract from the basic HVAC to now also include the water heater and gas fireplace. I highly recommend getting a service contract. It covers annual tune-ups, but also ensures a discount on service. It pretty much pays for itself. If you're in the Indy area, I highly suggest using Mowery for HVAC and plumbing needs.
Had plumber come to give an estimate for a bathroom upgrade. Estimate was 3x higher than other estimates given, plumber was not very professional, spent half his time trying to up-sell me on unneeded services, and then charged me an $85 service call for the estimate. No mention of a service call charge was made when I made the appointment. Will definitely not use them for this or future jobs.
Frances M.Called Mowery due to plumbing stoppage. They were able to come right out within 30 minutes and Devin was able to clear clog within a few minutes. He made sure everything was working and was very courteous. I liked that he wore covers on his shoes when he came into house. Will definitely use again.

I had Mowery out to the house for a drain clearing of my toilet. They sent the guy same day! He was great. Since he couldn't fix it (toy stuck), he didn't charge me! He did offer me the ""service plan"", which I almost bought because at $14/month is a decent deal if you plan to service your AC/Furnace for tune ups in the spring and fall.
Fast forward a couple weeks - my outdoor AC unit wasn't kicking on although the system was calling for air. I did some basic troubleshooting to determine there was no pressure in the lines (it was out of Freon) and most likely had a leak. I called Mowery back (intending to purchase the plan). They pre-called he say before and morning of to let me know their arrival time. So far, so good.
Giss and Jerry arrived on time. After a few minutes they located the leak at the compressor. Giss reported there was a muffler (which threw me off since I have never heard of this and spent a couple years working in HVAC) that went bad. I asked for the part number but he couldn't supply it only stating that it was ordered by his service manager.
Now we have a problem. I was quoted $663 (labor and parts) for a part that cost $21 at the local supply house. This was a 2 hour replacement from start to finish. There was an additional $446 to replace the 9 lbs of Freon from the unit. $50/lb of Freon!? That's DOUBLE what the 1st company I called charges!!
Because they had a ""service plan"" option, I could save the equivalent of $100 on the $1000 bill. NEVER. Never would I purchase a contract with a company that would price gauge someone to this extent. I'm completely amazed that someone would have the gall to look me in the face and tell me that a $350 job is going to cost me $1000 then expect me want to use them for all of my future service needs. No F-ING way. I ended up paying for $85 for the service call - which provided me the insight of the bad $20 part.
Before you decide to use this company - they have coupons all the time in the ""money mailer"" and junk mail - take it from someone in the service industry. This company doesn't care about you. They just want your contract and credit card number.
What a scam! Beware!
I had an appointment scheduled between 12p-6p. At 5p, I called to verify they were still coming. The lady I talked to said I wasn't on their call log for the service for that day. I explained that I called two days prior and scheduled the appointment. I explained that this was in regards to selling my house and I was needing it done that day. She apologized and said she would be able to send someone out that same day even though it was late. Literally 3 minutes later she called back and said that she found me on their call list for today and I was called twice earlier in the day to let me know they had technicians available. I told her that I didnt receive any phone calls. I further explained that sometimes my phone goes straight to voicemail and that could have been the problem. She then stated that they didnt have anyone available to come out. My guess is that since it was deemed my fault, even though it was a technology issue, the technician then had available suddenly became unavailable. Poor customer service. Will no longer use them for my service needs.
Jeff K.We have had a service contract Mowery for our company's HVAC, since 2012. We will be looking to switch, as the service has gone downhill. I was recently contacted about scheduling our tune up service, so I called the person back to review the two dates that were provided. I was directed to a mailbox, completely different than the person I asked for. A second call was made, and the rude person in the office acted like I made the dates up, as they were booked, and the next available dates were a month out. After offering two other dates, both Saturday's I asked for her to figure it out and call me back. She didn't, and a follow up email was required to secure a date, but the rude response was unnecessary. We'll be using someone else once our contact ends in January.
Kristy J.My sewer pipe was clogged with tree roots. A guy came and cleared the line that night and another man was scheduled to come with a camera the following day. The next day the water was again not draining and instead pouring through my outside clean out. I called and was told the guy would come with the camera. He came and said he couldn't get the camera in more than two feet. Then he tells me that I need to replace the entire pipe all the way to the main sewer line. He quotes me $14K and quickly tries to get me to finance a loan. I cannot afford $14K let alone the payments that would come with a loan for that amount!
I called another company and they came out jetted the line then the next day ran a camera to pin point where the roots were. They used a special cutting tool and cut out the roots and made sure the line was clear. They told me to use copper sulfate in the pipes a couple times a year to kill any roots that might get back in. Total charge $500
I cannot help myself but think Mowery was trying to get me to spend the most money possible for something that didn't have to be done right away. I can't imagine how many people have been taken advantage.
When in doubt, get a second opinion
Therese C.I called Mowery for an outside Spicket that I thought was leaking. Jeremy looked at and could not find anything wrong. I was just talking to him and told him my husband had just passed away and how I dread getting under the house to shutoff the battery backup of my sump pump. He said I can probably put it under your kitchen sink if the wires are long enough. I was so excited they were long enough and he did a great job. Awesome customer service.
They will do unnecassary repairs or tell you your system needs replaced. They are highly unethical in thier business practices. I was a faithful customer for 12 years (9 years of which was before the current owner bought it) but the owner for the roughly 10 years has made it a a truly fraudulent company. They did a repair i felt was overprice and i checked with Chip the owner and another company and they both said while the part was cheap it took several man hours to properly install it, This was due to re balancing the air flow in the system. Ok I now understand the 6 to 8 hours of labor they are saying as it requires 2 guys 3 to 4 hours to complete. Day of install 1 guy shows up slaps on the part in and out in less than 30 Minutes. No air balancing or anything I called and ask what happened and was told he must have gotten it done fast. I then requested a refund for the extra labor charge and was told they could not do that as its based on an average time to install. My point is it was not installed properly as per what I was told By Chip the owner and another company. I would be very worried if you have them out. If they tell you you need a new system as the told my neighbor I would get a second opinion. They called for a second opinion from a competitor and a $175 repair later their system is still working great 3 years later. Sure beat the $6,000 quote from Mowey. I hear more and more horror stories and feel people should know and be advised.
We used them to replace our main sewer line.
Reasons we chose them:
1) Local business
2) Timely estimate
3) Competitive Estimate
4) They gave us a decent timeline
5) Professional presence when on site before job started.
Reasons we will NEVER use them again:
1) Didn't get started on time and then ran weeks over schedule.
2) Ran into an ""unforeseen"" issue (the shed was there the whole time, not sure how it surprised them) that caused them to almost double the estimate (or they could have just filled it in and left it disconnected).
3) Left a sink hole in my back yard and pulled an old gas line out of my foundation wall that caused significant basement flooding. It took them weeks to get back out to address both issues.
4) Before I even had a final signed invoice in-hand, they were hounding me to push financing through.
5) The crew ran over my garden and destroyed multiple small trees while leaving ruts all over my yard. They also shattered glass panes for my raised beds and dragged glass shards all over my yard. When I asked them what they were going to do about it, they told me there's nothing that they can do.
Save yourself some frustration and go with some real pros anywhere else.
