Cheap prices and an affable owner - these are the reasons for the 2nd star. Results are slow, like you'd expect with a low price. But the quality and understanding of quality by the owner is below average. Very unclear with pricing and bid estimates. No formal receipts issued despite asking for these multiple times. Double charged me to patch holes involved in redoing some wiring when adding the stove and oven - appeared on a bill for installation, and again another bill as simply wall patching.
Brings in equally sub-par specialists. Granite counter installation was quick, but lots of patches chips noted. Carpenter recommended for cabinets was 80 yrs old and took a chunk out of my new granite edge with a hammer while trying to put a board on to cover a gap created by the contractor when he took a shortcut and left the old tile countertop on during the demolition portion. Contractor didn't communicate this ""plan,"" but he told the granite guys to lay the new countertop on top of the existing tile. Standard practice would be to strip back to cabinet bases and lay new plywood top if needed. I came home to find the countertop already in place with an extra 1.5 cm of height to the counter from the tile that shouldn't have been there. It is noticeable, especially when trying to use the stove. Even my mom commented the countertop was uncomfortably high for cooking. Would have been appropriate for him to run that by me before making that decision. Carpenter also did a horrendous job in routering and shaping the cabinet door edges. All uneven, not sanded, large gouges and defects. A hideous final product. Owner of this company, who recommended this man, did nothing to intervene, apologize, reimburse or assist in fixing this problem and he was made well aware. We went back and hand sanded as many of the imperfections away as we could, but a not too close inspection and the defects are still clear as day.
Also very poor design and esthetics understanding. Reportedly picked out a sink and faucet for the kitchen that he used to come to estimates. These were obviously the cheapest items as the ones I finally decided on (middle of the road with regards to cost and fanciness) were 2-3x more expensive. Should have had some insight based on remainder of the house and quality on the appliances and granite selected for the countertop. He also never showed pictures or provided names of these items so that I could look them up myself despite be asked for this information several times.
If I had to do it over again I would not use this company and opt for a better quality product with less headache, incompetence, and misinformation. I'm disappointed with many aspects of my new kitchen, all of which are directly related to poor communication and decision making by the owner of this company and his failure to inform and include me in the decision making.

We had Al bid on a project to install a side door in our garage. He was very friendly and came in at a good price. That's really were our satisfaction ended. He came out to install the door and when finished it looked really mediocre. There were big gaps between the wall and the door frame which he said would be ok and not to worry about. Much to our dismay, we took his advise despite being underwhelmed with the finished work. A few weeks later we had water leaking through the wall. He came back a few days later and added some concrete material to get the water to run away from the wall and put a little sealant around the door. It still didn't look great, but we hoped our water leaks would be fixed. Then winter began, and the door began leaking again. It was difficult to get him back out to the house and once here he refused to take responsibility for the problem. He blamed the patio, he blamed the previous construction, but failed to admit that we asked him to install a door and fix the leak and this did not happen. He did finally caulk the door frame (we had to ask him to do this??) and the base of the door and the wall. When he was done he simply drove away. Not a word to us about being done or the work he did. Final impressions... Poor quality work, poor customer service. Do yourself a favor and spend a little more to get it done right!

Al May and his team at Mountainview Construction were wonderful! We hired them to do a basement and kitchen remodel along with other odds and ends including floors and paint. We are thrilled with the way things turned out. Al had wonderful suggestions and recommendations and also listened to our concerns and requests. We needed to work within a budget and time frame and Mountainview was able to get the job done beautifully. We researched contractors in the area and found Mountainview to be honest, and fairly priced. We'd hire Al and Mountainview Construction for any further home remodeling needs.

Our kitchen remodel was my first experience with a remodeling project and I couldn't have chosen a better contractor. We have a very unusual home (log walls) and nothing in the house was square/straight. Al was very creative in finding solutions to ""problems"" and I could not be happier with the finished product. Everyone on the project was attentive to details. The project was finished on time and within our budget. I would definitely recommend this company.

Al May of Mountainview Construction is simply awesome. His prices are low, low low, the quality is good, he sticks to his bids, and he goes above and beyond. (He was installing new plumbing for us and discovered a problem with one of our heating ducts. He fixed it, and now it's way warmer upstairs!) Make sure you clearly communicate what you want, and he'll do it for you. We're very happy with our new bathroom, and we'll continue to use Al as we remodel the other rooms in our house.
