I didn't hire Mountain Range Plumbing but rather received a bid from them. According to their reviews here on YELP, they are apparently a very solid company. But I want to explain why I didn't hire them and what the larger problem is for consumers when working with plumbers, HVAC companies, and other home industry service providers.
A plumber named Josh arrived the day after I contacted Mountain Range Plumbing. He was polite and quickly diagnosed the issue - the estimate was free of charge - that we were having with a leak underneath our kitchen sink. He would need to replace the hot water valve and a little bit of pipe. He quoted me around $470 for the work. He said it would take 30-45 minutes to complete the job. That seemed really expensive to me. Probably more expensive than visiting an oncologist for an hour or consulting with a high priced attorney. I asked if he could work with me on the price a little. After confirming that I wasn't a veteran or a first responder, he said the price was firm. I said I'd have to think about it, and he left.
We then proceeded to contact a handyman that a relative used last summer. We had to wait four days for him to fit us into his schedule to come over but when he did, he quickly replaced not only the hot water valve but the cold water valve as well for... wait for it... $140. The work he did was excellent - no problems since - and he didn't charge us a friggin arm and a leg for it!
To Mountain Range Plumbing and all the other high priced plumbers, HVAC companies, and other home service industry outfits out there: Why do you charge so much? How can you justify $470 to replace a single valve that takes around 30 minutes to complete? It honestly feels a little predatory and even unethical to charge so much (it's not just MRP... it's a practice that seems to be endemic across the home services industry).
And just so you know, if your plumber had said, hey, we can come down to 300 or 350 to replace the valve, I would've been happy with that. And thus would've never known that I could get BOTH VALVES replaced for $140.
Mike T.Two guys, including the boss, came out as promised and cleared my drain line from the house to the sewer in the street. This was exactly what I needed done, and they did it. No complaints, except they seemed a little pricey.
Of course, plumbers are pricey and I really can't complain since they did the job as requested, so I'm not. Complaining, that is.
Confirmed appointment via text, on time, explained the estimate and did great work! They were so easy to work with, we will be using them again!
Rachel C.Great service. Easy to schedule my non-emergency issue and was made to feel like it was just as important.
Dexton was my plumber and did a fabulous job. He was conscientious and patient and explained a few things to me that I didn't even know to ask.
Mountain Range Plumbing will now be the plumber I call whenever I need these services! Great job and thank you!
We recently had a seven-trip ordeal with an appliance-repair company, so I was bracing myself impending grief. There was zero. I liked that he explained all the possible problems that could result from the repair and how he gave me a few great tips on how to avoid the problem from reoccurring. We are keeping their contact info for any future plumbing emergency.
Kerrie T.Our hot water wasn't coming out of the sink - not lukewarm, just not a single drop. The hot water valve wasn't producing anything when we disconnected hoses either. Today's high was 1 degree, so I looked for a top rated local plumber and we called here. Michael arrived in about an hour and quickly diagnosed the issue (frozen pipe). We are grateful for the timeliness and fast identification of the issue, since undoubtedly, it eventually would have burst. Price was fair too. Will use again when our water heater gets replaced. Highly recommend.
Christian was very personable and knowledgeable. I'll definitely be calling for any future plumbing needs.
Michael and his team are outstanding. We called with a plumbing problem they came right out to fix it. Came back few days later to make sure everything was fixed. They are very professional. I would Highly recommend them to help you with all your plumbing needs. Thank you for your help, Mountain Range Plumbing and for your excellent service.
I just had Mountain Range Plumbing come out to check some gas lines. They were awesome! On-time, professional, thorough and great to work with. I HIGHLY recommend them and would use them again in a heartbeat. Also, they are local
Darren K.We had a water line leak to one of the upstairs showers, it seeped through the ceiling sheetrock in our laundry room on main floor.
Michael-the owner at Mountain Range Plumbing LLC was on another job when I made my request for help, and was still the first to respond on Yelp. He made us a priority and was at our residence an 1 1/2 later starting his assessment, then reviewing it with me, and conducting the repair. He was very professional, and customer service focused...
Once the repair had been completed he even showed me the part/joint that was replaced and explained why he thought that elbow joint went bad so I understood it better. A++
When talking with him, I learned he's a Certified Master Plumber for 20+ years, a ""local small business"". Please note: I did my research prior to hiring anyone for this repair and the expected cost... He's not trying to rip people off, his quoted repair cost was well under the average cost per (2) different websites I checked with. A++++++
I have a some experience in finishing homes in the past, and his quality of work is definitely among the best. He seems like someone that feels quality of work is a must! *** That's hard to find nowadays!!!
I will/do ""strongly"" recommend Mountain Range Plumbing LLC services, and will definitely refer them to any of my friends and family member if they're ever in need of a great plumber.
Ty, Darren
