We’ve been assisting Flagstaff residents since 2003. Throughout this time, we’ve perfected our craft... our passion: plumbing. However, let me share a secret...
We weren’t always this skilled.
Initially, we conformed to the typical standards of plumbing. You know the type: show up “whenever”, track mud through your home, scatter some fittings, deliver an invoice and depart.
That was the expectation. Regrettably, this is still the reality for many in the industry. Then, a change occurred. Eight years ago, we discovered that plumbing isn’t just about pipes, pressure, and water... it’s about serving people.
That’s why we offer convenient appointment windows, straightforward costs and documented guarantees. When plumbing issues arise, it can ruin your day. We’re here to help you manage your tasks.
We strive to resolve plumbing problems and assist our customers. This is what sets us apart. You’ll find that we’re your partners in plumbing.
Marty came into this world equipped with a wrench and a hammer. He grew up in Tempe, AZ, on what was once his great-grandfather’s farm. He helped his father and extended family in building and plumbing houses in the region. At eight years old, his 3rd-grade teacher asked him to give his class a tour of a home he was helping to build nearby as a field trip. Remarkably, he explained where all the pipes went and how they connected.
During his college years, Marty met Annette, a charming dental assistant from the area and they settled in Flagstaff. By the time Marty completed his degree, he and Annette had grown so fond of Flagstaff that they couldn’t imagine leaving. After working with a few local companies, Marty obtained his Plumbing Contractor’s License in 2003 and founded Mortensen Custom Plumbing.

I have used Mortensen on two different occasions. In both cases there was good contact with their office. Marty called when he was on his way and both times arrived within the appointment window. With both repairs Marty gave me 3 options on how extensive work I wanted done and the cost involved with each. There was no pressure to go with the most expensive one. They are also very good on follow-up to make sure you are happy with the work done. They are my go to plumbers in Flagstaff.

Very Fast service, all work done the next day in a timely manner and he double checked his work before leaving. Friendly and he has another satisfied customer.

When I came home from work I noticed that a pipe leading from the water heater into my house had sprung a good leak. I had to shut the water off to the house to get it to stop. I called Mortensen plumbing that evening and they sent someone out to fix it the first thing the next morning. Excellent service! I thought we would have been without water a lot longer. They even did a follow-up phone call and thank you card for using them. Nice touch. Would definitely recommend.

Mortensen installed a new hot water heater a little less than a year ago. I called when a leak developed at the top of the washer at the cold water shut off. Marty came right out, and although it was unclear whether or not the shut off valve had been replaced when the heater was installed, he spent a good deal of time replacing the valve and the pipes leading to the tank. He also crawled up on the roof to check the carbon monoxide removal system. This was all free. As far as the warranty follow-up goes, Mortensen does a really good job.

Marty Mortensen, the owner, contacted me and came out to see the what work was done. He sympathized with my complaint and give me gift cards for future work. As I said in my original post, the owner was very responsive and now I can say he also responds to less than stellar reviews on Yelp. Thanks again, Marty.

Overall, I had a very good experience with Mortensen. Chad, who worked on my project, was very professional--he showed up on time, was exceptionally courteous, and got the work done quickly. He was upfront about the charges and there was very good communication with the whole team. We have had no other issues with the repair and I also appreciated the follow up afterward to make sure everything was okay. I will concur with other reviewers, however, that this is NOT inexpensive. Yes, this is the most money I've ever spent on a plumbing repair. On the balance, however, it was worth the extra money to me to 1) not have to do it myself, or 2) wait around all day for someone to show up, like I have in the past, and have to supervise every minute of their work. I'm willing to pay more for the piece of mind that the job is getting done right the first time.

I am sad to say we did not have a positive experience with Mortensen Plumbing. Two items really ruined the experience. First, the plumber showed up three hours later than his scheduled appointment. Second, when they provided us a quote to replace our 50gal water heater the price was $3,821. Really, who pays $3,821 to have a water heater installed. I have replaced a lot of water heaters in my day and they do not cost that much. In fact the one they recommended is at Home Depot and we can get the water heater and installation for a total of $1,100.
I was in Phoenix and my wife was taking care of this. It really does feel like they were trying to take advantage of her. Bad decision! She is fully aware of the cost of construction items and their related installation services.
I would not recommend Mortensen plumbing under any circumstance. They should be ashamed of themselves for this sort of practice.

I agree that this team is fast and courteous. However my experience was that the price they quoted was easily 3 times other folks. When I brought this to their attention they simply stated that it was because of their high quality work. I found other very high quality plumbers who accomplished the work at a far more reasonable price. I simply cannot recommend them.

After I posted this not so happy review, they called me to see if we could settle the matter. The gen'l manager came over to look at the sink/drain, and he returned the next week and repaired it properly. He noted the original drain had been installed incorrectly.
I am grateful for the repair, and they didnt' charge me. However, they did not help me until after I made this unhappy customer posting. They were not interested in helping when I phoned and asked to talk about my plumbing problem.
Ah, well. They have a fabulous general manager.

We have always been happy with the fast and courteous service by Mortensen.
They have done repairs and installations in our home and have always done a thorough and professional job. In one case where there was a problem, they followed up quickly and made a corrective repair at no additional charge. Erin is always prompt and friendly with a follow up phone call to be sure that all the work is satisfactory. We purchased a maintenance plan with them and they initiate regular visits to test our plumbing and to flush out the water heaters. Yes, it was a big expense but we believe the quality of their work and their responsiveness is worth it. We would certainly recommend them to others.
