We had the same experience as Richard O and Elizabeth O. We had some great experiences with Larry and John and then they suddenly ""ghosted"" us, not returning calls or emails in the middle of a job. We had a trench dug for a new gas line, as they recommended, and they were supposed to come back to install the line but we never heard from them again. It's unbelievable to me that this company can survive being so flaky and disloyal to longtime customers.

My hot water boiler that feeds my heat, showers, everything broke the DAY BEFORE thanksgiving, not a great situation with folks coming over. Left Larry a message, he got right back to me. Later that night, he came by, troubleshot the problem and got it fixed. Managed to save me some heating costs as well in the long run with some advice and a new smart sensor. Will definitely rely on Montano plumbing in the future, nice crew, fast response.

While Larry and his crew are quite competent, I cannot recommend them for the private homeowner. The company has contracts with UCSC and work with several local contractors to whom he gives his attention. And, this is understandable. If you are just a homeowner you will probably run into the same problems Yelp reviewer Elisabeth O. in Burlingame did, and I did. Emails and phone calls not responded to. I must have wasted several hours leaving 12+ phone messages and e-mails trying to get some maintenance of the installation that Montano did in our new home. He plumbed our entire new home. But, at this point, he has abandoned us for his more important clients. It is just too frustrating dealing with such a company, so I have had to look elsewhere for my plumbing needs.

I needed to get some gas lines hooked up to my house from a new PG&E meter. Larry had the lowest quote and the best service. He was always on time, very clear with the work plan, including making a little picture to show where the lines would be installed. When PG&E screwed up, some of his work had to be redone, and he sent over a team and got everything done. I thought he would charge me for his extra time, since it wasn't his fault for the issue with PG&E, but since it was part of his orignial quote, he didn't charge me. He's my new go-to plumber!

Montano Plumbing was recommended to me by someone I trust, and initially we had a good experience. On two occasions, Larry -- and then John -- came promptly and fixed the issue we were having. We paid our bills promptly, too. Then they were supposed to get back to me with a proposal for a bigger job. I left 5 voicemail messages for Larry over the course of a few weeks, left a message with an actual person as well, and sent at least four follow-up emails. Not a single message was returned. I have never had this experience -- where a service person went from being super responsive to completely unresponsive -- but it is an impossible situation, obviously.

I have used Montano plumbing a number of times over the last 10 years and all has been good. I have a pot filler that leaks and called them to fix it. When they came out it was decided that it needed new valves. The valves had to be ordered from Franke since they are no longer sold in California. I had the original paperwork from 2003 and ordered the parts.
Parts came in quickly but as it turns out they were wrong. Plumber had to make a trip here to determine that. Called Franke and they were sorry they had sent the wrong parts and apologized and sent the correct ones.

Have called Montano a number of times, either with no answer or the scheduler saying that Larry Montano would have to call me back , not happening. My guess is that the scheduler has not told Montano because they came out twice. However, not my fault about the parts and what a shame to ruin a business relationship by the woman on the phone making that decision.

WOW, superstars, LARRY and JOHN are on it, fixed a prob with our hydronic hot water tank that no one else could identify. Not only that, but during the freeze when no one would respond, LARRY was here, identified the problem AND got it covered under warranty, have never in my 35 years in Santa Cruz county had such phenomenal service, recommend LARRY MONTANO as the go to guy for advance plumbing issues as well as standard plumbing problems.

I will not post any further review UNTIL I give Larry one more try. I have used Larry over the past 20+ years and have in the past always received the most expert, reasonably priced service. BUT I recently contacted Larry for a ""re=model"" on a section of my home. He even came out and we discussed the job. Told him I was readyto go. Larry made several promises to get back to me and/or to schedule a start date. THEN all of a sudden it is as if he has disappreaed from the face of the earth. I have left more messages than I can remember. ALL OF THEM IGNORED. So at this point I agree with the other poster. Larry's sense of customer loyalty and customer service has simply disapprered.

Montano has done multiple jobs at my house. The are outstanding. That one star review is BS. Larry and the few guys that work there are ALL first rate plumbers. Honest, professional, and I would recommend them to any of my friends/neighbors.
