Nixon Duran and Luis Munoz did an excellent job installing an RO system for me. Well worth the value.

Tankless water heater would start hot then go cold, this company allegedly certified by the manufacturer to service and repair... they were clueless and they sabotaged the unit by unplugging a temp sensor and connecting it so that it looked plugged in but not making contact they also messed with the gas valve. I did the troubleshooting myself found the above problems plus a stuck check valve and improperly crimped wires to another temp sensor. I adjusted the gas valve myself per the manual, step by step with a manometer. Working correctly ever since.

Jeremy came out to give an estimate on a heat pump. He arrived on time, made clear what I wanted done before starting, and reviewed my current setup. He then took the time to review what he found and recommended. He never tried to pressure or up-sell me and left me with a clear understanding what my options were before going with a heat pump. I would suggest Monkey Wrench again for all HVAC-related questions, particularly the crew that used to be with La Canada Air and are now at Monkey Wrench.

I originally called Monkey Wrench to descale my 7-year-old tankless water heater. The technician came to the house and explained his plan. It sounded perfect, and I agreed that his goal to do a full water system diagnosis should precede any descaling he might do. After running many tests around the house, he concluded that, since the tankless water heater had never been serviced, the descaling might actually do some harm. He gave a great analogy to cleaning the arteries of a person who has calcification build-up. He explained the risk of a subsequent small leak in the copper pipes - whether it be an hour, a day, or a month from now. After some discussion, we agreed that it would be best not to do the service right now. I've never seen a service technician not recommend a service and downsell me as to what I might need. I would definitely call Monkey Wrench again for future needs.

Never again. I made the mistake of calling a ""big company"" plumber (Monkey Wrench) when I should have, honestly, known better. They came out to service my Water Heater. The guy that showed up and talked a great game...Told me it needs a new major part and also tried to upsell me thousands of dollars for things I didn't need including the option of ""upgrading"" my unit at the low cost of $10-12K. Once I declined all of the unnecessary things, they tried to charge me $850 for labor on a part that was under warranty (free) that takes about 60-90 minutes to replace. Got another plumber in who said it doesn't need a new part, it just needed the vent cleaned out and a standard cleaning. Will add a part on that costs $140 - the same part Monkey Wrench tried to sell me for $2500. I will never call them again.

Reuben came to find the cause of the leak and give me an estimate of cost
for repairs. For about 1 year, about 5 plumbers came prior to Reuben. All
of them failed to diagnose the leak. I was very happy today, because I agree
that the leak diagnosed by Reuber was from the sink in the bathroom and
not from the bathtub as presumed previously until today. Now I understand
the problem and have a plan to solve this issue, I am very relieved.

Be wary of using these guys. After two years' worth of experience with them, I finally realized they are built to upsell, and often towards services that aren't necessary.

The most recent case was calling them to come in to look at our shower that had inconsistent water pressure. The tech came in and didn't even bother opening up the shower handle trim to take a look inside. Instead, he immediately claimed that we'd need to open up the wall and replace the entire shower valve. But don't worry, he said, he's one of the few plumbers in the state who can also do dry wall, so he'll patch up that hole for us too. The estimate was nearly $3k for that.

Then he went on to pitch the Flow-Tech descaling system (Google it and try to find independent reviews that confidently says it actually works). That'd be another several thousand dollars. So basically, for the visit to look at my shower, I was getting quoted for a job costing almost $7k.

These sales pitches happened during the visits they made to do annual maintenance on my tankless. It happened when they came to clear a clog in our kitchen sink. The nice thing about this company is they put everything into email so it was easy for me to dig through all of the estimates they provided -- the total proposed charges would've been enough for me to do a nice renovation of a large bathroom!

Thankfully I didn't fall for those tricks in the past, and I was finally able to see clearly this time around. By the way, that issue with the shower water pressure? Another plumber came, quickly identified it was an issue with the pressure balancing valve, found the part nearby and everything was fixed and in good working order the next day. At 1/7 of the cost that Monkey Wrench proposed.

Do yourself a favor -- go ask your neighbors for recommendations. Don't go with these companies that spend a ton marketing themselves. They need to recover those costs somehow, and unfortunately, it'll likely cost you in unnecessary 'repairs.'
