As a long-standing member and current Board of Directors member of the Loudoun County Chamber of Commerce, I advocate for local businesses. Having served as Past President of the Ashburn Rotary Club, I engage in community service through civic and charitable projects. My service as a combat veteran in Bosnia and Iraq fills me with pride, and I am honored to belong to my local VFW. I recently had an issue with my toilet in my condo, leaking so much water that it leaked into the condo below, damaging their ceiling. Modern Mechanical sent a plumber immediately, which made me very happy (as I wasn't a previous customer). The plumber, Leo was very professional, and honest . . . explaining to me exactly what he thought the cause could be and what he'd have to do to stop the leaking. Turns out that it was not very serious, and was a somewhat ""easy and inexpensive"" fix. I feel that Leo was very honest. and would gladly due business with Modern Mechanical again based on my interactions with Leo. You all have a great employee with Leo. I also appreciated that they could call me ahead to meet them there so I did not have to miss a ""4 hour window"" from work.

Prior to putting in a new system in my condo, I'd had good luck with MM. A couple of the guys who'd serviced my old equipment (twice a year) were really good and I was pleased. Last winter I was told I needed a new unit. After the shock of discovering my old system was failing (it was 10 years old), I was told how much my new machine would be ($5,400). My neighbor ironically needed a new system - the price she paid was substantially lower than what MM quoted me, but I thought I was getting great, professional service, so I opted to have the new equipment installed. The guys who placed the unit were nice guys but they couldn't wait to go to lunch that day. On the way out, one of them handed me a 'how to program your unit' card and in as much as I was surprised about that, it wasn't nearly as bad as when I looked at the outcome. Honestly, it looked like they'd popped in a somewhat new piece of equipment but all the foil stuff that surrounds it and padding, was coming apart and just looked terrible. Joey fixed it for me several days later but I was horrified initially. I took photo's. But that's not it......I chose to sell my place this Spring. Couldn't believe it when the home inspection report said my HVAC needed service! That was one of my big selling points and it needed looking at? I was on holiday when the engineer came by to fix it. When I came back, we'd had a warm spell so I didn't notice he hadn't plugged the HVAC unit back in! How would I know you can actually unplug a unit? It turned cold and I was constantly trying to turn on the system. I called MM and they came out and told me right then and there that the equipment hadn't been turned on. Oh and I forgot to mention that the person who came by that day, in as much as he was polite, sat in his van on a phone call for 20 mins before he came up to my condo. I'd had enough. I was promised free service for one year but I think I'm better off going back to M E Flow. Not to be negative, and I do think I had a bout of bad luck, but service was sub par and I won't recommend. Sorry.

Modern mechanical is great at advertising themselves for sure. I went with them due to the quick professional response time and great prices. I had a new unit installed and still have nothing but problems. Lucky it was under warranty the first year. They had to come out at least half a dozen times within 6 months and had to rebuild the unit. I just had another major component need replacing and now the warranty is expired. Forget trying to call a manager, their customer service matches their product.
I must say their technicians are top notch. Pay a little more, but go with another company. Sadly I recommended them to a friend too.

This is an update review. I changed my rating from 1 star to 4 - the co-owner of the company provided a refund which we had mutually agreed upon....and although that does not eliminate the unfortunate incident which my family endured - it does show that the owners themselves do care about the service they provide and they stand behind their work. I believe what happened is that the Company management (one level below owners) were not empowered to make certain decisions, and when I spoke to the co-owner about this he said he was going to implement a policy to allow them to act on the owners behalf on situations like I encountered. I believe this will go a long way to getting their company an outstanding reputation.

They'll have another opportunity to show their professionalism in the spring when they perform the spring A/C checkup. I'll post another review then.

It is not often you receive tremendous customer service anymore. Modern Mechanical delivers on customer service in spades. Their equipment is first rate, prices are extremely competitive and their service is top notch. No reason to look elsewhere.

To follow up, after Modern Mechanical could not get the job done in a timely manner, My home warranty company assigned me to another company. This company was able to complete the job in less than 24 hours. I was told by Modern Mechanical that the hold up was my home warranty company...apparently not.

Modern mechanical have responded to a blocked sewer pipe and to a leaking hot water tank. They were sent by our home warranty company which is not always known for choosing the best people. In both instances I could not have been more happy; their workers were experienced, communicated well, and discussed the actions they were taking. The quality of the plumbing installation work they did was excellent, neat and well executed. When they installed the heating tank they made up for numerous mistakes made by the previous company which had taken shortcuts and produced generally shoddy work.

I recommend them highly for plumbing.

On another occasion they responded to HVAC system problems. Once again their work was off the first order, problems were fixed and once again they remedied shortcuts and shoddy work performed by previous service contractors.

In summary I could not give them a higher recommendation.

My water heater died on the evening of Monday Dec 15. My warranty company called one place - they couldn't even come out for a diagnosis until that Friday!! Modern Mech was next on the list. Leo came out Tuesday afternoon - and called first so I could remain at work for most of the day - and diagnosed the problem. A computer sensor. He called a couple of places to order it, got it FedEx'd on Wednesday (I gladly paid the $100 shipping fee) and installed it on Thursday afternoon.

He was professional, friendly, and explained my odd system to me. I live in a condo so my gas heat & hot water are connected. No hot water equals no heat! And now I know why.

Taylor (office assistant) was also helpful in relaying all the delivery information and re-scheduling, etc. ... I would definitely use them again!!

Had a brand new Lennox system installed in Sep 2014. Due to the AC is totally broken, requested the team to come on Saturday and perform the installation ASAP so that the family can survive the hot weekend.

Installation service pro/cons
- Pro: Modern Mechanical is very supportive for customer and they do come in on Sat on time to perform the full perfect installation and enable the new AC system to work.
- Cons: Technicians are rushing home after installation and did not do a thorough clean up of the area, the bulk trash is cleaned up, but still leaving small pieces of nails, old metal pipe parts and other small metal debris laying around. I have to restrict any kids or roommate from going to the utilities room and spend the night cleaning them up, vacuum up all the dangerous small metal debris away.
- With the full expensive installation package price that I am paying for the, I did the get perfect installation but I expect more on the post installation clean up.

Follow up service pro/cons
- Cons: In the original contract it was stated the team is going to fix the AC system broken dampers all together during the installation process, but due to Sat installation schedule is too heavy, they promise to arrange another timing next week to finish off the repair. Which I am totally ok with this arrangement as they promised to follow up.
- However, waited full 1 week, never heard from the team and have to initiate to call them back to check on the unfinished job as agreed and stated in the contract. Still waiting for their reply.
- I hope the communication is more effective between the installation team and the service department, if you have to wait for the customer to call back and follow up on the unfinished job, that is not an A class service, as it is the customer who do the follow up now, not the service department.

Financing service pro/cons
- Cons: Already paid upfront $700 to Modern Mechanical on the installation service, and finance the remaining balance. However, when I received the bank bill statement, they are still charging me the full amount!
- It seems like the $700 I have paid to Modern Mechanical upfront is magically disappear.
- Called the bank they said the full amount is the information that they received, I must pay the full package loan amount as stated on the bill, as this full amount is what is registered in the bank.
- The bank requested me to work with Modern Mechanical to see what is the problem and error, and how could this $700 upfront payment was not registered in the bank financing department.
- Still waiting for Modern mechanical feedback on this disappointing finance mishap.

The whole experience is not as good as I wish it to be, although the product is fantastic and i do appreciate the friendly and experienced technicians for sacrifying their Sat to help on the installation (big thank! family survive the weekend with new AC), but rushing off work without proper clean up, this aspect can be further improved. Overall I am still very happy with the technician team, they are really helpful and knowledgable, and the installation is very professional. Really disapointing part is the financing mishap, which I can not understand where my hard earn $700 upfront payment to Modern Mechanical has gone? I hope they will refund this full portion to me ASAP as the bank insist on charging me the full amount, since the bank know nothing about the upfront down payment to Modern Mechanical.
