Do not use this plumber, they are dishonest. I was told that the plumber would provide an estimate immediately upon evaluating the work to be done. The plumber that arrived then told me that he could not give me an estimate immediately but would get me an estimate no later than the next morning. I had not heard anything by the next afternoon, so I called to check and was told that they would not be taking the job at all. I will never call this plumber for anything ever again. And neither should you.
Absolutely disgusting.
Fast turnaround visit cost $69 to get them to leave.
For my minor kitchen sink repair and connecting new dishwasher with all parts provided, their cost was over $1,700.
I paid the go away fee of $69.
When I had the job done by a reliable service company the final charge was $150.
Jerry K.I had a tenant get home from work at midnight to no hot water. There had been a strong storm that day and I thought maybe the pilot got blown out by a down draft or something storm related. I went over and tried to relight it. It would burn for a few seconds before going back out. The ""youtube diagnosis"" for this issue is its most likely a bad thermocouple. This is a simple and cheap ($7) part. I told her I'd be back in the morning with a new one and get it installed.
I returned the next day and put the new part on, but it still did not work. After checking and double checking my work, I moved on to accepting the thermocouple must not have been the issue. The next item in line would be the gas control valve on the front of the heater. This is a $60 part that I could also change myself in about a half an hour. However, the last time I took the burner apart to double check the thermocouple, I bent and broke the pilot light tube. This is a simple little part, but I didn't have time to run across town for the part before work. So I started calling plumbers to just get it fixed and be done with it.
I figured I was now going to need two parts totaling about $80-100 plus whatever the plumber would charge for labor. I knew realistically I'd be paying close to $200, if not more, but my renter needed hot water so I wanted it done.
I called several places just off a quick google search and everyone was booked up besides an after hours emergency call that would require an almost $300 show up charge. Then I got to Mike Williams. They said they would have to charge the emergency charge to make it the same day, but had a slot open first thing in the morning. I accepted the morning slot. I made sure to explain what I had diagnosed to be wrong and that it was less than $100 in parts. The call taker told me the plumber would be able to verify the issue in the morning and have an exact price for the repair before doing the work.
The next morning I got a call that he would be there at 9:00 a.m. By approximately 9:20 a.m., I got a second call by the plumber that he had diagnosed the problem and needed the go ahead to fix it. He said the gas valve was bad, which is what I had told them I thought it was the night before. I asked the cost to fix it. He told me he would recommend I have the entire water heater replaced, because it was ten years old. It is true that I could buy a new water heater from Menards for around $385, but then I would also be paying several hours of labor, and I called him to fix a $60 part that should take only several minutes for a plumber. He then told me the cost for him to obtain and install a new water heater if I chose that route: $2152.00. Which was for a water heater with a 1 year warranty. He quoted a 6 year warranty water heater, which would be on par with what I had already, at $2641.00. The 6 year 40 gallon water heaters are less than $400 total, but somehow would drive the Mike Williams price up by $500 over a cheaper water heater. This didn't matter because I'd never pay them even the lower amount he quoted for a simple water heater job. The water heater is even in a convenient spot right inside the back door with a driveway. No basement, no stairs, no tight spaces.
I told him I just wanted him to fix what I asked him to fix. He said the price to do that would be...$1156.00. I said $11.56? He said, No, $1156.00. This is to put on a $60 part that requires disconnecting 4 nuts, and a push connect wire. His labor hours would be 2 at most if he rounds up. So does he make over $500/hr? I asked him how he could justify that price for the work he was going to do. He could and would only state their company uses Flat Rate Pricing. He could give me no other explanation or reasoning for it except to repeat that each time. So companies use flat rate pricing when they do lots of jobs with lots of different skill set employees and need a more steamlined way to calculate invoicing. So they make a book and decide what each job should take based on parts and labor time. You basically get an average cost of the job at a flat rate instead of saying it took me using this part and this many hours so your cost is this. They just use a formula up front. They must have calculated their formulas on the absolute worst scenarios for the flat rate price they came up with.
I'm running out of space for my review so I'll wrap it up. I told them no way. I called a friend (who is an expert) and he left work to come take a look. The broken part was actually a safety switch in the heater that cuts off air if it trips so the pilot burns out. Not the part Mike Williams said it was. (Also MW didn't notice the pilot tube I broke which should have been obvious) I decided to cut my losses, bought a new water heater, and installed it myself in 3 hours. Total cost $400.
Mike Williams will take advantage of you if you don't question them.
There is no need to even consider this company. They are completely dishonest and use predatory practices on those who are not knowledgeable or just want to get their ac/furnace fixed asap.
A friend of mine had them install a new ac and furnace a few years ago and they've needed repairs a dozen times since it was installed. I told them I'd be there when Mike Williams came and soon realized that they were lying through their teeth. They said the problem was a leak, that new refrigerant was needed, and that they needed to clean the outside unit. First of all, none of those issues were actually the problem. The blower motor was not working and the capacitor and contactor had gone bad... none of which two different Mike Williams service people reported.
They quoted prices that were about $200-$500 higher than 5 different companies I called for services that weren't even necessary to fix the actual issues.
Do your research before saying yes to anything. A 410A refrigerant fill is about $40-$50 per pound and ac units would need to refill somewhere between 3-7 pounds, which means around $315 for a fill even on the high end. Mike Williams quoted $825 for the fill. Other companies quoted cleaning costs to be $20-$100 depending on severity. Mike Williams quoted $300. And of course, they wanted us to sign a contract for a ""monthly membership"" that would lower the price (and is still higher than competitors by $150-$400)... which others have said is difficult to get out of.
All you have to do is search here on Yelp or Google and you will find a ton of other places that actually have a reputation for honest work. I hope that this place doesn't find any more people to prey on.
Jim P.I'm sorry to read the negative reviews. My experience with Mike Williams has been uniformly good. I've been with them for about a year. They've installed a sump pump and a wall heating and cooling unit and done routine maintenance I've been quite happy with.
Please be aware!! Mike William has thieves. Approximately $20,000 of my jewelry are missing, and their employees were the only people who were in and out of my house.
My heater broke earlier this year. One of their employees from Mike Williams came to my house to take a look and gave me a quote. Because my husband and I have to work, it was very difficult to coordinate the date to replace the heater. The person who gave me the quote recommended that we still can go to work. We just need to open the door for them in the morning, and they can call us to come back to lock the house once the job is completed. This person ensured me that all of their employees pass the background checks, and they are a safe, reputable company, and I can totally trust them to do the job.
My heating unit is in the basement, and I keep all my jewelry and important documents in the basement. However, none of my jewelry was exposed, they were hidden away in a closet, and I have my jewelry separated in several bags inside a big backpack.
They really are professional thieves. They did not steal the entire backpack; they took one of the bags inside the backpack that contained heirloom pieces and several 24 karat gold chains plus a very substantial piece of solid 24 karat gold heart-shape pendant. Because only one bag inside my backpack was stolen, I did not realize the bag was missing until 2 months later when I want to wear that 24-karat gold neckless with pendant for a trip to Los Angles.
Mike William was extremely unhelpful and even outright hostile when I contacted them regarding the missing jewelry. With my first call, I wanted to speak to the manager of Springfield or the owner of the company, but the phone receptionist, Emily, would not transfer the call. Emily told me that someone would call me later. I waited the whole day, and on one had contacted me, so I called the next day. Well, it was Emily again, and her attitude has changed. She was impatient and hostile on the phone with me. When I asked her again to transfer my call to the manager, she sent me to a voicemail of a customer representative named Josh. I left a voice message, but still, no one from Mike Williams has contacted me. This ""customer representative"" does not provide customer protection nor a timely solution to problems.
I feel very helplessness. I probably will not get my stolen jewelry back at this point. The reason for this posting is that I don't want this happened to anyone else. Mike Williams should know how many workers were in my house to fix the heating unit. It is not difficult to do an internal investigation and find out who took the jewelry because the person or persons would have a sudden increase in cash flow and probably behavioral changes. It is obvious that Mike Williams does not value their customers. Please be careful when hiring Mike William for any services. Their guarantees of safety mean NOTHING!!

Our furnace went out in this cold and we called Mike Williams because they were the only people that could come out. They put a new fix in and about 5 minutes later before the guy even left the furnace gave out again. Charged us over $600. He told us that what actually needed to be fixed was going to cost about $700-$800 and it would be better to just get a new furnace. A couple hours later another man came out to give us a quote and said on the low end it would be $5,000-$7,000. NO WAY....we have a small house. We called our regular guy who came in the next day and immediately found the real problem and fixed it and only charged us $400. So I basically wasted over $600 for them to not fix the problem and have them try and sell me something I didn't need. NO WAY will I ever use them again. I have heard horror stories from so many people now about them. They are a terrible company who try and scam people already in a bad situation.
Malikah A.We called Mike Williams for a drain problem that they claimed to have fixed once before. The price just to come out was between $189-$229. In addition to this quote they also quoted us no less than $400 to clear the drain. Although it was a huge inconvenience to have to deal with this over a holiday weekend we DID NOT go with Mike Williams. The rates are not justified based on the quality of their work.
This is a predatory and sloppy plumber. I called Mike Williams on an emergency kitchen sink leak as I did not think I could wait for my regular plumber to respond. They fixed the kitchen sink leak adequately. However, I had them check a dripping faucet in a bathroom as well, which should have been simple. But they left a mess there. They did not check their work and the faucet did not even flow straight afterwards. Worse, their work loosened a part under the sink so that it flooded underneath. Needless to say, I had my regular plumber fix that, as I did not want Mike Williams back. They also tried to talk me into doing additional work on a toilet, which was never a concern. The worst thing was their rip off monthly service charge which they extract instead of just having a fair one-time price. I have had to diligently check off the six months elapsing on my credit card before I could cancel the service. I am expecting a fight on that too. My advice to Mike Williams is to quit the predatory practices and clean up your act!
