In 1976, Mike's entrepreneurial drive led him to start his own business. He obtained a contractor's license, gathered tools, and hit the road in his truck. At the age of 19, he started his business from his parents' garage.

I called this company for an estimate on putting in an earthquake shut off valve on my gas line. They refused to give an estimate without evaluating the plumbing. They said the $99 cost of the estimate would be applied to the cost of the instillation. They send out an electrician, he spends 20 min trying to sell me some maintenance plan, then pulls out the estimate book and reads off $1201 for the valve instillation and $108 for the permit. That is three times the quotes which other companies advertise on the internet.
When I asked why they could not have read the estimate over the phone, he would not answer the question.
I bought the valve myself for $126, got the permit on line for $56, watched how to do the install on U-Tube, and was done in 45 min. The inspector complimented to expertise of the plumber (I did not tell him it was me.)

I have nothing but positive things to say about this company. I called them around 8:30am on a Monday to take care of a clogged toilet in my doggy day care center. By 10am a technician was there who was polite, neat and yes, smelled good. He was not at all bothered by the dogs (I let them know we would need someone dog friendly) and even brought treats for them! Turns out the issue was so minor he didn't even charge for the service call and gave me his cell number to call in case it happened again. 5 stars!

I wish I had read these reviews before I called Mike Diamond yesterday. I have used them in the past and not had a problem until now but this time I do believe I was totally ripped off to the tune of $353.00. First of all they were supposed to be here in one hour and I was told they would call me 30 minutes before their arrival. That did not happen. I called after one hour and was told ""oh we're sorry but he was dispatched late and is stuck in traffic, will be there in 20 minutes"". Forty five minutes later he arrived, looked at my problem which was water backing up in my shower and told me he might not be able to fix it and would have to hydro-jet it. Well......guess what folks???? Hydro-jet it was. I won't go into all the ""gory"" details but 4 hours later (partly because he moved like a snail) the problem was fixed. My house was built in the 50's and has the original plumbing and I realize I have been lucky so far but Hydro-Jet? really?? I believe a larger snake than the one he used was all that was needed because after the Hydro-jetting, guess what again? A larger snake is what he used. The tardiness, the attitude and way the job was handled have totally turned me off to Mike Diamond Plumbing. The job does have a one year warranty and I will call them for any related issues but would not ever recommend them to anyone or use them for any other reason again.

Like bait and switch from the ""smell good plumbers?"" then call Mike Diamond, my toilet still clogs up. But they offered me a 1500.00 job!

DON'T LET MIKE DIAMOND-- PRICE GOUGING PREDITORS, IN YOUR HOME!!!
I made the mistake of trusting Mike Diamond to charge a fair rate for repairing a broken pipe under the slab of my house. The job appeared, and was explained to be, a big one. -Jack hammering my dining room floor, breaking thought the concrete slab, digging down 18 inches and replacing a three foot span of pipe.
Not knowing anything about plumbing, and trusting the Mike Diamond brand, I agreed to pay $6,986 for the job. The next day I priced the job with five other plumbers in Orange county. NOT ONE quoted a job over $1,800! A city official I later complained to confirmed I could have had my entire house re-piped for less than that. Mike Diamond and George Brazil (they are the SAME company) are well known in the industry for their outrageous rate structure.
After I made a complaint with the Company, a supervisor came to the house to discuss the issue. The woman I initially spoke to assured me that Mike Diamond plumbers follow a predetermined rate structure quoted in ""the book"" and I could see it if I wanted. I told her that the fact gouging rates are quoted in a book does not make it acceptable. The guy that later came over to speak to me listed all of the benefits of Mike Diamond (they ""stand by their work and do the best job""). I explained I wouldn't mind spending more to have their expertise, but how much more should one expect to pay? Double? Triple? Quadruple the next highest rate in the industry? I was cut short with the comment they rarely get complaints about the their rates and they have a wait list of customers waiting to see them every day.
Mike Diamond exploits the trust generated by their advertising and suckering dopes like me that don't get other estimates and know anything about plumbing.
I DID eventually see ""the book"". Mike Diamond is brutally honest. They let me review their approved rates for different jobs. The purchase and installation of a Kohler toilet (which should at most cost $300 or $400-- and that's high!) is quoted in ""the book"" in a range from from OVER $1,800 to $2500, depending on the model!
These crooks got over $7,000 out of me (I didn't mention the $167 that Mike Diamond charged for the job certification from the city which I could have done myself for $35 and one phone call!). -But they DID give me a $10 discount for my next job.
I will do everything in my power to alert friends and neighbors that Mike Diamond preys on people that don't know better and don't get other estimates. Mike Diamond will financially drain you and laugh all the way to the bank. I will be paying for this mistake for years to come. I joined this site to post this warning, and I will join others. This weekend I'm printing fliers and distributing them in my neighborhood. Though their pricing is criminal, they are probably operating on the legal side of the law, I will check to see if I can register a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.
PLEASE warn everyone you know to stay away from these thieves. At the very least, get the quote and make at least ONE call to another plumbing company. -You will find that you were on the verge of being taken big time.
One last sad comment about Mike Diamond. The people there I dealt with were very nice! And the work is probably good. But their business model is warped. -Find a sucker the believes the ads and RAPE their wallet with a smile and the claim to ""stand by our work"". I can only imagine that there may have been a good Company here had they not decided to short cut to pricing robbery.
Hide you checkbook, hide your wallet, and don't let Mike Diamond plumbing in your house-- or on your street!

DO NOT CALL! I signed up for Yelp just so that I can warn people from this place. They quote you a cheap price over the phone and give you a much higher price once they are at your house. I called because I had a problem with my toilet's filler valve. The tech quoted me a price of over $400 for the parts only. My toilet only cost me $89 mind you. Once I told the tech that I would look for different quotes, I was then charged $74.21 for his 5 minute visit. I checked online for how much the part really cost and it only cost $20! Please learn from my $74.21 down the drain and do not ever call these people. They are scam artists. Beware! I am currently looking into how I can report Mike Diamond Plumbing to the business bureau.

The smell good plumber? More like the ripoff plumber. Tried to charge $450 to replace a sink (that we already owned). Spent less than $100 with a local plumber for the same job.

Wow. This was a horrible experience. I wish we had looked at their yelp reviews first. We had a faucet that all of a sudden wouldn't shut off all the way. The guy came out the next afternoon. First of all, he was 35 minutes late. I had to leave work early and wait around for him, and by the way they say on their website that if they guy is not on time, it's free. I called to see where he was, and apparently they had called my husband and said is was more of a ""window"" of when he'd show up. Well then, don't put that on your website, because it's BS.
The guy got there and didn't even introduce himself. He looked at the sink, gave me an overview of the problem, and then went back out to his truck for about 10 minutes to write up the estimate. Turned out to be $400 -but wait- I got a magical 15% discount without even asking, lucky me! ...
OH, I also asked for a breakdown of the charges--labor, parts, etc. He said they don't do that. That is standard, you should ALWAYS get that or tell them to hit the road. I should have told him right then and there to get lost.
So I told him I thought that was too high. Come on. I went to talk to my neighbor, who agreed. We told the plumber that we were going to find a different guy for the job. He got very defensive, but wouldn't leave without collecting his $75 fee for showing up. Even though he was late.
I complained afterward and supposedly will have my $75 fee waived. If it appears on my statement, I'll dispute the charge and report them to the state board. I'm angry about someone so blatantly trying to rip me off and providing horrible service while asking how they can ""make me smile.""
Oh and that $400-- turns out it was just to replace a gasket in the faucet. Which technically, I should have been able to do myself. So, that is just SO obviously a rip off that it's just not even funny.

Here is what you can expect from Mike Diamond plumbing.
They will show up late- after you wait 2.5 hours , make up a silly excuse like saying there's no place to park, despite there being 4 guest parking spaces available.
The plumber will walk in, take one look at your kitchen sink, and then quote you a rate for over double what you were quoted on the phone -I was quoted a fixed rate of $99.00.
The plumber who came- with an I could care less attitude quoted me $209/ The ""Smell good Plumber"" I think not... think of Mike Diamond plumbing as the ""Something smells fishy plumber"".
This sort of bait and switch tactic is inexcusable. I promptly called Roto-Rooter, they had a man at my house one hour, and they fixed it for $79.
Forget Mike Diamond Plumbing, they are not worth your time. Wasted 1/2 of my day- incompetent dispatchers too- spelled my name wrong- did not give him contact info- incompetent, plain and simple.
Look at all of their reviews... AVOID AVOID AVOID!

I just called the 800 number and I'm not sure where they were dispatched from. Terrible! I'm a new home owner and am learning as I go. I had air-conditioning problems and called for an estimate. These guys are game players. It took over a week for an estimate which was not provided in writing and changed the more I complained. While waiting for the price, I called another company for a third opinion (please see my favorable review of ICY AIR-CON) and saved, ready for it, $5000! Yeah, the guy smelled just fine, but the company stinks.
